We had a nice day. My parents, sisters, and families came over for gluttony. We cooked a roast tenderloin, roasted veggies, sauteed green beans, mushrooms, and 2 kinds of potatoes (Nod to our Irish heritage and our love of carbs). It was tough to time everything and my oven is difficult, but it all turned out great.
The kids seemed happy. DD2 very carefully selected gifts for everyone, so she was very excited to give them out. It was so awesome to watch.
At bed time, i sent DD2 to brush her teeth. When I looked down, she was face down on the bathroom floor. Just taking a rest. Such a long day 😂.
I’m totally exhausted. We are doing absolutely nothing tomorrow.
I just woke up to the sounds of kids giggling and playing. Bowls of dry Lucky Charms are on the table, so they fed themselves breakfast. I’m hoping this means it’s going to be a good day.
And I just heard DS shush DD, saying “You’re going to wake up the parents!”
We had a great day. They slept until 7. I woke to dd smiling 2 inches from my face. We went to moms and ate way too much. Everyone was in a great mood and loved their gifts. I got my new quilt for my bed that looks like spring and I love it.
Usually it's kind of a letdown Christmas night, but its freakishly warm. I went for a walk and then we built a fire in the fire pit and I had some wine. Great end to the day.
We had a great day! I was worried it would feel chaotic with all the people I had shuffling in and out but it was a nice pace. ExH came over first thing to see the Santa gifts and them left until it was his time to get them for the afternoon. The kids loved their gifts and played really nicely after we opened them all. Dinner with beau and my family was good and everyone was out of my house by 4. Led to a very relaxing night. Beau spent the night and left before the girls came back this morning. Today the girls have been quietly crafting away with new projects and I'm putting the house back together.
Merry Christmas WPs! It was an okay day. DD had fun with my brother and they played snap circuit kit he got her all afternoon. I ended up getting a migraine by the end of the day and it has luckily backed off this morning as I'm back at work with DD in tow.
Merry Christmas! We had a really great couple of days.
Christmas Eve is almost my favorite, because it’s just the 5 of us all day. Rule was no phones or devices unless it was to find cookie recipes, track Santa or take pictures. So we spent the morning baking, and then delivered warm, delicious treats to our neighbors. Followed up by games and Christmas movies. Then we headed to town to ice skate, grab some dinner and then drive around to see the lights. Home just in time to set out cookies for Santa and get in bed. Sounds so cheesy, but that could have been my Christmas. It was such a perfect family day.
Christmas Day the kids were up at 6:30 and had everything open and playing with all their stuff by 7. In-laws came over at 9 and we had a great time with them for a few hours. I made a big brunch and they were gone by noon. At 2 we headed to my cousins and spent a few hours there and had a delicious dinner. Then, back home by 6 and spent the rest of the night watching Christmas movies and watching the kids play with their new toys.
Best Christmas in a long time. It’s getting so much easier to soak in and enjoy as the kids get older.

madringal, I had the same thought. Mine are still chaos in the kitchen (and I’m not much of a baker myself) but the holidays really are getting easier. At 5 and 8 I think this was our best yet.
It was busy though! DD1’s bday is on Christmas Eve and we had a big get together with H’s very large extended family a few hours away. It was a good time but sooo many presents and sooo much dessert and family craziness. We didn’t get home until 9 and so H and I started wrapping presents. Well, I wrapped presents while he exercised the dog who had been alone all day.
Next morning the girls let us sleep until almost 8, bless them, and were pleasant and pleased with their gifts. Then we headed over to my parents’ where we stayed, again, the entire day. It’s a smaller and more mellow holiday at their place but still a lot. The kids are exhausted still. It was a nice visit though and everyone got along. Also my dad bought me a new lock for the front door, peak dad gift. 😂 But I wanted one!
We don’t usually run around like that both days but it was nice that I wasn’t hosting anyone so I just surrendered to the mess and we dealt with it today.
