We recently re-did our living room. I was planning to re-hang 2 IKEA are ledges with frames over the couch but am now reconsidering since we have a gallery wall in the adjoining space.
Would 1 or 2 large pieces of art look better? MH loves triptych art but I'm not a fan of most examples that I have seen.
Any suggestions?
ETA: no idea why the pic is sideways and no idea how to fix it
I’d do 1 very large piece or 3 smaller. I generally prefer things in odd numbers on the wall.
ETA: I looked again...since you have 3 cushions, I’d hang one thing over the couch. 3 would look too matchy-matchy unless you had one large and two smaller.

Lovely room! I could see 2 giant things looking ok if they’re close together (almost like they’re 1 piece). Gallery wall would look nice but you seem to have that covered. the couch looks a little close to the window wall, so hanging something that makes it the room look less heavy towards that side of the room would be ideal. 3 might be the key. Don’t go too small though, it’s a lot of wall
I think that finding art you that you love is more important than whether it is a triptych, a single large piece, etc.. Somehow it seems like the right piece of art finds us when we aren't trying so hard to find something that checks all the boxes.
I have been known to live with a blank wall until I find something that "speaks to me," and I have also used decor, usually stuff that I already had, (a grouping of baskets, rug as wall hanging...whatever strikes my fancy) as a placeholder until the right piece comes along, when the blank wall was too distracting to me.
You may not want to listen to me though...I am a crazy person who waits to hang art until it tells me where it wants to hang, and I rearrange my gallery wall if a new piece 'wants' to be there. When that happens, it means moving things around in other parts of the house as our collection grows, but I like changing things up now and then.
It's hard to say without seeing the rest of the space, but it kind of seems like the couch is a bit close to the corner and that end of the room seems furniture heavy. It probably looks more balanced when you see the whole thing, but more photos could help with seeing how art placement/size could work with what is there already.
Thank you all! I like the idea of 1 large piece. I didn't realize mimicking the cushions would make it seem busy. I totally agree, I just couldn't put my finger on it.
We have a mirror on the adjacent wall, so I don't think that will work for us, though I do love me a mirror!
