The thread title is misleading. That isn't family leave. It's parental leave.
I changed it, but from what I gathered from my friends working on the hill and at CBO they are still figuring that part out and it may be broader than parental leave.

That is a good start. Too bad they can't mandate that all US employees get this (I think it's only like 10-25% of all employees based on where you live). But even if 25% of your workforce get this benefit, it might mean the private sector will follow to compete?
I am also bitter that I took three maternity leaves with zero pay. Completely unpaid all three times.

This is my hope. It certainly won't happen quickly, but I think this is a huge step toward getting there. Public sector companies will have to start competing on this benefit at some point. It actually feels like a real possibility to me now, where it never has before. Now, just because some private companies start offering it doesn't mean that we've made it. It needs to be federally mandated to make sure it hits people working in hourly and low-wage jobs. But I feel like there's that tiny potential glimmer of possibility.
I'm not really even bitter about taking unpaid leave anymore. I just want so badly for this country to catch up to literally the entire rest of the world.

Did everyone miss this part?
Asked about the tentative agreement, a Democratic aide was more cautious, saying they were "nearing agreement on a final [bill] that includes the 12 weeks in exchange for space force."
