Good Holiday! I had a case of ask and you shall receive. For weeks, I have wanted a rainy day to lay in bed and watch movies. I had plans to do small business Saturday shopping with friends, but it was torrential rains here so everybody bailed, including me because I had come down with a cold. So Saturday, I basically lounged and watched Hallmark all day. We sent DS out to pick up takeout.
This is a relatively calm week. Normal classes at work, no late night meetings or presentations. No after hours school events. For those that are interested, Rudolph comes on tonight, and Charlie Brown Christmas Thursday. 2 of my favorites. I may even make some Christmas candy with the family one night.
Really good holiday weekend. Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday were all lazy days, which we all needed (especially DS, who came down with a cold starting Thursday evening). I did some Christmas shopping at Meijer and online, and only have a few more gifts to get. We saw friends on Saturday for a surprise 40th birthday party, so that was fun. We got our Christmas tree on Saturday and decorated it on Sunday, so now it feels like Christmas in our house.
The kids' holiday music show is tomorrow (Tuesday) evening, so that will be nice to have that done and out of the way. Other than that, this week should be pretty calm. This Friday is my Friday off and the kids have a half day, so that will be helpful coming off a long holiday weekend.

Great holiday weekend. A mix of lazy days and busy days with lots of family time.
I received my first work call as I was getting out of the shower. And my first work text right after I dropped the kids off at school. And my third work text when I set down at my desk to start work on the first text. So.
I visited with family Wednesday - Saturday. Lots of hanging out, laughs, and fun. It was a really relaxing visit. Our annual Black Friday shopping day with my mom, sister, and aunt was a ton of fun as always. It made it easier to enjoy my first big holiday without my kids around.
Then I got to spend Saturday and Sunday with beau. He came to dinner at my BFF's house to meet her and her husband on Saturday. It was the first time one of us has officially met anyone - friends, family, etc. It was the most casual, great meeting. I felt like I could just breathe and enjoy myself and beau hit it off with them. BFF's husband, who I've known for 10 years, said that it's the happiest he has ever seen me. I think it's a combination of getting rid of the toxic ExH and working on myself so much this year and finding the lovely new guy.
Now I'm buried in a blizzard that is set to last for like 36 hours. We could get almost 2 feet. So the office is closed and I'm basically panicking about losing a whole day since I'm in all day meetings Wed/Thurs/Fri/Mon for annual planning. Wish me luck!
I had a week off, and I feel like I went on a bender. I didn’t. But I’ve had a low level migraine for a week that I keep corralling that came roaring back at 4am. I’ve corralled it again, but my brain is incredibly foggy. Luckily I have a light day today. And tomorrow, which is freaking me out. It’s rare for me to have 2 easy days in a row.
On the “excited about this” front, I’m speaking at a seminar in DC in a couple of weeks on a panel. It’s on a topic on which I’m an expert for a pretty important organization, and it’s full of speakers who are really famous in our field. So that’s pretty awesome. I’ve been looking to increase my profile, so between this and a speech I’m doing in Seattle in January, I’m making progress on that front.
Holiday was nice. We went to MIL’s house for a few days, and DH’s uncle hosted Thanksgiving. The meal was great, as was the company. We came home on Saturday (5 hour drive) and I did laundry and grocery shopping. Sunday we got our tree, and DD2 had a birthday party about 35 minutes away.
The kids were banking in no school today, but I kept telling them that the snow was changing to rain. We woke up to 2-3 inches of slop. It didn’t snow at all at their school - they were so disappointed! I, however, was not 🤪.
It was a long holiday weekend. My mom came in Wednesday. We had lost power at work, so I went home early. Everyone over on Thursday and Friday, but luckily Friday I had to work. Friday was busy, but it sounds like relatives were annoying DH (being demanding while sitting on the couch), so I didn't miss much. Then a fancy dinner out, where it was fine for me, but everyone else makes it awkward and then double awkward by talking about it being awkward. All of them are in-laws except my mom, so I figure this is their problem not mine. My mom was supposed to leave Sat, but didn't leave until Sunday morning when we were at swim class. So at least we had a babysitter Sat night, but we had another sort of doomed meal where the restaurant got our order all wrong, but then we got some shopping done.
Yesterday I stuffed some presents into bags because they were getting overwhelming. We still have more to wrap. DH and DS picked up the tree, and the 3 of us decorated (me, DD, and DS). They tree is really pretty, and then we watched a Christmas movie. So I feel a little bit better about all the stuff I need to do, but I need to start packing. Get a few more presents and do more wrapping. I also still need to bring the elf out too.
waverly, That dress seems super casual to me. I don't think you need to go to ballgown level, but the one you linked looks more like what I'd wear on a Saturday afternoon in the summer.
waverly, If they are pinning that, I would probably go with a lace type or cocktail dress that I could pull off at a wedding at some point. I loved this, but alas, do not have any fancy parties to go - DH's work rents out the movie theater for families for Christmas.

