I have a vent. I have triple checked with DH when he will be off over the holidays because school is closed for 2 weeks and the winter "camp" really has no coverage.
Last night at dinner he's all "I might have to work during the shutdown." Cue my WTF face because one, if your company is "shut down," why is anyone working and two, we've gone over this several times as there are several things we need to do over the break. One of which is sitting at the DMV to get my real ID.
It's just very frustrating and an on-going issue of who has the "more important" job because despite being more senior and making more money, I'm the one who always ends up accommodating the kid stuff.
I burned a chunk of hair off this morning! I always put on a heat protectant before I curl my hair. Well, apparently I grabbed dry texture spray this morning and that does not mix well with heat. My house smells bad and my hair looks...odd right now but I think after a wash and restyle it will look OK. Maybe?
I had a whole post typed up, but for some reason ProBoards logged me out. ugh.
I'm launching my annual Cradles to Crayons Socks and Underwear Drive today. If anyone is interested in donating, please feel free to PM me and I'll share my Amazon Wish List, I just don't want to post it here because I'm pretty sure it has my real name.
We have early release every Wednesday. I live it and hate it. It makes Thursday feel like another Monday. But it’s nice to have the kids honestly so we can try to get so things done. However, getting things done is very dependent on how many dumb meetings we have. Lol!
Does anyone have headphones they like in the $30-50 range? It occurred to me this morning that might be another good gift for my H for Christmas.
We've set a budget of around $50 for Christmas gifts and I'm finding that really hard. In general if we want something in that price range, we just buy it.
I just bought lightweight jackets for my kids for next year and am super happy about it. They're a little too pricey when not on sale, but Primary.com has them for really cheap today.
I'm working from home today and have a few things I need to knock out, but I think I'm going to go take a hot shower and eat some breakfast before I really dive in.
Last night I cooked a meal my mother used to make pretty much every time H and I came for dinner. We hadn't had it in 2,5 years, ever since she couldn't really cope with cooking etc. (dementia).
I cried making it, then cried because I had done the onions wrong. In the end it was a bit different to how she made it, but still transported us to a time when it wasn't stressful to eat with her so that was cathartic I guess? And I will now add this to my list of our family recipes, our way.
Ssmjlm-that’s very frustrating - I find that if I just tell H dates and tell him to figure it out because it’s not my problem he does, but it’s like I have to threaten him-ha
I’m still dealing with my Etsy issue...the seller said she would refund the $12 I paid extra for the monogram I can’t use and after three weeks and several times of following up (I think she thought I would just forget) I finally sent a message to Etsy and the response was “the seller wants to cancel the transaction.” If she thinks I’m sending the wreath back, she’s really crazy.
My kid’s bus just... forgot to pick him up. They have been 30 + minutes late every day this week, and today when I called, she said they forgot and she would send another bus. I told them no, we will just take him today. I am so frustrated by the bus company this year. It took them a month to get a good timed routine that would get DS to school on time, then they did well for a month, and now it’s back to bad. He is the last kid on the route, and luckily has somewhere warm and safe to wait, but it is unacceptable to just forget a kid, especially a first grader.

I enlisted my retired aunt and uncle for gift help, asking if the gift could be delivered to their house and if he would assemble it for me. The gift recipient does not do assembly. I got a text from my aunt yesterday: 007 reporting that the package has arrived. This mornings text: 007 the package has been assembled when would you like drop off? They are cracking me up! I'm so grateful for them and their help. They're helping me feel better with my other family craziness going on.

