Thank you for helping us with logistics for a virtual birthday party for his class. I’m hoping it’s just a fun little thing for the kids.
Mom of Quarantined Kindergarten Boy
Dear Parents,
Please send me your addresses so I can have a little paint kit and cupcake delivered to your kid for a birthday celebration. I think the kids willl enjoy painting an owl and eating a cupcake together.

Dear weather,
Go home, you're drunk. Snow on April 23 is unacceptable. I need warm, sunny spring weather, because this continued cold (and snow) is really affecting my mood. No 60 degree temps even in the 10-day forecast, and 60 degree temps are typical for this time of year. Can I just hibernate until there are leaves on the trees?
Dear me, You refinished furniture yesterday and now you are sore and want to do nothing today. Thankfully it is review day for elearning.
Dear DD, why do I have to physically wrestle the chromebook out of your hands to sign you into the class google meet? These are my worst moments as a parent- so frustrating.
Dear people- I forgot how judgmental people are. Several people have made comments about the breed of our dog. I didn’t pick the breed, DH did. I was bit by a dog in the past so I am over anxious about dogs in general, but yet this dog seems pretty good. It’s only been 3 weeks so we have a ways to go but negative comments are not helping. I forgot how every little thing especially when new (pregnancy, babies) involves public comment. It’s not like the breed is considered an aggressive breed. I don’t even want to post that we got this dog now, and I forgot I have a friend who is oddly combative about dog training. I never really paid attention but I think her method is a more aggressive approach.
Dear bike riding camp, I’m 99% sure you are not happening and I’m sad about it. It doesn’t help that superior mom in the community posted her child riding his bike and how her approach is better than everyone else’s. This is how she is all the time.
Dear Me You can't be getting sick. It isn't allowed. So maybe try and actually sleep at night. Me who's ears hurt and throat is scratchy
Dear Principle Can you please stop sending emails at 10pm. If I don't read them but I know it is there I can't sleep. If I read it, I still think about it and can't sleep. Can you just send them during the day? Mom who needs to get a good nights sleep and not think about school
DD I don't know how to fix this. I know you miss gymnastics and your gym friends. I get you don't want to go to the office anymore. I just don't have a fix I'm sorry Mom

Dear Investment Teams,
Can we pick 2 or 3 time zones and stick with investments in those? Having me work on investments in every major time zone in the world is confusing me to no end. I literally spend at least an hour a day doing time zone conversions to figure out when the suggested call times are.
Signed, Need to find a better time zone converter app
OMG. You’re requiring all your non-union employees to take a week of unpaid leave every month through August? How is that going to work?
Signed, Shocked
Dear Company:
Considering we are all still working our asses off, please don’t follow their lead. I’m so glad we don’t generally follow their lead. Not only would it be a huge financial hit, but I honestly cannot do my job in 3/4 of the normal time.

How cute!
We ordered two presents for kids in DS' class this week and we have a birthday parade for one on Thursday and a zoom party for the other on Saturday. I'm not exactly sure what the zoom party will be but DS loves seeing his friends on zoom so it's cool.
Dear landscapers, THANK YOU. Your services are worth their weight in gold. Now my yard is back at square one, raked, cleaned up, and you hauled away a pile of brush that I had no way to deal with since I don't have a truck. It would have taken me days and days to get all that work done in between everything else. Now we can just enjoy being outdoors as a family. Plus, you were able to fit me in the day after I called! Amazing! Signed, Grateful Client
Dear Kids, I'm super excited to get your new swing set built! I think you're going to love it, especially hanging out in the fort part. With no summer camp/me still WFH likely, this will be a summer that we actually spend at home in our own yard. I'm glad I can finally make it a little nicer. I know this is your birthday present and we're a month early, but I really, really wish I had time to get it set up now! It would really come in handy during spring break next week. Signed, Excited Mom
Dear Mom, Stop hyping up summer at the lake to the kids, please. No one knows what summer is going to look like and there is literally no way to social distance at the lake unless we're on the boat and anchored at the sand bar far away from other people, which I know is not your plan. Can we just see how things go and talk about it when it happens? They've had enough stuff taken away at this point, let's not make more false promises. Signed, I have to deal with the disappointment

waverly, I think you said it was a heeler? My parents have had 5 blue and red heelers since the 90's and they have all been great family dogs and only aggressive when guarding their property and herding cattle. They have been great around all the grandkids.
Dear client, Thank you for going along with my stupid humor. I couldn't help but quote a Willie Nelson song and joke about beating a dead horse with your scenario this morning. It was unprofessional of me but I'm glad you played along, coming back with trying to lead your client to water. Signed, Trying to make my job interesting.
I'm glad we have some extra guidance with this whole PPP shit show, even if that guidance is that we're going to try to finish out the applications we have in the queue and no new applications will be accepted. After working incredibly long hours for a banker (which.. yeah, I can't really complain too much about, because 90% of the time, I have fabulous work/life balance) for the last few days, I submitted my last 3 clients and won't have much more to do on PPP until the next round of loan docs.
Signed, Phew
Dear WP's,
As part of our efforts to cure coronavirus in weird ways, we cancelled our August vacation. I'm 100% sure that coronavirus took hold only because we scheduled our first ever very nice vacation, and now that we've cancelled it, there's a strong likelihood coronavirus retreats, since that's the way the world works, right? The only reason it may stick around is because DH is already hopeful we can plan something during October break.
Signed, I'm going to make a tropical drink tonight to mourn/celebrate.
Dear Mother Nature I'm very grateful for the rain the next few days because it will force people to stay indoors. Sunshine and warm weather brings everyone outside and no one seems to want to follow the rules because the sun is out. Rain Rain stick around PS: The rain will help put off fire season too
k3am, we're still hopeful for our August vacation. It's a short direct flight from our local airport to a very small airport. And we're staying with close friends in two next-door rental houses in a remote area. I'm sorry that yours isn't going to work out

Hopefully the fact that we cancelled means you get to go! Then I can say I took one for the team.
We were planning a trip out of SFO and staying at a resort. If things end up opening up before then, we'll probably go somewhere we can drive to and do a nice Air BnB.
I think the whole world is going to be ready to vacation once this settles down.