It was a great weekend. I cooked for my parents, DS and beau on Thursday. Friday was dinner at my parents house where my niece and her family came, along with me, DS and beau. We went skeet shooting and had a great visit. I hadn't been around my niece's 2nd husband very much, but he seems like an amazing guy. He got up after dinner and did all of the dishes for my mom. Beau fit right in with everyone which made me happy. I had to have DS back to his dad's house by 5 on Friday, and then beau and I spend the rest of the weekend together, not doing much.
The second one might work with fancy shoes and jewelry. I’d probably buy something though. Or Rent the Runway, though I’ve had crap luck with them so far.
waverly, DH's old company did over the top parties like that all the time. When they posted black tie formal, they meant black tie formal. Some people always showed up dress down considerably, but I would have felt uncomfortable doing so. So it really is a matter of how many f*!~%s you give.
Personally, I'd rent the runway. You can find something dressy for the cost of the dress they posted and you don't have to worry about when/if you'll wear it again, because let's be honest.. most of folks aren't repurposing fancy dresses in their everyday lives.
I'll try it on and see if I can make it fancy enough, if not I'll buy something. Thanks y'all especially since you know I don't care a lot about fashion. Honestly, I think the stuff they pinned is super ugly. One of the pins is jeans with a sparkly top so officially confused. I think it is cocktail with aspirations of being more than it is.
Thanksgiving was Thanksgiving. Inlaws showed up, I got a lecture from MIL about how it was so important to not get "stuck in the rat race" that when she had her twins, she only lasted 2 months before quitting her job to go live somewhere more affordable so she could take them to the beach every day because quality time should really be the most important thing in life.. but alas, not everyone feels that way these days. Needless to say, wine was had.
DD came to work with me on Friday. She emptied everyones shred bins, got hyped up on candy, and walked out with an extra $7 to her name.
I had a spa day on Saturday with a friend. It was divine. DH had people over while we were gone - not people he would have invited over left to his own devices (spouse/children of the friend I went to the spa with). I took one look at the house/kitchen and said "I'm not cleaning this tomorrow" and I didn't. But I should have been more specific, because I'm pretty sure I'll be cleaning it today...
DD was down and out all weekend. She still feels like crap but broke her fever Friday night/Saturday morning and no vomiting/diarrhea since Thursday. I asked her to lay down for one hour yesterday to just rest and she ended up napping for three. I sent her to school today and gave her teacher a heads up. She really wants to go to practice tomorrow but I told her she has to concur school before I even think of letting her go back to the gym.
I finished all my signs for the PTO this weekend!! I just need to deliver them to school. It felt really good to put all the paper crafting stuff away and to turn my living room back into a peaceful room instead of a clutter mess. I also cleaned the spar room to get the tree out and cleaned and rearranged the living room to put the tree up. It is up but not decorated. Got DH to put some lights up on the house but he is being a Grinch so only did the short part of the house and not the peak so the lights look a little funny. He didn't want to dig out the big ladder to do the peak. I also started back working on my painting that got put on hold for PTO stuff. I made some progress but really need to finish it in the next week or so otherwise it will sit until May as I won't have the energy to do it once I get busy with work.

