We just got a new washer/dryer combo and now have this empty space in the laundry room. What would you do with it? I’m thinking a small bench with shoe storage but don’t want it to just collect junk. We have 33 inches width and it’s right next to the garage door.
I’d put a table there for folding and sorting clothes with a space underneath for a laundry basket. Dirty clothes tend to accumulate on the floor of our laundry room during the week because there’s no place to put it in our laundry room (bedrooms are on a different level).

Do you have a separate coat closet / mud room and if so how good is the storage? I feel like that would be a good place to keep winter boots (so you can take them off immediately) and also hats, scarves, gloves, umbrellas...the kind of stuff you grab on your way out the door.
Hm. We have a utility sink around the corner in the garage and we have a huge countertop in the hallway I use for folding. We don’t have a mudroom but do have a coat closet/space for coats and we don’t have winter here. I like the idea of a mudroom ish type space. I might move our shoe may there and add a little bench. I think that being the depository instead of the bench by the front door.
Drying rack for things that can’t go in the dryer?
How do you like the washer/dryer combo? I had one in a previous apartment, and it could only take very small loads, and took forever to go through the drying cycle. I hope technology has improved!
One load takes a while because it’s both cycles. But it still takes longer than my old machines combined. The steam drying is weird. It initially still feels a little damp but as soon as you take it out it feels dry. It’s 4.3 cubic feet so it’s standard size.
Also I’ve read that it could be the drain that causes it to not dry as quickly and a pedestal can help. We ordered the pedestal but it was dented so they have to replace it so we don’t have it yet.
A full cycle takes 3ish hours. But I can start it before bed and it’s done in the morning. And saving a step definitely saves time.
I used the washer/dryer combo when I was overseas for work for a few months. The damp thing was weird. I would do a load overnight (took about 4.5 hours), lay out all the laundry all over the hotel room while I ate breakfast, and then put it away when I got home from work. I feel like if the ever really master this technology it could be amazing. Imagine having two of these puppies! (I'm on my 5th load right now and it's not even noon!)
So after using it all weekend and testing things out I think I overfilled the first couple of loads. If I filled it less it was truly dry after the cycle. So halfway full is perfect. 3/4 is too full for drying. I’ve decided that I do like it and the energy savings. I need to test the less wrinkle mode as I haven’t tried that yet.
I think I’ll have to edit how I do laundry though and do more of a load a night type of thing vs saving it all for 2 weeks and then doing it all in a day or two. Although I did get through 2 weeks worth over the weekend for our family of 4.
