DD doesn't feel good. Our weather has been bonkers and her sinuses are going haywire. I just gave her Benadryl and she hasn't stopped blowing her nose since we got to the office. She is crying over nothing and it is going to be a long day. She has zoom social class at 2pm and I just found out it is show and tell and she has nothing to show because we are at work and not at home. I'm tempted to have her skip. I know a FWP problem but to an 8 year old it is a big ass problem and just makes me feel even more rotten.
I did plant my lettuce starts in my garden last night and some radish seeds. I'm hoping my corn, cucumber, and peas seeds that I put in pots last weekend start coming up soon.
I started getting sick at the end of last week and have symptoms of the coronavirus except no fever. The Public Health Nurse told me to quarantine for 7 days. My doctor didn't test me because there's a similar virus going around our community. The last 5 people she did test were negative. I'm reassured that it's most likely this other virus going around but still worried it's not...It's interesting that they still aren't testing everyone. I'm supposed to call back and get tested if the chest tightness gets worse. It made for a long weekend at home. We were outside all day yesterday and the sun felt glorious.
mellym, Oh no! I hope it's just the other virus and nothing serious. It does seem crazy that they wouldn't test you though. I still can't figure out how we're deciding on who gets tested and who doesn't. It seems so random.
186momx, Can she show and tell something from the office? What if she shows off her workspace at the office? That's something other kids won't have! Or, just skip and who cares. But I know that's way easier said than done.
We started spring break today. A week of no school work is amazing, but I still have to work all week and the weather is supposed to be cold and rainy basically every day. I did a major overhaul of the home office room over the weekend, so that's helping me today. But I'm also so tempted to just curl up and take a nap with this grey weather.
Petty rant. I had promised Chic Fil A this weekend. So I woke up Saturday to no car because DH took it because his battery is dead. Had to go all over to get a battery in DS's beat up dirty truck. Really didn't want to eat in it. It has no cupholders, it's a stick so it takes all hands and feet. Thought, well I'll just go Sunday where I can just relax. They are obviously closed. So DH and DD go to town to run errands today and I have to pretty much beg him to stop and get Chic Fil A while I am stuck at the kitchen table working. They got me the wrong sandwich. I am just craving some comfort food. It seems like I bend over backwards to make everyone else's life manageable and I can't even get a damn sandwich.

I didn't sleep well last night and I'm tired and unmotivated today. I got a little sunburnt yesterday, so I might not have slept well due to that. We were outside for a couple hours while DS played baseball with a few friends from his travel team.
We finally had beautiful, spring weather over the weekend. DH cleaned the windows (inside and out) and I cleaned up some clutter and did some dusting. We also went to check on my parents on Saturday and checked on our travel trailer on our land. DH put up a trail camera right by the trailer; the camera is motion-sensor and we got a few pictures of deer coming right up to the trailer.
Online school seems to be going a bit smoother, so that's been good. DD is Zooming with a friend she hasn't seen in a while, so that has brightened her day.
mellym I'm sorry you're sick. A couple friends of mine believe they've had COVID in the past month and felt the same way - all symptoms but no fever. I believe you can actually order an at home test from LabCorp - that's what one of them did, and is waiting for the results.
We had a great weekend because it felt like summer here and we used our pool a lot. It almost felt normal. But being 8 months pregnant in heat and humidity - I am SO HOT all the time now.
mellym, hope you're on the upswing soon. My friend's husband got tested on Friday but won't get results until this Friday since he went to urgent care. She came down with a fever on Saturday and is getting tested today and should have results back in 24-48 hours.
This week is starting off weak. I've been dragged down stairs to help the kids at least every 4 minutes. I don't function this way - the only way I get work done is under ideal circumstances and no interruptions. I'm useless.
DD decided not to do Zoom with her class today. I gave her the option and she said she doesn't want to and I'm not pushing it today.
rere, I get it. It seems like 75% of the time DH goes and gets us food he comes back with my order messed up. This is even when I personally call in the take out order so I know it is ordered right but it still comes home wrong. I keep telling him he needs to check it before he leaves but he won't do it. I would go get it myself but DH is the one who can't stand being stuck at home so this is one way for him to get out.
Work Vent: I've been trying all month to gain access to the state employment reporting software for a new client. New client needs to grant me access but he doesn't have time to deal with it. So I've been dealing with the state a trying to get him set up and I totally get why he says he has no time because jeez they take over a week to respond to emails and trying to call all you get is a busy signal. No wonder we keep getting clients calling asking us to help them with unemployment you can't get a hold of the employment department.