I was off for a week and now I feel like I’ve forgotten how to be at work. This morning has been a struggle.
The time off was lovely. Took my oldest skating, got all the Christmas decor up. Thanksgiving with the in-laws went well enough and the girls love seeing their cousins. Generally just a laid back sort of week with lots of outside time. Now it’s crunch time at work until Christmas shut down. All the coffee!
I’m sad I can’t put up Christmas decor yet. Our hot water heater leaked and damaged a closet, our main living area carpet, our entry way hardwood and a hallway hardwood. Then this weekend a glassshelf in our China hutch flipped itself over like we had a poltergeist and broke a bunch of dishes, which then dropped out of said hutch and damaged the dining room hardwoods. So we are putting Pergo down in our entire downstairs, hopefully before Christmas. But no tree until we know when they can do the work.
We went on a Black Friday online spending binge. But most Christmas shopping is done so yay? And DHs phone screen cracked today because of course it did. So now to decide if he gets a new phone or if he replaces the screen (again because he refuses to buy a really good case, although he’s finally seeing my otterbox love today!).
Break was nice with the kids, very relaxing which was much needed!! DS got a couple of teeth pulled this morning so I took the morning off. About to take him to school and go into work for the afternoon.
And I booked our summer vacation yesterday. We are going to Japan for 2 weeks so I’m totally stoked and only a little apprehensive about that!
rere that sounds perfect that was my Friday! This week business as usual with work and school. Soccer is over but we have swim and Cub Scouts this week.

We had a great weekend. Had the usual kids' activities, but managed to take the kids out for both skating and skiing and we all had a lot of fun.
Then we found out last night that our nanny's minor surgery had unexpected complications, so she's out for the rest of this week, and likely next week as well. My parents live 5 minutes away and can fill in; but it's still rather stressful.

My gym did a deal on personal training sessions for black Friday (they have to be used within 6 months of purchase). I asked DH to buy me a package as a gift for christmas. I know he did it because the gym just called to find out when I want to use the sessions. Whoops!
I'm SOOOOO thankful I work from home on Mondays!! I needed it today. THanksgiving has become a marathon in our neighborhood. A fun one, but a LOT going on.
Wednesday is a ladies brunch at a friends house. But this year (The 2nd year), only 3 of us could make it. Then our husbands came over too. And "brunch" ended at about 5. Lots of champagne. I had to make a pie (for the first time EVER) that night and doing it drunk was.... interesting.
Then Thursday - we fry a turkey around noon and a neighbor brings his fryer over. And usually other people will stop by for a drink before all our family festivities officially start.
Friday is now FryDay - we get the fryers together and fry pretty much whatever we want/ can think of.
It's all a ton of fun, but it's SO MUCH drinking and SO MUCH socializing. And these events don't include the 2 friendsgivings we were invited to Fri/Sat. I was DONE yesterday. DONE. Having today at home too was glorious.
rere, what kind of Christmas candy do you make? That sounds fun (and yummy). I'm sure my kids would love to do that!!
Super easy kind. White chocolate pretzels. Poor man's turtles which is a pretzel, with a melty rolo on top and a pecan pushed in the middle. Dip peanut butter Ritz Bitz in milk chocolate. Like a crunchy little peanut butter cup. I may make some oreo balls this weekend.

I make homemade marshmallows. They’re surprisingly easy if you have a candy thermometer and a stand mixer. I use Alton Brown’s recipe. I might experiment this year with flavoring and dipping in chocolate.
I also make gum drops. The kids loooove them - I make them for their Christmas Bazaar - great because nut and gluten free.

I make toffee and fudge every year. My mom would make those and also peanut brittle when I was a kid. I don’t like peanut brittle as much so I only do the 2 now.
I'm so screwed. The kids have another snow day. I am supposed to be facilitating a huge annual planning meeting tomorrow for the first time ever and I haven't been to the office since last Wednesday. I have to get to the office for at least a couple hours today. I was already nervous about this meeting to begin with. Now I'm a mess with this complete lack of prep time available.
