UPDATE: lol she called and they did refund it. But that was a bad 10 minutes for my blood pressure. Whew.
I'm so fucking pissed right now. I mentioned this in the randoms thread. In September I bought Dear Evan Hansen tickets for tomorrow evening. I have an e-mail confirmation for one purchase of 2 tickets for $195.
Fast forward to today and I think, I'll log in and get my mobile tickets saved to my Apple Wallet. I see I have 8 tickets in my account. Double check my e-mail, yep, just the one confirmation. So I call them. The woman tells me, "Oh yeah so when you purchased the tickets, sometimes the website glitches and it will tell you it didn't go through and to try again, but really it did go through. If you had checked your account you would have seen the tickets." And she says she thinks they've updated it to say, "Ooops this didn't go through, but maybe it did so check your account." or some shit like that.
First of all, what the fuck. If your website tells me it didn't work, during a ticket presale, I'm going to try to buy new tickets right away, not think, "Oh, well maybe it DID actually work and I should take the time to log into my DSM eNotes account and check!" So then she says, "Ok, I'll refund all, but 2." and then "Oh, it won't let me because it's within 72 hours of the show. I'll have to get a supervisor to approve it, but they might not because they're really strict about that. It's too bad you waited until basically the day of the show to check your account."
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? I told her (as nicely as I could) that if her supervisor wouldn't approve the refund then they needed to call me because that is completely unacceptable.
So. Am I wrong here? Did I have some responsibility to assume their system was fucked up or to check for my tickets more than 72 hours in advance? Like, who would think that? I'm also not sure what my recourse is if they flat out refuse to refund me. It's $585!
Glad it wasn't too much of a hassle. That's such a bullshit way to respond in the first place. Why on earth would you be looking over the tickets at any other time than right before using them?
Glad they are refunding you! I never look at my actual tickets until a day or two before the event. I only check the confirmation email, which wouldn't have helped you in this case.
I do watch my bank account like a hawk and would have noticed the charge, though. Did you confirm your bank was actually charged for the other 6 tickets?

Yeah, I had H check the credit card on-line and sure enough! There are 4 charges for $195. I don't have a log-in and the bill gets paid automatically. This is probably a good example of how we don't pay enough attention to our finances. And a reminder that we're lucky enough not to miss an extra $585.

That’s bullshit and I’m glad they fixed it. Something similar happened to me once but the second charge never made it past “pending” and eventually fell off. Did you have eight different seats? I don’t see how they could charge you four times for the SAME tickets. It’s not like it’s general admission!

Yes, they were different seats. Because when I would log back in, those seats would be gone. Now I know it's because I purchased them, but at the time I just thought they'd sold (because tickets were selling as I was trying to pick seats) and maybe that was part of the glitch.

I also don’t look super detailed at our CC charges, oops. But I do have an a notification set up on the Amex to email us for charges over $300. So that does help to be alerted that way if that’s an option.

I find ticket sales to be the worst for crapping out either on the you bought it, but it didn't tell you, or you didn't buy it, and it told you, you did, and then not being able to get any sort of customer service, despite the crazy high fees for events. I can see not noticing on the credit card bill, but we run a lot of DH's work travel and my property management expenses through our cards, so our normal bills, are way more than our actual budgets for day to day life. Glad they made it right.
I’m just going to promote YNAB again. You would have noticed immediately. 😉
I’m going to use this to say how much I love YNAB. I somehow missed the multi month free trial and asked over chat. They gave it to me free for 4 months, no questions asked.
