I think we may have a full size suitcase in the attic somewhere - I believe it’s currently being used to store books, since we cleared out most of our bookshelf when DD was born (it was in her room, previously a guest room, and we moved the shelf into the living room to make way for her dresser).
We each have a carry on and that’s what we use for travel. We don’t usually check bags unless MH is bringing back craft beer from somewhere. If we’re just doing a local weekend away then the three of us pack into one suitcase, or my big Vera Bradley duffel.
We haven’t taken DD on a plane yet. Hopefully by the time that happens she can manage at least a little backpack for herself.
Our suitcases were all purchased at TJ Maxx/Marshall’s, either by us or as gifts.
Too many for our family of 3. We have two large roller duffel bags. A 3 piece set of luggage we got as a wedding gift that is on its last legs. A number of back packs or duffels that we use also. We don't fly often but do take lots of weekend trips. I would say DD, the dog, and I share a large roller most of the time and DH likes his giant duffel he used when he swam. A large toddler can easily be in zipped into this duffel.
I've loan both my siblings luggage and also have bought inexpensive luggage sets for both of them as gifts so they would stop borrowing mine. Both siblings fly at least once a year for work so they really do need luggage and their work trips are always spur of the moment.
H and I were gifted two carry on size luggage pieces from my sisters for my bridal shower. That's all we still have 10.5 years later.
We just traveled by plane with DS for the first time this past October. We used one of said gifts for DS' clothes (must bring all the underwear & shorts....potty training is fun, said no one ever) and the other for H/me. And we had two backpacks.

I have a large one, but only because someone threw it out in the trash room of our apartment in the city. One of the wheels had broken off, so it’s not the most convenient but it’s fine. We rarely use it and have used it more frequently for moving than for travel (and now we don’t plan to move for 30+ years).
We have a few other suitcases. One we bought for our honeymoon, the rest were handed down because my mom decided to upgrade hers and passed hers down. Before that we always borrowed from her.

We have several full size and a carry on wheelie for each member of the family. Only 1 is a matching set, which is dh's, that I think I bought him back before we got married maybe?
We each have a carry-on. We share 1 medium and 1 large amongst our household. The large is very rarely used and would be more suited to a multi-week business trip since it’s basically impossible to pack it without going over 50 pounds.

Exactly this.
Same here. We have one small soft sided carry on with wheels that fits in all overhead compartments and another hard sided carryon with wheels that we gate check if we bring it.! DH and I can travel solo to a warm locale with either the medium suitcase or the two small carryons as well as a small travel backpack. The large suitcase only gets brought out when we’re taking the kids and all their crap on a big trip (or when my Sister borrows it lol).

This poll is making me realize how much we overpack. 🤦♀️ When our family of 4 goes to Disney for a week, we have 2 large suitcases, 1 medium suitcase, 2 carryons, snd each person has a personal item and/or backpack. There is no way we could get away with not having a large suitcase. Sorry for the tangent. Carry on. ETA- we fly southwest for the free bags

We both travel (air) for work frequently so we have a bunch of luggage - nearly a closet full. 3 full size, two carryon rollers, garment bag, golf bag, snowboard bag. Oh and a 3 piece set from H’s work line (not spinners so not used). I do a bunch of one night trips so I got a smaller carryon roller too.

Same. I've always been an over packer though. Ever since junior high when I only packed exactly what was needed for a trip to DC, then had to spend my souvenir money to buy clothes there because of an unexpected cold front.
I can't imagine 2 weeks in Europe with just a backpack!

And we are very much in the camp that it is better to have to buy the occasional item while traveling rather than carting 20lb of luggage around that we don’t need. We do tend to pack more on trips where we stay in one spot more, but it we are bouncing around I have no desire to pack up that much luggage. I also make everyone pack a hat an mittens on pretty much every trip because being cold is the worst. (This isn’t trying to sway you it’s just interesting how people pack differently).
We have 2 large suitcases, and DS recently inherited a large reinforced rolling backpack from his older cousin.
We have never brought a carry-on sized piece fo luggage when boarding a plane. Only backpacks and my purse or diaper bag. We check everything. I hate holding people up.
On off our suitcases gets used often for hospital trips. I put everything for me and DS in there. His school stuff that comes along with us now goes into the rolling backpack.
When we go on vacation as a family we fit everything into 1 or 2 large suitcases. I imagine one day we'll eventually need to adjust what we have because DS won't want his clothing combined with ours.

I'm the reverse, and actually had a nightmare a few nights ago about overpacking!
I used to overpack, but then having to lug the luggage around sucked (we had to stand in line at customs forever once, and my son's carry-on didn't have wheels or backpack straps, so we were constantly setting it down and picking it up every couple feet.) We also don't tend to stay in one place on a big trip. When we did five weeks in Europe, we hit eight different countries, using overnight trains to save on travel time. Packing up and moving that luggage every few days, using only buses, metro (subway), and trains for transportation, meant that we needed to be able to get in and out of things very easily. With just one carry on sized bag each (plus my purse and his laptop bag, no laptop, as personal items), we were able to move around very easily. Both carry ons could be carried as backpacks, so it made stairs easy. Otherwise, we'd use my carry on with wheels, set his carry on on top, and just roll it behind us.
It was a lot easier as he got older. The only mistake I've made (and regretted) is when I didn't bring an extra set of shoes to Rome (and it was miserably rainy, so we were constantly in wet socks and shoes). Still an enjoyable vacation, but would have been better with an extra set of shoes. Now I bring one old pair that is at the end of its life, and toss them before coming home.
When I go on a work trip and they pay for the bags, it's not on my dime to fix things if flights are delayed or something gets mixed up, and I'm not moving around often, I'm much more relaxed about checking a bag and overpacking a little.

I’m kind of obsessed with luggage. Like H once got me a suitcase for Valentine’s Day and it was what I wanted.
I have a carry-on, two duffels of different sizes and I’m currently eyeing a carry-on that meets international airline requirements. H is not an adult since he has to borrow from me*. 😉 We have a medium and a large suitcase for longer trips but at least one needs to be replaced. DD has a small roller suitcase or I pack her stuff in one of my duffels.
* Technically I guess it’s all “ours” but these pieces were gifted to me and I use them the most and I’m particular about them, so in my head, they’re “mine.”
