I remember being 5 and sleeping in my crib. My parents bought me a bedroom set and forced me to go to a twin bed at that point.
My kids left at 18 months and just before 12 months. They'd stand there and scream relentlessly. I'm still dealing with the fallout for DS at 20 months, he will only fall asleep nestled next to someone. When that someone is me, he can take upto 45 minutes to fall asleep. Thankfully he will accept my husband as that someone, DD refused to sleep with him.
I say keep him there unless there is a reason to move.
So, for baby-proofing, we turned her bureau around so she couldn’t climb it and took out any toys we didn’t want her playing with. I worried about cords and outlets, but covered unfilled outlets and let everything else be. Instead, we watched on the monitor to see what else would need to be done.
The worst mine did was lie down to look under the door. She spent the rest of the time in her bed reading books or talking to her stuffed animals. We still have a monitor on her so I can hear any sheningans overnight. She’s done really well and I’m glad that I can trust her.
THIS IS SO ADORABLE TO ME!
S has no desire to climb out of his crib. he is almost 2.5 (wahhhh!) and still happily in his crib, despite being tall and a climber.
Also, for the last week or so, when we put him down at bedtime he stalls BIG TIME and sings and yells and bangs the wall, etc. I know if we removed the side of the crib he would absolutely be tearing apart his room.
We move in just under 3 weeks and I want to keep things as familiar for him as possible, so I am going to keep him in the crib a bit longer while we get settled into the new house.
resurrecting this thread. My DD is about to turn 3 next week. She is tall 39" but hasnt climbed out yet (a few times she has smiled and told me "look at me momma" as she pretends to hike her leg over when I get her in the morning). Is there a height limit to cribs? I was thinking of moving her in a few months...
We didn't do it until 3, and we went straight from crib to full size bed, with no stops at toddler bed/crib with the side off in between. That was motivated mostly by me being pregnant with DS and not wanting to buy a 2nd crib. There were no real shenanigans associated with the move though, and it went very smoothly.

Ours is 35" technically, but switching a kid just for height is CRAZY IMO.
However...at 3 I think she's probably ready.
We did it at 2.5 because he started flinging himself out. We also needed the crib at 2.75 anyway for the baby. It was totally no big deal. An easy transition.
I can't remember who it is, but there's someone on this board that will come in and be insistent that the 35" is a hard line and you are making bad decisions if you don't move them immediately. LOL

Thanks. I think I will do it in February, as I am working on her room over the break (she is moving from downstairs to upstairs) and we have family coming in December and end of January and I need the bed. If she crawls out before then, I will just convert her to a toddler bed until February.

We just switched our 2.5yo boys to toddler beds, which has actually not gone as bad as I thought it would.
Anyway before we moved them I posted about them climbing out of their cribs in my local twin mom group on FB, and asked for recs on a Gro Clock vs Hatch Baby Rest to help keep them in their beds. This chick who has claimed to be a sleep expert wrote me this big looooong post about their age and if they’re over 35” how it is sooo dangerous for them to be in their cribs and how I must move them out of them immediately. Thanks! That’s not what I asked for! 🙄 lol

That seems like a reasonable plan. My crib is good as a toddler bed until 50 lbs so there aren't any concerns there. We went straight to a twin, but only because we needed the crib for DS2. DS2 will probably be in the crib then toddler bed until college.

It's crazy! DS1 technically would have outgrown his crib by height just before his second birthday. He was not at all ready to transition at that point. It would have been terrible. We monitored his behavior and when we thought it was getting unsafe at 2.5 we moved him and it was easy at that point! People are nutso.
I didn't realize there were height limits. My newly 3 year old is still in his crib and we have no plans to move him anytime soon. I like him contained, and he loves his crib. I bought an inexpensive 2nd hand crib for DD.

S lovesssssss her bed too and sleeps so well in it.

It appears to be the same person who went hard in the paint on the RNP.

Yeah, I'm just not willing to rock the boat on this one until necessary!

Yes!! You're right. Which reminds me. She once said there was more to the story and we'd "find out soon". Maybe I'll bump it and see if she'll come back to explain. LOL