Dear Boss,
I'm impressed. For someone who typically has no sense of social norms / team spirit, the fact that you've organized a virtual team wine tasting event, with wines delivered to each team member, is truly amazing. Thank you for recognizing that we all need this right now.
Yes the dog is a heeler. When I asked about the dog and cat I was told her let’s like to chase small animals which is true and not great for the cat (we keep them separated), but everyone likes to tell me they are not great with kids which she has been good with them so far. But really it’s small kids they aren’t necessarily good with not older kids.
It just makes me nervous, plus made me forget how much random people just like to comment on our life. I guess I forgot for a while since when I had babies and toddlers random strangers commented all the time. Now that my kids are older they are largely ignored by society. It’s just kind of funny what people like to comment on.
When you outgrow the playset, it will make a nice turkey coop/condo.
Signed, speaking from experience.
Dear people,
For the love of all that is holy, quit congregating. I want this to be over. I am running out of staff.
Signed, public health
Dear everyone,
I still have my heart set on the mountains in July. I am trying to talk DH into switching from a hotel to cabin. We are supposed to go to TN, but since they seem a little crazy opening now, I am a little worried about July. Maybe sticking to the woods and cooking in a cabin and staying out of town will work. Please.

+1 that we're still hopeful for our August vacation (WDW, and I heard today that they extended the closure to May 16) and k3am I'm sorry yours isn't going to work out.
If stay at home is lifted we had a weekend trip booked for early June. I think it might be possible to still go (driving short distance and renting a house) and socially distancing because the house wouldn't have had tenants before us that I know of, and even if restaurants are still closed maybe we get take out and walk around and call it a weekend. But I would still want the order lifted by then I think to go. We have until May 23 to decide for a full refund.
We had an actual vacation (longer drive but still renting a house in the middle of nowhere) for July. Again, we can socially distance, but that one I would rather things be lifted more by then because it is fairly rural. Not a lot to do there, we were planning on the kids being at sleep away camp which is probably not going to happen, so now they would come with us. Luckily the house is big enough. But I think we were planning on relaxing, and if the kids come with us the relaxation part won't be as much.

waverly, sorry people are being negative about your dog. We got a lot of comments about our German Shepherd when we started having kids because they are an "aggressive" breed. (I was actually knocked down half a flight of stairs by my grandparents' German Shepherd when I was 3 (although I don't remember it), and that wasn't enough to make me not want to get a GSD.) I'm sure we'll get some comments about our next GSD, which will be all black, when it's full grown.
I have one more...
Dear leaders at my new company,
I'm kind of flabbergasted that the legal department retro dated a job change for someone changing exemption status (the employee when from non-exempt to exempt, i.e., hourly to salaried). IMO, that is a bit risky from a Fair Labor Standards Act perspective, so I'm surprised that this retro change was done in the legal department. I'm also surprised my manager didn't have an answer as to if these retro changes are actually allowed and forwarded my question to someone in...the legal department. At my last company, job changes that resulted in a change to exemption status could only be future-dated, no retro changes were allowed due to FLSA implications/risks.
covergirl82, that's the thing I wouldn't have thought any dog breed an aggressive breed except those that people train to fight. And then half the internet is like oh those breeds aren't aggressive and it is the way they are trained.
I didn't care for my sister's German Shepherd because as a untrained pup (she was a rescue), she spent lots of time jumping on you and mouthing you, but I still wouldn't have said they are an aggressive breed just that German Shepherd's need training and have energy. With training and age she mellowed quit a bit, and I liked her better then.
My sister didn't plan on a dog- they literally found her on the side of the road wandering I think clearly dumped from a car, so the timing wasn't great for her to have time to train her.

FFC, I didn't like my German Shepherd much her first year of life...she was kind of a turd with being bite-y and she chewed on things (like the heel of one of my shoes, a baseboard, and a corner where two walls met). That was very sweet that your sister rescued that dog and gave it a good life, waverly.
waverly, I was recently criticized for posting a photo of DD skateboarding and not wearing wrist guards.. so yes, opinions are like assholes.. everyone's got one, but no one wants to see them.

Oh geez. Wrist guards are like the last thing I would think of right now.
186momx, can you work from home at all to change up the scenery for DD?
Dear CEO,
I hear that you think the SAH Order is going to be overturned in the next two weeks and everything will be back to business. But....the schools will still be closed so what are working parents supposed to do....?
mellym my firm has made it really clear that any reopening of the office will include a ton of flexibility due to other issues like schools remaining closed. We would still want to socially distance in the office anyway, so they wouldn’t want everyone back in the office. Hopefully your firm is the same.
