After their exchange, fellow Democratic candidate Tom Steyer, who had been standing behind the two senators, can be heard saying, "I don't want to get in the middle. I just want to say hi Bernie."
Here's a quote from Warren about her experience running for Senate in 2011: "Warren remembered the phone calls telling her, 'You can run, but you better understand: Massachusetts will not elect a woman to an office this big.' Those calls, she told me, 'were friendly calls. That was … the saddest part, the most infuriating part about these calls; they came from people who wanted to be kind but wanted to make sure that I understood the hard reality of America.'"
You know I’m normally ok with that phrase. except I’m so mad for her that hell no! She will discuss it when she wants to discuss it!!
This must be a political Rorschach test, because I thought the exchange made her look petty and childish, and read like political theater. He comes off looking professional. Right after a debate with hot mics is NOT the time to discuss this.

Of course you did.
I'm pretty sure this poster is just a troll who hates Warren. It's the same poster who shared the "news" about her supposedly having an affair with a 24 year old. Lol.
The NYT just tweeted out a clip of the editorial board’s interview with Sanders. They asked him about Trump’s election and racism. And he brought it back to economics and said people look for someone to blame when they are suffering economically. And while there is some truth to that, the US has a long history of racism that is so much bigger than economics. It’s disgusting to just sweep it all up as economics.
TW: sexual assault
The piece I posted about Evelyn Yang’s sexual assault is a related issue. She was a wealthy woman who was assaulted by a wealthy, respected doctor working at one of the best hospitals in the country. He didn’t assault women because of economic insecurity. Economic inequality is a serious issue, but it’s not the ONLY issue! I cannot with this man.

And this is why I bang on my drum about Bernie's racism, and the Bros and Bro allies always ignore, deny, or excuse away his racism. It got ignored in this thread when I asked, too. Acknowledge it, man. His supporters love Bernie. That's cool. Admit that this is his continued weakness, his ongoing screw-up. Expect better from him. Tell him, his campaign you expect better. Demand it. Call it out. I think my top choice is Elizabeth Warren now, but I have been so vocal in real life and with her campaign about her problematic af and entirely racist Native American DNA dumbassery and her harm to tribes early in her career.

I was equally aghast @angryharpy. I can’t figure out if he truly believes this (that everything comes back to economic inequality), or if that’s just his automatic response, especially when it comes to tough issues that he has no clue how to address: RACISM.(or a mixture of the two but his ego will never allow him to admit, even to himself, that he’s not the all-knowing, greatest problem-solver of all, who could fix everything)

Because he marched or something with MLKjr., so he can't be racist.

YES. No candidate is perfect. I think Elizabeth Warren is definitely the best candidate in this race for a number of reasons. I do not think she handled the DNA test thing well. I am not going to tell a Native person who doesn’t like her to just get over it. I think that, on the whole, she is the best candidate in this race, and I think she would make a good president. I am optimistic that her partnership with Julian Castro will push her on Native issues, but I understand why Native people distrust her. I’m not going to try to make excuses for her problems in this area.

This has been my issue with him since he ran in 2016. Does he think he'll fix racism by fixing the economy?

And I'm pretty sure he didn't, that he was involved in some protests in Chicago as a college kid, so there's that. But that narrative? is a racist one they use because it appropriates Dr. King who isn't a prop to give Bernie cred. I feel like they think black people want to hear that story.

Really good op-ed about why YES it does matter that Warren is a woman, and why it would matter to elect a woman, period. (The author is a black woman.)
"Anyone who has ever served on a committee charged with hiring candidates who bring some diversity to a place understands how things go when the white guy who meets all the criteria (because he has had structural access to all the privileges that would help him meet all the criteria) is up against a promising woman or person of color who is very good but falls down in a few categories. Or conversely she’s the best, but the standards as written and understood make hiring her seem like too much of a risk. Hiring committees often struggle with what feels to them like the fundamental unfairness of allowing a candidate’s diversity to put them over the top. Many (white) members of these committees see this as a sullying of (a mythic) meritocracy in a way that disadvantages white men. But first, they have to believe that the man in question received all his qualifications on the merits and not because of structural privileges. I expect people on the progressive and radical left, those who claim to understand how intersectionality works, to know better, but they aren’t acting like they do.
"Wanting a woman to rise to the top of an almost all-male pack is not a position that needs defending. What should be defended is the uncritical desire to elect yet another man to a position that 45 men and zero women have held. That choice, to choose another man for President, should be held up to the strictest scrutiny and the highest standard. Gender alone is not a sufficient qualification to be President (though I can think of a few recent Presidents for which this seems to be the only qualification they had). But I am convinced that it should offer an edge in a situation where no cisgender women, trans people or gender nonbinary people have ever had a position."

