I had really bad acne as a teenager and through most of my 20s. I went on Accutane as a teenager and tried ecerything- facials, every face wash, many different prescribed antibiotics and gels, birth control.
I can't remember why I initially stopped drinking milk but once I did my skin cleared up 100%. It's honestly such an incredible difference, it's hard to overstate. When I have milk in my coffee or something I get a small breakout but nothing compared to what it was like when I was drinking milk. Cheese and yogurt don't seem to have any effect.
Cutting milk is so easy and if it has half the effect it did with me you will be so happy you gave it a shot. Best of luck!!

I've always been curious if I had kids if they'd have any issues from my previous Accutane use? At 16 they wouldn't prescribe it unless I was on the pill...but I was a virgin so...Thankfully I never had the mental health side effects I've heard about, but the dry skin, the low stamina, having to test my cholesterol every 6 weeks...at 16...was plenty. I swear I don't wear contacts anymore because of that stupid medicine. Anyway this is why I have so many issues with internals. Also having permanent sterilization should be enough birth control. I understand there are so many issues if it's taken during pregnancy they have to cover themselves, but enough is enough.
I'll buy the other Mario B lotion. I swear my Derm wrote down drying lotion twice, which is why I bought the pink one...only to find out it's not working the way everyone on GBCN raves about.
Finally, I can't believe how much cheese I eat. I was trying to be more conscious yesterday. Trying to take the high road that if I give mostly dairy free a shot I might eat a little better, which hopefully could lead to a pound or two of weight loss.

They also pushed doxycycline after I went off of Spiro, but that seemed weird to me to go from a once a day to twice a day med when I couldn't tolerate the first one, although it was a different medicine. I took tetracycline in 7th grade, but it made me sick every morning, so I'm afraid to go back on antibiotics. Plus I don't remember it working all that well. I'm sure it's specific to each person, but a lot of people here said they don't really work on acne.
My biggest frustration with the derm is that they throw a lot at you with no written instructions, then get mad when you come back for a follow up not following directions. I have to call today to confirm when to use dapzone (topical) twice a day while reintroducing Trentoin (sp?) because I thought I was supposed to quit that one? It feels like it shouldn't be so complicated, use this at this time, the end.
They keep pushing going back on birth control pills. I was on it most of my life like 16 to 36 maybe? While it would prob help my periods I like not being on a lot of meds, and I don't want to grow another fibroid, although I don't know if that was the cause. I'm overweight and my blood pressure isn't perfect. Under those circumstances have they raised the age limit for women to use bcp's to over 35?
I’m almost 40 and on continuous BCP. I don’t have any other risk factors but my dr always tells me I can stay on my Bcp pretty much forever. I love it. It’s the only thing that truly helped my cystic acne and it also helps migraines being on it continuously. I hope I’m not told I’m too old to be on it at some point because I’m sure I’ll still be dealing with acne!
The only other thing that helped me in conjunction with Bcp is using a Clarisonic. I swear by it. The Bcp helped a lot but I’d still get some breakouts. Once I started using the Clarisonic they completely went away. Now I know when I need a new brush head because I’ll get a breakout. But as soon as I replace and use, the breakouts will fade my quicker than they used to. It amazes me how much it helped my skin when years of derm visits, countless creams and pills never did anything.
