It really blows when you go to the movies and there's NO POPCORN! I even budget calories for movie day, dammit!
This is the second time in recent memory that a movie theatre didn't have popcorn to sell. THAT'S THE WHOLE FREAKING POINT, PEOPLE!
WHAT? That is like going to the Dairy Queen and them being out of ice cream.
That sucks. Yesterday was 50% off popcorn day in our area at Regal theaters (US wide too? IDK) and it looked like the supply was getting really low while we were waiting in line. It was making me nervous lol

It was National Popcorn Day yesterday.
We went to the movie yesterday, fully intending to have popcorn but the line was crazy long, and we were still kind of full from lunch. We thought we would have some later at home, but by the time we got home from the movie and errands, it was time to feed the dogs snd make dinner, so we never got around to it. FWP
I took DD to a bowling play date today and other than a few kids, it’s all senior citizens. Bowling seems so old timey these days!
Yes. It’s super popular down here. The weekends are hard to find bowling times Bc it’s all bowling leagues, all day. All ages too. X was in a league for a short time when he was in kindergarten, but he switched to soccer.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

My H and I bowl in a league on Sunday nights. Our third teammate is 22. My step-son bowls on a team and he’s 16. My brother also bowls in a league with his 40-something friends. There are certainly some older folks, but at least around here, it’s still fairly popular for all ages.

doctoranda that sucks, and I'm sorry. Any chance your dad just isn't thinking about how much of a difference there is in travel for you guys? I have flat-out said to friends before when considering locations for trips "I will meet you on this trip if you go to X or Y, but Z is too hard/expensive for me to get to for this" because I live the farthest away, and they just don't think about it. In any case, I'd try telling your dad about your concerns and that it makes you sad to think he'd rather just cancel the trip than find a compromise, so you're hopeful you can find a location that works for all of you. And then if he's a jerk oh well, at least you tried.
2 more in law complaints and then I'm done because they leave soon.
1. They will NOT stop talking about how my son is SOOOOOOOO smart **just like** my husband.
A. Omg. Do not golden son my boy. My husband was the genius golden son and so was my brother (according to my own grandparents and father). My girl is wonderful and smart and worthy and she has functioning ears. I'm not going to go through generation 2 of male favoritism.
B. HE HAS A MOTHER. My husband and I met at the same law school. Am I on glue or is that maybe indicative of me not being only a vessel to grow a genius clone of my husband?
2. My kids FIGHT. Both are competitive. Neither gives in. One or the other of them will mention after every scuffle "randomly" some anecdote about my niece and nephew or my husband and SIL playing so nicely together.
A. I see you. I am not fooled by these apparently spontaneous stories.
B. I'm fucking working on it. Okay? Unfortunately for the harmony of my home, both of my kids are stubborn mules who each think they have the best idea. I promise we're not grooming them to be assholes forever. We discipline. I do not think being yelling jerks is okay. But THEY ARE KIDS. We have some time!
DH and I went to see Just Mercy this afternoon and I cried so much my eyes are puffy and I feel like I need to go to sleep now. Such a touching, impactful movie.
And to lighten things up, I took my dog for a walk when we got home, in the 30 degree breezy cold night, and twice he acted like he was going to poo and didn't. Really? Really dog?? It's a good thing you are cute.
My ss got his learner’s permit and I took him driving today. Omg! Now I know how mother felt when my brother and I started driving. I just took him on some backroads in our neighborhood and he did ok. But he did almost run into a parked car. He needs some more lessons with his driving instructor before we venture out on the arterials.
I’d like to preface this with the statement that H is a wonderful father and a very equal partner in the work of our household.
HOWEVER.
He’s home with DS in the mornings and can get, like, one chore done in that time. Meanwhile I’ve had DS with me 100% of the time the last few days, and I’ve done 4 loads of laundry, cleaned the entire downstairs, deep cleaned the kitchen, firebombed our bathroom, gone grocery shopping, wrapped presents for birthdays & baby showers. All of this occurred before noon on said days.

cville we don't have kids but my ILs also always talk about what a genius DH is. It feels weird. We did not go to the same law school or anything but we both have PhDs and are both professors.
There is a lot of favoritism in his family going on too regarding him and his bother. So sad.
emilyinchile thanks for the advice. I will tell my dad as you suggested! He is not a jerk, but his wife sometimes is so we'll see what happens.
