2. For things with stretch (and I LOVE me some stretch), I buy highest end I can afford. A ponte skirt at Old Navy will never hold up as well as a ponte skirt from Boden (which a poster recently said is just a store for 40 year old academics. RUDE).
They never lived in London - definitely worn by more than 40+ yr olds! But also fabulous quality a lot of times. I have several things from Boden.
I'm a dress and skirt kind of person, so I own mainly those as my bottoms, with sweaters in the autumn/spring/winter (and sometimes summer, cause, London) or with t-shirts and cardigans. I have two pairs of black trousers that are very basic but good and thick, and I can wear jeans to work once in a while (so I have some nice ones).
I wear boots more often than not in the winter, so I spend good money on those.
In winter I usually wear dark wash jeans or black ponte pants with a cashmere or merino wool sweater, and either black leather riding boots or black leather ankle boots.
In the summer I wear a lot of linen and cotton dresses, put my hair up, and put on a pair of dangly statement earrings. Looks fancy, feels cool and comfy.
For the in-between seasons I layer a lot with light jackets. I have a jean jacket and a leather jacket that are staples.
Since wool, silk, cashmere, leather, etc. are expensive and I don't have an unlimited clothing budget I buy most of my clothes secondhand from Poshmark and eBay.
I have never used poshmark but am contemplating it - have decided I want to buy more used clothes for environmental reasons. Do you have an invite code you want to share?
jamaicam I don't think you need an invite code. Just sign up I find it a bit overwhelming and best when I plug in specific brands to search for.
I've been shopping on there more for environmental reasons as well. I won't buy new unless its underwear, running shoes, socks, or bras. Everything else, I check Poshmark and local thrift stores first.

I will do - I was just wondering if it was one of those if you refer me, you get credit or something like that!
I just took 4 pairs of trousers and 2 dresses to the tailor. I've lost some weight and so they didn't fit well, but before going shopping I decided it was better to spend the money having old things made to fit me.

Love Poshmark. I tend to stick to brands/designers I know, but you can get some stuff for a true fraction of retail. I also sell on there, so I try and wait to buy until I've built up a balance and then it's basically "free" since I already had the funds.

Lol. I work in an academic library and everyday is a Boden fashion show.
But I don’t know why dressing like a 40 year old academic is a bad thing.
Lol, I am an academic and Boden is far more fashionable than most of what I've seen around campus. I completely understand why one would want to avoid looking like the average 40 year old academic (I just don't think Boden is that style).
To answer the OP, most of my clothes are in solid, neutral colors - black, grey, white, olive green, shades of blue. I have a handful of patterns (mostly stripes). In the winter, I will sometimes try to add some color with a scarf - I have several scarves in brighter colors. I also sometimes wear big earrings. My wardrobe is pretty boring, but I've come to terms with the fact that while I want my clothes to be flattering, I'm not particularly fashionable, and that's okay. I can re-wear things frequently without people noticing, and I don't spend much time deciding what to wear in the morning. Sometimes I wish I were more fashionable, but ultimately, I'd rather spend that time/money on things that are more enjoyable to me.

Hold on a sec and I'll send you a PM.
Do you ever get something from posh mark that doesn’t meet your expectations? I’m totally not opposed to buying secondhand and get most of my kids clothes that way. But in person I can see if there’s a stain, or weird seam pull, or funky smell.
I have been afraid to pull the trigger on online secondhand for this reason.
