What is everyone doing this weekend? Who has a 3 day weekend with MLK day on Monday?
I'm doing very little all weekend. The weather is supposed to be rainy and nasty so I think Saturday will be a pj day. We are celebrating my mom's and brother's b-day Sunday afternoon so I don't have to cook dinner!
DD looks so tired. I'm hoping having a low key weekend means she can get some extra rest. Trying to get her to take a nap is so hard even when she is tired. Working Monday, DD has to have sealants redone in the morning and then she is hanging with me at work.
We are doing very little over the weekend as well. Nasty weather is supposed to come in here with snow, freezing rain and regular rain so should be fun.... not.
DS has a basketball game on Sat. Sun he has baseball practice if he wants to go which he probably won't because he wants to watch the football playoff games. Might go to the neighbors for that- not sure since the husbands have been texting and no one tells me anything.
I'd love to do more to get out of the house, but that is pretty weather dependent, so who knows.
Dd had youth group and a sleepover tonight and Ds has a bonfire at a friends house. Dh and I are going to take advantage of this and go out for sushi and a couple of beers.
The rest of the weekend is low key. I hope to get onto something tomorrow, but it is supposed to be freezing Sunday and Monday. We are all off Monday, so I have some wine and things to cook like chili, so I hope to hibernate.
We were supposed to ski the local mountain Monday but My oldest son has the flu. He woke up with a fever at 4am and I came home this afternoon to stay with him and read an article about a healthy teenager who died from flu B. So I got worried and took him to the dr. 7 hours after symptoms presented he’s diagnosed but they didn’t prescribe tamiflu. They said it doesn’t do much, it only cuts off 1 day and too many side effects in kids.
My husband got called into work overnight and I have a big run tomorrow. He’s going to get home JUST in time for me to drive up there 90 mins, run for like 4-5 hours, eat, drive back and then he goes back to work.
At least we have no more practice or bday party to go to Saturday. I will enjoy some chill time as long as no one else gets it. Well I have 3.5 sick days till July so we will see how this all pans out.
Tonight we have family night. And I have a whole Friday night relaxation ritual involving a hot bath, a face mask, and an episode of the Crown to loom forward to.
We will go see 1917 sometime this weekend. And we are taking our ungrateful bratty kids skiing on Monday. I don’t know why we bother when they have such bad attitudes, but alas that is what we shall do. It’s currently dumping in the mountains so the skiing should be good and the weather is supposed to be delightful on Monday. Kids will get over the trauma of being forced to ski in world class mountains in fresh powder.

DS has baseball practice tonight and DD has an Odyssey of the Mind practice. Tomorrow the only thing planned is a softball clinic for DD from noon-2 pm, unless it gets canceled. We're supposed to get 5-8" of heavy, wet snow tonight and a few more inches tomorrow.
There is a lot of clutter, so I'm going to work on that tomorrow. Sunday is church and then I may drive over to a family gathering for my cousins whose mom passed away earlier this week.

DS has hockey practice at 7 a.m. on both days, which means he'll need to be up and out of the house by 6:15. Fun times.
Two ladies from my book club are bringing their kids over for a play date tomorrow afternoon. One of my new year resolutions is to find play dates for DD with kids whose parents *I* want to hang out with; so that's the first step. Then we'll go swimming and have a family movie night.
We’ve been dealing with childcare issues all week related to the two boys having the flu (and DS2 also having an ear infraction). But assuming that DH, DD, and I stay healthy (I think it’s possible DD is getting a little sick), DD and I are going on a little girls trip this weekend to Los Angeles.
The plan is to leave tomorrow, stop at a little arcade/fun zone on the way, hang at the hotel pool, go to a planetarium show in Griffith Park (where La La Land was filmed), then Sunday go to a pop up museum exhibit that looks cool, and a shop where she can decorate a cake (she loves the British Baking show). I tried to plan a 7-year-old girl’s exciting weekend.
campermom we also didn’t do Tamiflu. Apparently it can have nasty side effects and our kids are comfortable enough on Tylenol/Motrin.
Tonight I stopped by the opening party for beau's new restaurant, which was fun but brief since it required a last minute auntie babysitter. Glad I got to go support him though.
The girls have 4H on Sunday. Supposed to be cold and snowy so I'm really hoping it gets cancelled. Do not want to stand in a barn in that.
Monday we are all off so we are going to the movies with beau and his son.
All these flu stories are crazy! A bunch of kids at school have gotten it too, even some that got the flu shot. I hope all the sick kids are better soon!

