H is 8 days post vasectomy, and I'm trying to establish what the variance in "normal" is. Everybody makes it sound like he'd be back to normal in 2-3 days, and that's not our case at all.
He is healing, albeit very slow. All of his pain is focused on the right side. Describes it as a pinching pain, and cant really bend down. He over did it yesterday and woke up to a lot more bruising. It's not overly swollen.
Is this still normal? Google most likely says yes, but it's not been as easy as we were lead to believe. Meanwhile I'm on pretty much on solo kid duty and I'm getting pretty cranky about it.
My husband had his on a Friday, was up and about the next day and back to work on Monday. That does seem like a long time. Does he have a follow up appointment any time soon? I can’t remember when they do that.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
It could be but I would have him call and talk to the dr. My H had stabbing pain on one side for months off and on and unfortunately that can happen. But I feel like he was able to pretty much move normally by a week out. He did take 2 weeks off of intense exercise but he was definitely helping with the kids after a few days.
My DH took a super long time, like weeks and weeks. It was much more of a recovery than anyone had warned about. He also has a job on his feet all day and only took a couple of days off work, so that did not help matters. He was pretty miserable for a long time. But he is totally fine now. Even said the other day that it was the best body modification that he’s ever done lol.

Yeah, he has a physical job and had to go to to work on Monday (surgery was Thursday) and he was in agony. He took the rest of the week off, but can't do that next week and may even have super long days. Did your H do anything to help the recovery along?
He is able to move and help somewhat. He chopped some firewood today but had to ice after. He makes all of our meals. He just cant do much childcare because one is either at ground level or the other has been over his weight limit.
It probably took my dh 6-8 weeks. He was freaked out the pain wouldn’t go away but it eventually did. We had probably 5 friends who got it done around the same time and it was no big deal.

H had some ongoing pain for about a month to six weeks or so after his vasectomy. It went on long enough that he went back to the doctor who basically just told him to wait longer to see if it went away - which it did. However, it didn’t impact his life to the extent you are describing. I would call the doctor back.
That's a long time and I would call the doctor for sure. Is your H wearing any kind of support? A jockstrap or at least briefs?
My H has had 2, with a reversal in between. I was not around for the first vasectomy, but he was up and around within like 3 days after the reversal and second vasectomy.

That does seem long to me. Dh is a baby. He also had his on a Friday, and my mom came to help watch the kids (they weren't allowed in the office when I took him). He stayed in bed all Friday night and almost all of Saturday. Sunday he was out of bed, but was still taking it easy. Monday he went back to work, but was still tender. I think he was fine pretty much after that.
My bff's dh just had it done this fall. The next day she asked me to go with her to help her pick up some furniture. My dh was home, but her dh told me to bring my kids for hers to play with. I was like, um, you can bring them over here, my dh can watch all the kids so you can have some peace to recover, and he was like no, bring them over, I'm outside doing yard work so they can all play outside. I was amazed.
Recovery was much tougher on DH than we expected. I want to say it was at least a week that he was feeling pretty rough. He wore the jock strap and briefs for like 2 weeks and just briefs for another week after that. I would bet that the sleeping naked is a big part of why he’s still so sore.
MH also had a longer recovery. He had a slight complication (difficulty finding the right spot on one side) but thought wearing 2 pairs of boxer briefs would be good enough. As soon as he started wearing regular briefs his recovery went much better .

Wait, do boxer briefs not count in this case? He seems well supported in them.
Hopefully going back to sleeping in them will help. He asked today if chainsawing would be a bad idea because he is getting restless. YES! If you can't do childcare, you can't chainsaw.
He managed to take both kids to the store, blew some leaves and decided sex was a good enough idea, so whatever. While I dont doubt it still hurts, it cant be THAT bad anymore.

If he was doing heavy lifting 4 days post-op, and is still having pain, I'd be worried about herniation at the surgical site.
My husband has a heavy job and took a solid 7 days off of all lifting (including children). He was so restless at day 3 and started driving around, but no lifting for a solid 7 days. I, myself, had a post-surgical umbilical herniation MONTHS after gallbladder surgery, so I was scared that may happen to him and was pretty strict.