LOL my mom refers to herself as “the eagle” when she does things like this
We have DS' baptism on Sunday. Lots of out of town guests who are coming Friday night and people who want to hang out to see everyone all weekend.
Meanwhile, I need my house to be presentable on Sunday for the Baptism reception. But these out of town guests also need to be fed Friday and Saturday.
Ahhhhhhhh. I should have just done the reception at a restaurant, but it's like 40 people and I'm cheap.
I hope people are in the mood for Costco cause I'm kind of thinking of just going there and getting a bunch of prepared foods for the weekend, but then of course 1 of the people is a vegetarian. :::sobs:::
ETA: Oh also--now that my dog has a herniated disc he can't go play with a friend's dog during the baptism so.....not sure what to do with him. Also--he's on a super high prednisone dose so he'll probably piss all over my house before Sunday. LOL
I thought DH and I had successfully avoided all the germs that our kids had, but the last two days I’ve had a fever and horrible body aches and now my throat is getting worse. I’m pretty sure it’s exactly what DS2 had and if it is, I can expect it to last a couple more days.
I get irritated when I think about how, if DH had a 102 temp, there’s no way he’d even get out of bed. But I have to take some ibuprofen and hope it doesn’t take too long to kick in as I’m trying to get the 3 kids ready for school. DH leaves for work before the kids and I get up, but I wish it was possible for him to stay for just an hour to help me. But he left without even checking on me.

This is what kills me. Every time my H doesn't feel well (which is kind of often because he has Celiac and will vomit badly at least a few times a year) I send him to the basement to chill and get better. When I'm sick I parent while feeling shitty.

followyourarrow, I love it. It reminds me of where I used to work. There was a preschool there and they would hatch chicken eggs for the local university extension every spring. During their spring break, I would flip the eggs in the incubator for the teachers.
Every day, without fail at 9am, 1pm, and 5pm I would get a text from one of the teachers: "Mother Goose to Big Bird, come in Big Bird. Has the cargo been rolled?" to remind me to go flip them and check the water levels in the incubator. Always cracked me up.
Has anyone ever ordered postage stamps from the USPS website? How long did they take to arrive?
I want specific stamps for my holiday cards and my local post office never has a very big selection of stamp choices.
I have! They arrived in 2 days.
Really?! I wanted to order some and it said "ships in 5-7 business days" which felt too late. Like, I didn't know if it left them in 5-7 days or if I'd get it in 5-7 days. Maybe I'll give it a try. Worst case, I have a ton of extra stamps, lol.

It said that for me too but they arrived right away. It’s worth a shot IMO

Nice. I ordered the winter berries. Like I said, worst case scenario (since they're forever stamps) is I have plenty for next year, lol.
I’m been feeling like I was getting sick since Saturday. Today I feel legit sick. So gross! At least I’m getting a bunch of reading done?
I got good news that my mom is getting a visiting nurse who is afflicted with her hospital to help out occasionally. This will make things easier! She’s still doing well but it’s hard to keep all these things straight. Now the nurse can report back to the doctor and my mom won’t have to go in quite so much for just check ins.
My boss wants to put me in for awards from a big project. Except I know that his boss won't push the nominations forward. So I'm basically writing these up for my boss to review/nominate, but then it won't go anywhere. I've tried to tactfully say I'm good with not being recognized, but he's adamant, so that's what I'm spending my afternoon doing.
sewf, I'd send a note to the principal to make sure someone in the school district is aware. Our principal and superintendent's office would be ALL over that (we have had ongoing issues with our bus company).
I'm finally biting the bullet and getting estimates for someone to clean my house a few times a month. I just can't do it any longer and decided I'll make other sacrifices to make it happen.

sssjm this shouldn't be your issue. I totally get the who's job is more "important", but no you planned around him being off. The stupid real ID is a literal half to whole day at the DMV and time sensitive given the expiration date.
Keep up the cutting back on smoking! Taco that's great news. Visiting nurses for my dad was a huge help, even just to know someone was in the house. Hopefully you have less apts. moving forward.
We had two snow days in a row so I had a nice 6 day break, which I needed so bad. It took us an entire day to get the tree up and decorated so getting a "free" day off was a nice treat to make up for it. I really should have read and done laundry and caught up on stuff, but alas lazy days were better.
My cat went to the vet today and they think it's thyroid, but testing for other stuff like lymphnodes. DH took her so he hasn't told me the alternate issue. Waiting on blood work I guess. I hope she's ok, she's eating a lot, and drinking a lot so hopefully it's not fatal.