Good morning. I started the day already behind. Taking over your longtime team as their new manager is tricky. Doing so at a time when everyone is at home and their lives (and yours) are all pandemonium is trickier. I am tired. I am also buried in email.
If we are work venting, I have one. Every week, the AVPs and VP who report up to our Chief Legal Officer have a meeting. This includes my VP. Every week for the last three weeks, someone from our government affairs or community affairs group has made some oddball pronouncement to our CLO about the area I’m in charge off. We’ve received a clearance from a government entity. A whole government agency has stopped processing licenses or permits. And every freaking week my VP is shocked by the pronouncement. Because they’re full of shit and have no idea what they’re talking about. I’m so annoyed at them all right now. Why don’t they... oh I don’t know... ask me about stuff before they give our executives incorrect info about something outside their purview. I swear it’s because they’re trying to pad their reports by looking like they’re involved in my world. They aren’t.
twinmomma, enjoy break. The weather forecast is so terrible this week. Basically it's "Wednesday might not suck, but otherwise... sorry."
Today was our first day back after spring break and it was... rough. We had zoom calls at 9, 10, 11. DD2 had to watch a video before her 10, but I had to facilitate the 9am, and everyone was so, so slow to get going today. DH had to jump in. Technology was not cooperating. I had a terrible headache that settled directly over my right eye. Somehow I have become the 1st grade parent tech support, because people started calling and emailing me for tech help while trying to get DD2 going on her 10am zoom call.
My kids have required help every 3-5 minutes ALL DAY TODAY. I just told my kids that I needed one hour to accomplish several things (work, tracking down a package that was declared Delivered! to an address over 2000 miles away, plan out the rest of their weeks, etc.), and that if they had questions, they should put them aside until the hour was up.
The kids have been at each other's throats all day. And I had so very many video calls. Today is not going well....not well at all. I am about ready to give up.

General question: I want to order my mom a grandmother's birthstone necklace for Mother's day. There will be 7 stones. Would you order them based on oldest to youngest grandchild or by color?
mellym, my friend’s test was negative, but they didn’t do it till a couple weeks after when they think the infection was. She said:
‘It was super fast and easy. If I didn’t think we all already had it I’d buy one to keep around and just use that to test next time I think someone has it. Literally mailed it with their pre paid FedEx label, they got it 6 am next day and gave results by 5 pm that night. Yes it was easy. It is just nostril swab, so easy, not waaaay up, so not sure if that means more false negatives likely?‘
Another friend of mine just ordered one for for someone who is symptomatic now - we’ll see what that one says.
k3am, my client in San Jose just told me that - I'm sorry The Bay area seems to have done so well on flattening the curve, and you all have been SIP for longer than most people, so I'm surprised they're not trying to phase in some things reopening at this point!
I'm interested to see what happens in the state as a whole/SoCal. The LA area is getting hit really hard, then there's Orange County with a population the size of Georgia but only 39 coronavirus deaths (Georgia has close to 1,000), and then here in San Diego we're also in pretty good shape so far, comparatively.
One of the goddamn pet rats died and now the other is so heartbroken it won't eat anything. My kids are convinced she died from the virus. Now holding a pet rat funeral in my front yard in the rain. FML.
I knew it was coming.. and that even if it didn't come, it was effectively here, since schools are closed. But man.
We are on week 7 with no end in sight. I have opinions about this whole thing, but they're not the popular ones, so I'm keeping quiet. Our neighbor is on police force and he says the residents can't take SIP much longer. He's never handled as many domestic disturbance calls before. Add in summer heat and people are going to boil over.
Although this means that after next week, I need to find a new workout program, since the one I'm doing is 8 weeks. Every time I get to the end of it, I'm in fabulous shape but I don't like other programs and then I just backslide.
k3am, I think it's likely I share your unpopular opinions. I'm very politically liberal, but find myself starting to agree with some of the people whose political views I otherwise find reprehensible, on some of the lockdown/shelter in place mandates.
Well, you guys could move to Texas. The DFW metroplex has just had the two highest positive case and deaths days since this began, so we are reopening Friday. We are dead last in testing. Pun only slightly intended. So come on down! Free coronavirus for everyone!
Darwin FTW! I’m staying home. I plan to live. And vote in November. But hey, people can eat at Applebee’s again so all is great, right?
sdlaura, it's amusing because I've never identified particularly well with one political party or another, and this isn't helping! My only political stance I'm 100% confident in is that anyone willing to run for any office in this country is bat shit crazy.
DD will ask every once in a while if I'd want her to President, and the answer is a resounding NO!
mommyatty , I'm definitely not interested in going to a restaurant, or to get my nails done - promise! But in places where people have been SIP for months, testing is widely available, hospitals are empty and new cases/deaths are down, it would be really nice to be able to use my own judgment about whether to be able to drive to book club and sit far apart from a few friends
This situation will definitely not impact who I'm voting for in November (there is less than zero chance it would ever be for the incumbent, coronavirus or not).
Question, how did my life go from teaching teenagers and drug prevention to learning the in and outs of various meat processing facilities? This is a totally new skillset.
We can’t stay locked down forever. DH has been rolling his eyes because I’ve been researching like crazy. You all are probably rolling your eyes too.
Open up too soon, and you will have a second wave. But we will open again. It won’t be 18 months or until a vaccine. It will be (should be) a very slow pulling back of layers. Those that just pop right back open run the risk of closing again. I’m ready to go back now, but I don’t think we’ll extend past May 30. I think we’ll open more up June 1. Now let’s hope I’m right because if it extends through June then I’m going to be mad. 10-12 weeks is my bet.

I think if you open, you have to open schools. Otherwise how can you expect parents to work? I'm decidedly undecided on the issue. I'm also much less affected than other people. I can work safely from home, DH is watching the kids, and life in general has been going reasonably well for us.
Today has been a tough day though. I think we are really running out of things to do with DD. She just kind of wanders around the house.
