Y’all have convinced me to try the app. I’m going to be working from home for the next three weeks, which gives me two hours of my day back (no commute). I have a spin bike, that has regressed to home exercise equipment’s usual use (it holds our hanging ferns).
I’m not an excersiser. But the number of people who claim to have started from nothing and fallen in love, it’s worth a shot.
eta: I have the bike. Cadence sensor arrives tomorrow. It has an iPad holder bc I when I started, I did you tube videos. What else do I need? I see people talk about weights. Do I need to run to target and get weights? 2lb?

There are tons of rides that don’t require weights. (I’m guessing the majority are weights-free.) I’d try those first, then buy weights later if you decide you like it.

Not all classes have arms sections, and you can always skip the arms and just ride through. Totally up to you.
I have a studio bike that I bought off my spin instructor for $200, an iPad mount, and the app. I've used the actual peloton bike and I prefer the one I bought as it feels sturdier and better built. I don't really care about the leader board- I just want to watch the instructor and ride. I can also cast the class onto my TV, which has better sound and motivates me more.
This is exactly what I’m doing now!!
Before buying, I'd check out doing a ride on one first. It does not feel better built to me, so I don't see the point in spending that much more. I think the stores let you do a free ride.

I believe that there's a 30 day trial now too...if you don't like it you can send it back. I vaguely recall seeing an email about it a couple of months ago.

FYI, the peloton app is also a 30 day trail (not 2 weeks). I have tried two spin workouts in the “welcome to cycling” program, I couldn’t finish 20 minutes . But hell. I’m 2 months out of chemo (today), so I should take what I can get. It’ll come...

late to the thread, but I stayed at a hotel last week that had these and I fell in love. Its been years since I regularly exercised, have never tried spin in my life, but loved the peloton. Its crazy how the live class, but having privacy (semi, no one was in gym at the time) is a great motivator for me. When I got home Thursday I joined a gym and have been going every day. The price of the peloton is just too much right now, but if I get into a gym routine could see buying one.
Also late to the thread, but I went into a Peloton store last weekend and bought one. The salesperson gave me the Black Friday deal, but couldn't exactly tell me what it was until after Black Friday, but I *think it's the essentials package for free. She said I will get a credit after BF. So it's worth it to go into store if you can. I have heard that the delivery time after BF is a lot longer than normal. Mine is being delivered tomorrow!!

I've been an app rider for close to 2 years. I have the cheapest bike possible and if I upgrade someday will likely stay with the app because I'm cheap and don't like commitment.
I was an app rider (on my road bike + trainer), but when DH started wanting to do more indoor rides we went for it and bought the bike. No regrets! We really like it and now my 13 year old rides too, lol. I wish the subscription was less for peloton riders, but apparently it didn’t stop me. The ease and convenience of it all is worth it for us.

We should do a GBCN group ride.
Agreed on the first part- pretty happy with my current setup.
and yes! Down for a group ride at some point. If anyone wants to add me, my name here is the same on there.
Ok hi sorry to come back to this, but DH and I are now seriously considering this.
But one thing nagging at me: what if the company DOES go under? Obviously no more live classes, but would the database of classes still be available? I don’t want to be stuck with a super expensive piece of equipment with a screen that does nothing.
knx9211 Another one to consider is the brand new Wahoo KICKR bike that is meant to simulate a real bike and geared towards cyclists. You can use it with any program. You can use the Peleton app with it...Zwift, Sufferfest, Training Peaks, etc.

I just want to echo my peloton love in here now that this thread came back up. I have some knee swelling issues going on from my treatments and the low impact rides still do it for me - I honestly think it really does cater to all fitness levels.
Update: I did it! Mine will be here a week from tomorrow. Knowing that I can send it back within a month if I hate it or find I’m not using it enough made me jump in. Eeeeek!

I have no doubt you will love it! I just did a 45 minute class while DS ate breakfast and sat next to me watching a show. You can’t beat the convenience.

0 chance my kid will allow that without trying to climb it or otherwise acting up 🤣 but I look forward to nap time rides!
All I know about Peloton is that I am totally not their target market, LOL. Their commercials totally turn me off. All that, "waking up before dawn isn't for everyone...working out with no finish line isn't for everyone..." I'm pretty much like, "Yep, not for me!"
No idea on your question, but I pulled the trigger and mine comes tomorrow!!! I will ask the delivery guys and see what they say!!
Yeah I think I might call, although they could always lie. I’ll report back.
Did you ask? I mentioned one to my H today and his reaction was not what I thought it would be. He’s kind of encouraging I get one. Probably related to me leaving him with this kids last weekend to go to the gym. LOL. Anyway—I have a free trial class scheduled at the store later today.
