3 hours of sleep last night and I still haven’t had coffee The party was great, there were probably about 50-60 people there. He was definitely surprised I was there. Everyone said wonderful things about my SO which made me feel super lucky to have him as my partner.
Now counting down till 9pm when I get home and fall into bed!
tripleshot, I think your getaway birthday weekend is perfect. I did something similar for DH's 50th last year and he still says it's his favorite vacation he's been on (and we take a lot of vacations). Have fun!!
We have a new estimating software program at work (I'm a project manager in construction) and I just cannot wrap my brain around it. I keep trying to practice in it and play around in it and I just end up getting frustrated. Our drop-dead go-live date is 3/2 and I am stressing the fuck out over it.

Does anyone know if I need to check in online 24 hours in advance for my United flight Saturday morning? We always fly southwest and that’s how they do it. We picked our seats and paid extra for priority boarding, so maybe we just wait until we get to the airport to check in at the counter? Or do we have to go to the counter if we aren’t checking bags and can just check in on the app?
DH and I are going to the FL Keys Saturday morning-Monday night to celebrate his 40th birthday. It will be 7* when we leave Cleveland and 80 in the Keys. I can’t wait. I feel like I should’ve done more for his birthday but an unplanned expensive trip plus gift certificates for a massage and sushi was all I could muster. He couldn’t come up with anything that he wanted, so that’s what he gets. I’m just mentally exhausted from planning and organizing our daily life I didn’t have it in me to plan anything over the top. I did arrange for the resort to decorate the room and have cupcakes waiting.
This sounds like An amazing birthday gift! I would give anything for a warm vacation right now!

What’s the software?
Trimble Autobid. It's lovely and the features are great, but there is so much set up in the beginning before you can even start take off. Our old program, you just loaded the drawings in and away you went. This is a lot more sophisticated (which is amazing), but so much more time consuming.

If you're not checking bags you can just check in on the app. You don't HAVE to 24 hours ahead but I usually do just to have it done and make sure my seat is right.
My H is starting a new job next month. They offered it to him basically as we were leaving the country on vacation, and he accepted pretty quickly because he was excited about it. It actually comes with a raise, and sounds like a good opportunity, so yay. But, it turns out that we missed that he only gets 15 vacation days (he had 18 before) and apparently they make you use PTO for jury duty, which he has within 2 weeks of starting the new job. We thought that sick time was wrapped into that too, but he verified today that he gets 1 sick day per month, so that's good at least. Anyway, I'm frustrated with the amount of PTO to begin with but if he has to burn some of it for jury duty I'm going to be pissed. We like to travel and all of our family and friends are out of state, so we need a decent amount of time off in order to live our lives. I feel like he doesn't even have 1 day to spare for jury duty, and what if he ends up on a trial? Uggg. I hope that if it comes down to it, he can take some days unpaid later in the year.
I found out something pretty big yesterday. It's in the early stages, but I am on the path to a grant for my startup. Eek. I have a startup. It's in its absolute infancy, but I feel pretty good about this news!
I also interviewed for an amazing job in my old home away from home. Idk how they felt, but I thought it was really good.
The dark spot is DD is being cranky and won't fall asleep. Usually she naps great but the last few days have been more difficult. My baby is growing up 😿
I'm enjoying a quiet house while my MIL and SIL are off at MIL's medical appointments all day. I don't know how I always forget that my MIL will.not.shut.up. the entire time she is here.
After lunch I'm heading out to get my roots colored, and I'm not entirely sure when they'll be back, so I'm going to go dawdle at Home Goods and Ulta, maybe even go read in the library for an hour just to keep up with my alone time.
Thankfully my H is taking tomorrow off so he can do his mom's taxes, and I think I'm going to go to the gym, then go run a bunch of errands.
I need to renew my driver's license by next Saturday. decided ok I'll go ahead and upgrade to a real ID while I am at. Pull out my passport, it's expired. Fantastic. Manage to come up with hopefully enough other documents to make up for that, a little tricky because all the utilities are in DH's name and I don't have any recent mail and blah blah blah. Finally make it to the DMV this morning, surprise! The system is down for who knows how long. They don't have it posted anywhere so there's no way to have known ahead of time. Are you kidding me? I wasted valuable pre work time driving and standing in line for 15+ minutes before I found out what was going on. So frustrating. At least I have all my documents together now?
It’s been a rough week for a lot of reasons. My toddler needs to go on a “my toddler from hell...” reality show.
Today I had an event with my little from 9 to 10:15, we ran a quick errand then went to a lunch with friends down 11 to 1:30. I’m too much of an only child for that kind of constant people interaction. I’m tired and I have a headache.
So I went to see my big boss about a work issue, but we got discussing other things and then it came out that he basically doesn't have an emergency fund. OMG I was like "that makes me very nervous." His wife is a SAHM and they have 2 kids in college, but yikes. I can't imagine being 7 years from retirement with no emergency fund. He also said he's behind on retirement too.
On the one hand, I'm glad we can have these types of discussions about money, but man, I feel a lot better about how we're doing ourselves.
Oh and DH's raise was 4.25%! Woot! I told him we need to start funneling more to savings/investments.