We got invited to go bowling, but we are all messes. DH's elbow was hurting, my head hurts and I'm exhausted, and both kids were exhausted too. We are supposed to get snow followed by ice tonight, a high of almost 50 tomorrow, then a high of 16 on Sunday. I dont even know what to think of the roller coaster forecast.
Tomorrow night we are going to a company dinner for one of DH's part time jobs. Its usually a good time so I'm looking forward to it. Before we go I need to get started on laundry and finish putting away last weekends laundry.
Our plan for Sunday is to finish unpacking and organizing our mudroom/play room. I need to go to an electronics store and get stuff to get my office set up a little more. Also need to repair the new shower. DH's bff was helping us put the door on and cracked a tile. It was a whole tile at least and not one that had been cut. He felt terrible but it really could have happened to anyone.

We all had the flu shot this year. I have to admit though....I have never had the flu and no one in my family ever has. So I don’t know what to expect but he has slept all day long except to go to the dr.
twinmomma and campermom, we all had the flu shot too - in fact everyone I know who’s gotten the flu had also gotten the shot (likely because everyone I know gets the shot . We also have never had the flu before. I will say that it’s more mild than I expected, and that could be because of the shot. DS2’s fever never went above 99.5. Both kids seem pretty comfortable on a couple doses a day of Tylenol and Motrin. I think I expected puking and chills and stuff, but so far it’s just been mild fevers and a lot of snot.
It’s weird because DD had the flu got Tamiflu (luckily no issues) and went back to school 2 days later. DH didn’t get Tamiflu and was sick for 2-3 weeks. Maybe he had something different, but we were assuming it was the same thing. We all had the flu shot too.
2 weeks later he is sick again. I forced him to the doctor this time just a regular cold but they gave him a prescription for comfort and now he has what I assuming is a stomach virus although I guess it could be flem in the stomach. He’s a mess and he’s only been healthy for 2 weeks. He gets sick not the kids so it’s not even them giving it to him. Also he’s driving me crazy.
I think it affects people differently. It’s almost 5 am Saturday and with the exception of the Dr appt and a shower he has been asleep since he went to bed Thursday night. His temps are around 101-102 and he’s been on motion and acetaminophen. He’s also got the chills pretty bag but no vomiting.
My FFC: we purposely did not get flu shots this year or last. Every other year we got them, and my kids reacted - hives, fevers, huge welts at the injection site. And then later they would get the flu anyway, and they’d be in bed for a week, so no reduction in severity. So it’s scary to not get the shot, but I figure I’m saving the awful reaction that is guaranteed to go with it since we are likely to get the flu anyway.
This weekend is quiet. DH and I snuck out for a date night last night. We’ve been a little out of sync so I’m glad we caught up. Today we are taking the kids to an indoor mini golf place that’s all day-glo and black lights, then to lunch, and home before snow starts later. Tomorrow DD2 has basketball and my co-coach won’t be there, so DD1 will help me. Then I’m going to try and see my parents. Monday I don’t know. Kids are off, DH was planning to work but most of his clients are off so he might not?
Yay!!! DHS new gadget came that will turn his bike into a stationary bike. This should help his foot (planter facetious) and get his workouts back on track until spring and he can get back outside.
We.. don’t usually get flu shots. They aren’t very effective and DD will only agree to them if she’s being sedated anyways, and now that we’re once a year, the timing doesn’t work out. I’ve dealt with holding her down too much to fight her over a vaccination that is hit or miss results at best.
We do all scheduled vaccinations otherwise, but I just can’t work up enough reasons for the flu shot.
We always mean to get the flu shots. And like this year almost always forget. Then I’m in a panic for all of flu season. Buts it’s a total pain to get an appointment to go in just for the kids’ shots. Why can’t they just do them at CVS like they do for adults?
We don’t always do annual flu shots. But I do when pregnant or when we have a newborn in the house. Also every year that we fly to the east coast for the holidays - since I figure we’re dealing all the time on planes and different germs. So this year everyone got them.

DD1 hates needles. So we’ve done the nasal vaccine instead the last 2 years.

No flu shots for me or the kids. (DH got one because he had to for work.) If you look up the effectiveness on the CDC website, it's always around 50% or less each year, so it's not worth it. And it takes your immune system down for 2-3 weeks, which means you are more susceptible to getting sick during that time. I just work trying to keep our immune systems strong - making sure we eat fruits and veggies, drink a lot of water, get good rest, and take vitamin C and elderberry syrup.

The kids have done the flu shot, but H and I have not unless we get it on a day they are doing it at our office. This year I missed my chance because I was traveling the day they did it. I don't know if DH got his or not this year.
