DD is 13 and isn't into makeup, yet, but when her friends come over, they seem to enjoy doing makeup, particularly, eye make up, like they see on you tube. For sanitary reasons, I would like to get DD her own eye make up set for Christmas, so she is not sharing with the other girls, who bring their own sets. I haven't worn eye make up, since 1986, when Merle Norman was the place to go, and teal the color to get.
Can anyone recommend a set that would be decent and not break the bank? Mascara or eye liner still a thing? Those would be good, too.
I would just get a set from the drug store since they are cheaper than make-up counter. For some, I have to be careful of breakouts, but not with eye make-up which makes it easier. I have a Maybelline set for shadows. Some people like the Target brand. Mascara, I like waterproof otherwise it gets all over. I am not skilled with pencil, so I like liquid eyeliner maybe in a dark brown some blacks can be too dark.

I really like Nyx for lots of fun colors and neutrals, pretty cheap, and quality. It's available at most box stores and can also be ordered online through their website or ulta/sephora.
They are cruelty-free, but their parent company is not.
There are a lot of drugstore makeup palettes now. My dd is 11 and same...she isn’t super into makeup but does like doing it here and there and when friends are over. I got her a cover girl trunaked eye shadow palette before that she really likes. There are a few different shade options (I got her the roses one). I just ordered a maybelline eye and cheek one too. I think any of the drugstore brand ones would be fine for a teen especially if she isn’t super into makeup. Target was just having a beauty sale during cyber Monday so I just searched online for eye shadow palette and picked one there. There are a lot of cute and fun options.
I don’t think my girl is into eye liner but they do use mascara for fun at times. Again drug store ones are fine. I actually have given her little trial size ones I’ve gotten as free gifts through Sephora, etc. I usually see small size nice brands at ulta by the checkout area. But basic ones like maybelline are still liked by people. One group I’m on always raves about essence and you can usually get it inexpensive on amazon. I rarely wear mascara so I don’t have much personal experience but I don’t think you need anything too amazing for her.
My 13 year is alllllll about the make up, and particularly eye make up. She has a ton of palettes, most of which are cheap because I’m not a huge make up person and not a huge fan of teen make up so she has to buy it herself. . The “best” palette she has is a James Charles one she got on clearance or sale at Target. But really I think you can go with any palette with a variety of fun colors and neutrals and be good to go. My girl does not mess with eyeliner, but she always wears mascara even if she has no other make up. She likes waterproof.
She also really likes to play around with contouring so she has some contour palettes as well. So that might be something else to consider since that seems to be the other thing these days.

Thank you guys. I went to Target and got a pallette with a lot of colors, and some okish brushes in a variety of sizes. That should be enough to give her something to try with her friends.
