Iām looking at a letter to adopt for a girl who wants shoes and shirts, among other things.
Before I commit ... will I get more details about her age/size? Or am I expected to just send a gift card so she can buy her own?
No that letter is it. So if she didn't tell you her size, I would do gift card or maybe buy some stuff at Target and include gift receipt (if she told you her age so you can take a gander at her size).

Ok thanks!
Although in the time between when I first clicked on the letter and when I clicked the ADOPT button, it says someone else adopted it.
Bah. I really like the idea of this project but the platform is confusing for me. Iāll still keep it in mind but in the meantime Iāll look for something local with a more straightforward donation process.

I just came across a letter and the kid asked for $1,000. Another letter asked for an iPhone 11 and a shirt with āmy uncleās picture on itā. These are adorable. Hopefully I can find one I can actually help with!

I saw these letters too, and chuckled. Also a few asking for puppies ... one kid said āIām not even asking for an iPhone 11 even though all the other kids have one and I donāt. Iām just asking for a puppy.ā Lol. And a fence for the yard so she could have a puppy.
A lot of iPhone requests in general. I saw one from a kid asking for a phone because sometimes their friends make fun of them for not having one
I saw another asking for an Apple Watch because āIām the only kid without one.ā Are Apple Watches actually a thing with kids?
isabel, I saw that one. The Lambo part cracks me up the most. Aim for the stars, buddy.
mbcdefg, I came across the same issue w/r/t not knowing size or age, so I had to skip them. Which stinks because I really wanted to help out with more but I literally have no idea if you're 3 or 13. I can guess based on handwriting on some but not enough to feel confident.
So far I've adopted two. One girl wanted bubbles in a pink or or purple jar and a barbie. Let's just say it's going to look like barbie threw up when she opens that box, lol.
Another boy asked for "lots of books" because he likes to read. I was grateful that he told me his favorites so I could buy some more of those and ones similar.
I dropped off one of the boxes at the PO today and the lady that helped me looked at my like I had three heads. She'd never heard of this and told me I probably needed to bring it to UPS or FedEx. looooool. But we got it figured out and the box will be delivered on Monday! Now to finish up the second package
I adopted a 9 year old boy in Phillyās letter. He knows his mom canāt buy him presents so he just wants a football. If thatās too much then just a gift for his mom because she tries so hard and loves him and his brothers.

After many days of browsing for wishlists I could actually help fulfill, I finally snagged a girl asking for school supplies and an LOL Doll. I'm so excited to fulfill the wishes and add in some surprises
However, can anyone in the know about LOL dolls help me? I assumed she meant the ones that come in the little balls but now I'm seeing some larger LOL OMG dolls as well. I have no young girls in my life as reference- without an age or any other information, would you assume she means the little LOL surprise things in the ball or the bigger OMG doll?
I know USPS can't help it, but so many of these were lacking vital information like age, clothing size, etc. which was sad because that makes them pretty darn hard to adopt

I'm curious too. I have one with an LOL doll on it (actually says 10 LOL dolls, but also says 10 Baby Alive dolls - only getting one of each).
Also - Baby Alive - should I get a specific one? Are they all the same? I don't know age or anything on the girl who wants it... just name.
indifferentstars, my daughter (7 at the time) asked for LOL dolls last Christmas and I did a couple of the smaller ones and a pets one. She was perfectly happy with that, so I'd say go with what you want. They are all the same premise as far as I know. The large one is just a TON of them in one big ball.
Man. There's a letter on here from a single mom that is pulling so hard on my heart strings, but her son wants a Switch and I don't really think I can do that.
It makes me so sad. These kids just want what everyone else has and most of them won't get it because that stuff is expensive.

Gifts for everyone!!
Oh man. That letter makes my heart hurt. What a good boy.

Yes, I struggled with this, too. So many wants for Xboxes and iPhones. I canāt afford that stuff :-(. But kids donāt know, you know?
One asked for some money so his mom could get them all a nicer place to live. I canāt adopt that! I hope someone with more means can.

Yeah, I just bought more than I wanted to spend on stuff for a kiddo b/c I couldn't not send any of the things she wanted. Luckily she didn't want anything that was over about $15/item, but when I put all the things she wanted together, it came to over $120. I just couldn't NOT do it.
joy, downtoearth, It sucks. The Switch is $200 and that doesn't even include any games, which, I mean, how is the kid going to get games, you know?
I feel like I generally am kind of like do what you will with your own money, but at times like this, I think about people like Buffett and Bezos and am just like, they could adopt every single one of these letters and make Christmas for all these kids and families. I really hate the idea that there will be kids who wake up on Christmas morning with nothing and they'll go to school and see kids bragging about getting a Switch for Christmas. It's just such a fucked up concept and makes me rethink the Santa thing altogether, you know?

Thanks for the info I ordered a few little doll balls, a pets one, and one that's just a clothing surprise. Hopefully this is what she has in mind.
Also struggling, they all want an iPhone 11, Apple Watch, Nintendo switch, Xbox or a laptop š¢ I mean my daughter who is 7 has those things on her list too lol, and wonāt be getting them (and she wants 600 real dollars)but it seems different to not fulfil an adopted list like this.
The thing is if they say clothes, shoes, iPhone 11, macbook, Xbox, and lol doll etc I donāt feel right adopting the letter and not buying any of the āgoodā things because what if someone wealthier would have picked it up ...
One kid is asking for a smart watch which I could do since it didnāt specify Apple Watch, so maybe some kind of smart watch could be gotten for $100 or less?

I keep having this exact same thought. But your other point is good too actually. My kids arenāt getting the really big thing they asked for because Iām not spending that much on gifts for them. So maybe thatās something to hold onto. Your kid isnāt getting this stuff, so itās probably ok that the kid you adopt isnāt either. If they can get some things they need and some things they want (even if itās not an iPhone or switch), theyāll still have a great Christmas.
PSA: all packages must ship priority. This just bit me in the butt because I bought 10lbs of books that I thought I could send media mail. It cost me $45 to ship it. Between two gifts I spent almost $75 to ship them.
Iām glad I did it, but not sure Iāll do this next year. Or maybe Iāll pay better attention to where the people are that I adopt.

Ughhhh. I was nervous about this. I mostly bought clothes and the toys are pretty light, but still. I have at least 2 packages to send, probably 3. I've already spent more than I was really comfortable with.
I think I need to work harder to find a local option next year. I actually was at a place this weekend I don't normally go and they had a tree up with exactly what I wanted. Individual kids with their ages, genders, all their favorite things, etc. If I hadn't already adopted letters, I would have just done that and dropped stuff off there.
Pretty sure it wasnāt supposed to work this way, but the post office didnāt charge me. I watched them print the labels and put them on the boxes and then she gave me a $0 receipt with the tracking numbers. Sooo that was pretty freaking sweet! I spent about $200 and used $150 of primary.com credits between 3 kids, so it was nice that I didnāt have to shell out a bunch on shipping too. Iām so excited for these kids, especially the family that is new to America.
My letter is 3 year old asking for diapers, shoes, a train or car toy and a pillow. Along with the requests, Iām thinking about including a Walmart gift card with a note to parents saying I hope they use this on something for themselves. Diapers and a pillow. š¢. They want diapers and a pillow for their baby. It breaks my heart.
