You know how there's all the politicking, hustling, and jockeying behind the scenes? Do you think Romney is hustling to get other people on his side, or nah?

My guess is no simply because removal requires more than a simple majority and there’s no way there are enough Rs to do that who care about norms and country above themselves. I think Romney cares about his place in history and his own conscience. I also think he is uniquely insulated from Trump fallout. So yes, I’m impressed and surprised but the bar is pretty low here. That said, being the only Senator to ever vote to convict a member of your own party is a reasonably big deal even if it was never going to matter in the end.
The White House abruptly cancelled a planned pool spray between Trump and Venezuelan opposition leader Guaido moments after Romney began his speech announcing his intent to vote to convict.
A WH official said Romney's announcement did not impact the decision to scrap the photo opportunity in the Oval Office. The official said the decision to cancel the spray came before Romney began to speak.
Me, too. He’s the first senator to ever vote to convict a president of their own party.
You know, I have no doubt some Republicans would have voted to convict Nixon. Because at that point, some part of the GOP still had a small shred of integrity.

See, it's not going to hurt Romney. His constituents will probably respect him for it. Utah obviously went for Trump - despite their hemming and hawing they were always going to vote for Trump, like good Republicans - but 1) they had a high percentage of third party votes (McMullin, I think), and 2) they held their nose to do it. 100% most Republicans in Utah would much prefer Pence in office. And the love Mitt Romney to paradise and back. There are really no repercussions for him.
I doubt ANY GOP senator is that well-liked or insulated from this decision. Except the M*F*ers who are retiring, goddammit.

While I'm not at all surprised by the final outcome I'm still really sad and angry. Actually, at the moment I feel more sad than angry because everything seems so futile.
I'm now that person that when i lay down to sleep at night I wish that I will wake up with a text alert that McConnell and/or Trump died. Democracy feels very dead.

When Hillary lost, I told my kids not to worry, our government has lots of checks and balances, he won't be able to get away with things. Clearly I was wrong.

Jr is already saying Romney needs to be kicked out of the GOP. There is no way #45 will just ignore this.
Sooooo any bets on how long it takes for Bolton to do a prime time interview where he drops even more evidence of 45*’s guilt? I’m guessing less than a week.

I knew how this was going to go, and I still feel so defeated. I don't know that I can manage another 4-20 years of feeling this...down? defeated? mad?...all the time. There is a dark cloud over the last 3 years that feels unmanageable much longer.
Do the Dems have a chance of taking back the Senate in November? And who should I be throwing my money at?
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Good, good. The Republicans can get back to business on cheating in the next election.
Of course, y4m will probably run a search of how many times the word cheat appears in the campaign websites and conclude there is no cheating and then KOKO voting for Republicans except Trump.

What took you so long to get to that level with us?!
So can we still legit call him impeached president or not since it was overturned?
Yes, because he was impeached. Just like Bill Clinton is still an impeached president.
The Senate didn't technically overturn the impeachment, they voted not to convict.
In the Presidential exhibit at the Smithsonian, there is a section about impeached presidents. It gives me some please to know that he will be added to the exhibit.

At one point during the SOTU when he was holding himself up and slurring I said to my BF “Wouldn’t it be great if he just dropped dead right now?” I felt kind of bad about that thought but that’s where I’m at now.