I sort of feel like in Maryland your employer doesn’t even have to pay you or let you take PTO for jury duty; they can make you take a completely unpaid day. I haven’t heard of an employer doing either before though.
Things are getting easier day by day with out my kitty. I went and rode my horse last night and he was, well not a complete angel, but was fairly good and it was an easy no stress ride.

He looked it up and it sounds like he'd have to use PTO first. I think the whole thing is BS - my employer doesn't make us use PTO and just pays you anyway. I know mine is more generous than most when it comes to time off, but I guess I just assumed that most professional level jobs worked the same way. It's not your fault that you have jury duty! But the state doesn't mandate it apparently.
I've never had jury duty before my current employer, though, so I don't know what's standard elsewhere.

I just caught up on what happened to his old boss, wow! I'm glad he found something else. 3 weeks of vacation doesn't seem bad, especially for where he is in his career, but I understand your frustration.

We switched to In8 last year and it took our team forevvvvver to get it all set up correctly. I hope the learning curve gets better!

Idk, I always thought one of the perks of working in academia was geneous time off! My university gives me 25 days plus we have 4-5 more holidays than he does, so it seems kind of stingy to me. Especially given the 8 years of training it took to get to this point, so its not really the same as an entry level job.
But, I think US leave policies in general are frustrating so there is that, too. I think everyone in any job should get at least 4 weeks off!

Yeah, I’ve never had a paid day off in my life (admittedly I took 12 years mostly out of the workforce for @@@ related reasons) despite having a degree and working in my field. If I get a full time job in my current organization I’ll be starting at 5 vacation days per year, would go to 10 days at 5 years of full time work. Paid vacation is not the norm at all anymore IMO. H now has 20, at 6 years post PhD. He’ll go up to 25 if he hits his 20th anniversary with his company.

IDK what field you are in, but 5 days is ridiculous - unless it's a part time job or you can take unpaid time off whenever you need to? If this is a full time job where you are expected to be present every day the other 51 weeks of the year, I think you should look for a job at another organization. I don't think that's the norm at all for full time professional level jobs!
I'm less worried about the pay for time off (which is very lucky that I can say that) and more about the flexibility.

It’s a living history museum (think small scale Williamsburg with far far less funding) and the only one within hours of where I live. Very niche field. It’s 5 days for a full time employee. As a part timer I have no paid time off (except the NJ mandated sick pay). The thing that saves it is that our work week is Wednesday through Sunday most of the year, but you can usually arrange to work Monday and/or Tuesday if you’re off over the weekend to avoid using days off and do other creative things like that to flex time. But mostly you have to really love it to put up with it. The truth is, I’ve worked in a few other small museums and all have 5 days off, and low pay, it’s the nature of small historical sites.

That stinks. I feel like places that are passion jobs often take advantage of the fact that people will put up with whatever they are given. I really dislike that mindset. Employees are your best resource, treat them like it!
I honestly don't care how much I love a job, I need more time off than that. What keeps me going is being able to take trips for fun and also to see family. I would find another field if low PTO was the norm where I worked.
