I am not surprised, but I do think I am starting to worry that there isn't more excitement around Warren. I want to see her as the candidate and to debate Trump, but I want people to feel strongly enough to get excited. I think it's the Trump rallies that worry me - he is such a gas-lighting liar to his followers, but it gets them riled up.

I’m not excited about any of the candidates. The flaw is that we have been conditioned to think candidates should be exciting.

I agree. I keep coming across the idea that Biden is a foregone conclusion. Yet I have yet to come across a single person who wants him. In my area I’ve seen lawn signs and bumper stickers for Bloomberg, Yang, Gabbard, Bernie, a lot for Warren. But not a single thing for Biden. And in discussions with various Democrat organizations (local, county, a few other regional types or issue specific groups I’m in, all of which have fairly diverse membership as far as age, race, socioeconomic status, etc) I have still yet to meet someone who is supporting Biden in the primary. I mean, I believe that he must have support somewhere by someone, but I’ve only heard people say he’ll win, but they aren’t voting for him in the primary.
Stein? I feel dumb, but did I miss something? And yeah, Tulsi can go any time. And last night Maddie mentioned Bennett. Did not realize he was still in it.

NPR seems all in for Biden and Bernie.
Ah, after the 16 election I stopped listening to them due to their role in Trump’s election. It’s bizarre that they would be so supportive of weak candidates.

Steyer! Whoops!
Ah. I wouldn’t put it past Stein to jump in as an independent, so I thought I’d missed something. I usually learn it here first.

I want to shout from rooftops: A VOTE FOR BIDEN IS A VOTE FOR TRUMP.
Burisma is going to take Biden down hard. Trump is going to get exactly what he wanted out of that call to Ukraine - Reelected.
No ExTrumpie fence sitter is voting for the guy "who does the almost same thing." He.Is.Not.Electable.

EXACTLY! People think a moderate will sway voters from Trump, but that will never happen. A moderate will alienate the base and not bring conservatives over.

Eh. The top 4 all have aspects that make them unelectable. Biden seems slightly better off than the other 3 to pull off a win in the GE against Trump, IMO.
Since I have no love for any of the candidates my vote will come down to who I think has the best chances of beating that monster. It will be a hold my nose type situation though. Getting out Trump is plenty excitement enough. It might be Biden though. 😬

This is where I sit. I'm not entirely sure who I'm voting for at this point, although I do know my primary vote will not go to Bernie.

this sounds distinctly Bro-like.
Eh. I just think he has a snowball's chance in hell of turning republicans or fence sitters. I'll vote for him in the general if he's the nominee (or Bernie. or Steyer. or a ham sandwich.) Burisma is going to be the next "Hillary's emails" added to the tepid voter enthusiasm of Kerry.
At this point, I'm hoping for a Warren/Castro ticket.

This exactly. And then I know the party will be all, "Well we TRIED nominated another moderate, old, white man, so what else can we really do?!"

Also, this isn't directed at his true supporters.
If you are voting for Biden in the primaries because you like him, then I'm all for it. You don't have to *love* him, but if he's genuinely the candidate you feel would make the best president, then bully for you.
But if you are voting for him in the primaries despite your convictions, because you think some on-the-fence semi-republican third person out there in the world will like him in the general election, then yeah, I think it's a foolhardy and shortsighted vote.
Here's where I get stuck with this. I'm not sure how to phrase this, so my apologies in advance if it's clumsy.
Black voters, especially those who are older, overwhelmingly poll for Biden again and again. I don't love him (he's currently my number 5 or 6 depending on who is still in the race,) and I would love to see a younger, non-male, non-white candidate in the general. But, it also feels super wrong for me to discount the voices of the very people who have been some of the most reliable supporters of the Democratic party for years. In trying to turn out one group (young progressives who, as we learned in the last election are not necessarily "vote blue no matter who"- see my students who voted for Johnson once Bernie was out or just didn't vote-) we could also be alienating another group (who, if 2016 shows, won't switch their votes to R, but just won't turn out- black women who voted did so overwhelmingly for Clinton, but their turnout went from 9% to about 7% of the electorate in 2016.)
I love that we have a big tent party; that means, I think, that the key is getting members of our own party to hold their noses and pull the lever like the Republicans do rather than trying to court the handful of mythical independents/swing voters who aren't stoked about the progressive policies. I suspect Trump will take care of them for us regardless of the candidate we put forth. For those few independents out there, this next vote, if they vote, will be one against Trump, rather than for the D candidate.

This is exactly why I've warmed up more to Biden than I otherwise would have, and why I've come around to some voters voting for him simply because they truly feel that he has a better shot at beating Trump. Basically, while he's not my #1 choice (though the verdict is out on whether I do vote for him or not since my primary is not until late April), I don't get angry when people say he would be the best option. Because those people I speak to who say that are primarily people of color and I'm not about to discount them when they have a lot more to lose/continue losing by another Trump win.

Some of it feels like 2nd wave feminism to me where some woke white women are all excited and are like, "Hey, everyone! This is what you need! This is what we're doing" while in the polls, at least, women of color are like, "Nope. That's not what we said at all."