Donald Trump had a black girlfriend once. He's still racist af. Bros/Bro-allies would agree. So why they won't just own Bernie's racism, I don't know. Bernie literally said black people should just respect police so they don't get shot in the head. This isn't a problem for [the general] y'all?

I have never liked Sanders precisely for that reason. He brings everything back to economics and ignores the problem of racism. Reading this interview I like him even less. When asked how he would get legislation passed if McConnell still controls the Senate, he keeps saying that he sees the world differently and he is going to bring his plans out to the people and with their support he will pass things. Kind of like his mayoral time but on a grander scale. Sorry buddy, but governing doesn't work that way. He also claims that climate change is very important and he will start off on that straight away. But then after that he says he will travel all across the country to talk to the people. So what about all the pollution he is causing there? Not to mention the costs for all the cities he will visit that the taxpayers will end up paying for.

Same reason Trump's defenders will defend everything he does even if they think Hillary should be locked up for supposedly doing the same thing. it's a cult and he's their leader. It's become part of their identity and they've taken on an us/them attitude towards anything that could be construed negative. He's just the flip side of Trump, as are his die-hard supporters.

I don’t know what to say about this:
DTJ: They are rigging the election again against Bernie Sanders, just like last time, only even more obviously. They are bringing him out of so important Iowa in order that, as a Senator, he sit through the Impeachment Hoax Trial. Crazy Nancy thereby gives the strong edge to Sleepy...

@neworleans and @angryharpy - I am not telling you to forgive Warren for her past Native American issues, but in my tiny enclave of friends - those who are Democrats and women NA are squarely behind Warren no question. Last fall she came out with a plan about missing indigenous women, and federal underfunding on tribal lands and a few other items and they prefer her.
Obviously not all First Peoples, but many. I encourage you to chat with any you may know about their view. There are also a lot of younger First Peoples who were at Standing Rock and who are male who like Bernie. So I can’t speak for even all my friends and acquaintances.

Blerg. He says this to fire up the Bros into another tantrum, to make us all fight more. It will work.
And I feel like the difference between Bernie supporters, not just bros, and me is that I would show up for Bernie even when he was never my choice, but they will stay home. And they did. Or vote for Trump. Because they did. This might make me a self-righteous asshole, but I just don’t believe they are willing to meet in the middle. I know why— the middle is not their belief. But damn.

This doesn’t seem like a particularly Bernie-ish tweet but i do appreciate the sentiment.
If you can’t read it - he quoted Trump’s tweet and replied, “ Let’s be clear about who is rigging what: it is Donald Trump’s action to use the power of the federal government for his own political benefit that is the cause of the impeachment trial. Democrats are going to unite to sweep him out of the White House in November.”

Joy Reid has a body language expert on right now who is analyzing the exchange with Warren after the debate and pointing out various non-verbal clues that he's lying/ deflecting.

I do appreciate that he responded directly to that. His supporters need to hear him say that, especially the "democrats need to unite" part, after his antics in 2016.
Also, while it was easy for him to cry "rigged" in 2016, there were what, like 24 candidates originally in this primary? Plenty of choices, so if you lose this time, Bernie, it's because people didn't vote for you. Again.

I feel like he’s doing this for two reasons- one to fire Bernie supporters up into fighting more so if Bernie isn’t the nominee, they are furious and two to make non-Bernie supporters not trust Bernie so that if he is the nominee, they are less enthused for him.
downtoearth, I am all in on Warren at this point, so the NA issue is not enough to keep me from voting for her. Mostly I don’t think it’s my place to forgive her, if that makes sense. It’s not a dealbreaker for me personally, but I don’t think it would be my place to tell a Native person to just get over it.

Cool story bro....but if you’re not the nominee will you truly support that nominee or keep being that annoying gnat buzzing in our ears?
