My daughter is approaching 4, and I’m looking at Playmobil as a possibility for Christmas gifts from family. She has a small amount of it right now and quite likes it. For those of you who had kids with Playmobil, was it played with for a long time?
My kids really like playmobil. My 5 yo (6 in Jan) still loves it and is gettting more for Christmas. The way he plays with it has evolved. He used to set up the set and just play with it as it was. NOw he pulls out the animals and builds habitats for them with blocks and Magnatiles. He doesn’t play with his Playmobil trucks anymore. I think he’s just outgrown trucks in general. For us, we’ve gotten the most play out of them of any toy besides the Magnatiles.
DD really liked Playmobil for a few years. The playground set was probably one of her most played with toys ever. She got her first set at 4, added a few more at 5, and then was pretty over it by age 7. That's the age where she grew out of most toys.

Mine didn't get that much use out of it. My ds got a big pirate ship (imaginext i think) one year for christmas, and then got several playmobil pirate sets to go with it. Both kids played with them occasionally for 2 years maybe? The pirate ship got played with a lot longer, along with other big vehicles. My daughter is very into animals, so she uses small animal figures to play in whatever playsets she likes/makes, so I think that sorta takes the place of playmobil playing she would do.
Ours were all hand-me-downs. My soon to be 8 year old still plays with them occasionally. The 10 year old will play with the pieces (not a whole set) on occasion.
My kids still really like toys. ALL four will still play with Playmobil. Even my almost-11 year old has some on her Christmas list, but she just mostly just likes to set it up (she got that ski lodge referenced earlier last year! It's so cute). My almost-9-year-old wants the knights and castle set and I really do think he will still play with it. My almost 5 & 7 year olds still play with it a lot, and it's something they can pull out and do together. Yesterday they had the whole zoo out. As previous poster said, they don't always play with it totally as intended, but they play with it (the zoo animals were all in a different room from the rest of the zoo, in a circle, with a bunch of paper things they made for them). Santa has brought a set for each kid for each of the past couple of years.
Four is like totally prime-time to get to buy new sets! Go for it. They should easily get a solid 3 years of use. After that I think it depends a lot on the kid.
4 is a great age to get started with Playmobil. That’s when my kids started playing with them and DD is 10 and still plays with them, so I’d say we got our money’s worth lol.

We don’t have a ton of storage, so longevity is a good thing. Trying to avoid things that will be appealing for a split second!
My kids (3 and 7) love Playmobil. My daughter is moving more towards barbies / lol dolls (shudder), but the fairy sets she got in particular are still played with regularly. I think the Sylvanian (I think it's called Calico Critters in the states?) stuff we have is more appealing now that she's older as it's so tiny, but at 4 you should get a good few years out of playmobil appeal.
Random but related. If anyone is looking for the Playmobil Wolf Knights castle for their kids, it's $38 instead of $50 on Amazon right now! This was one of the last items left to get my son, and I was waiting for a deal, so score!
I started buying sets when my oldest was 4 & she’s 15 now. My 12, 10 & 6yr old will still play with them. We have a lot of sets of various themes and they have siblings to play with which surely factors into it. It’s been one of my favorite toys to buy (I still buy sets), I plan on keeping them for my grandkids. Legos, Brio Trains, AG dolls, Calico Critters & Playmobil have been my go to toys to buy my 4 daughters for 10yrs.
