Based on my understanding of the testing, to have enough viral load to test positive today, it's likely he was already positive (but maybe pre-tesr levels) at the debate.
He'd definitely meet criteria to be exposed based on the criteria of who have you been around the past 48 hours.
But did he really expose them? Were they tested that day?
CDC would consider them within the time frame. Tested positive within 48 hours of the debate. They weren't within 6 feet, but that was a long time in an enclosed space, no masks, and lots of yelling.

I really hope that part of the HVAC design would have limited the airflow between the two of them.
The past 4 years have twisted my mind so much my first instinct was that he’s lying to garner sympathy and avoid the public for the next 14 days so as to stop the snowball of negativity he’s created, and he will emerge unscathed so he can say, “See? I’m strong and healthy as a horse. NBD.”
The alternative, it being true, is also awful. He exposed Biden. And he’ll also be ok because he’s a freaking cockroach.

This is one way for people to stop talking about his support of proud boys. He’s a con man and never divulges any information he doesn’t want out. Not ever.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

Ordinarily they would go back 48 hours, but ordinary people don’t get tested as often as the WH does. If the Trumps both tested negative on Tuesday could they still have been contagious? I guess I assumed if you have the viral load to be contagious, you have the viral load to test positive (false negatives notwithstanding). But I honestly don’t know if this is true, or just my assumption.
Were they ever near each other? Hopefully that huge auditorium was enough space to stay safe. I actually think they should have done the debate remotely anyway. It would have been far easier to mute Trump and safer for all.
I hope Trump doesn't have an asymptomatic case. Imagine his message he will send if he ends up feeling totally fine. People will be even less concerned about it. This is actually really scary to me.

H and I were saying the same thing when we saw the news this morning.
As soon as I saw the news this morning I put on my tinfoil hat. The timing is a little too suspect for my liking. I just know that he's going to have a "mild" case and that he's going to try to use this to prove his point that it's all a hoax and is nothing more than a cold.

Hmmm all these people who think it’s just the flu/cold are suddenly offering up prayers...it’s almost like they’re aware they bought into bullshit so they could continue living life uninterrupted. Hmmmmmmmmm.
I welcome the chaos. Fuck this orange nazi. May he live long enough to be aware he lost the election by a landslide and then, weeks later, a hero janitor trips over his ventilator cord.
I agree, the timing is suspect. When my son tested positive for COVID, we had to tell the health dept everywhere he had been for the five days before he started symptoms, so I am sure that the Bidens, and everyone else in the room, were exposed on Tuesday.

Typically, HVAC systems are not reconfigured for debates. In the past, construction crews have transformed gymnasiums into a debate hall. There's a lot of carpentry work, but not so much HVAC work. My former company has done 3 debate setups and tear downs.
I shared this over on cep but it's too good not to share everywhere.
I saw this on fb this AM:
RBG has argued her first case to god.
I feel so unchristian to have laughed at this but I did.
I am hoping that Joe’s and Jill’s physical distance from trump, plus his conscientious mask wearing, will keep them safe. I’m sure people on one staff interacted with people from the other staff so I hope they stay healthy too but fingers crossed there were enough degrees of separation that night.
This was my first concern- about Biden. I think there’s a good amount of research that a small amount of COVID positive people spread it to a lot of people, but most COVID positive people infect no one, even people they live with. For Biden’s sake, if Trump actually does have it, I’m hoping Trump is in the former set.

Previously I wouldn't expect them to reconfigure HVAC but managing airflow is a known way to limit COVID exposure, so I'd expect the campaigns and committee to do their best to make sure that airflow between 45 and Biden was limited.

Chris Wallace said on FOX this morning he would estimate Biden and Trump were eight feet apart from each other during the debate, and that he himself was about ten to twelve feet from both of them. (Whether or not that’s accurate, who knows.) Wallace also noted that the Trump contingency walked into the debate room wearing masks, and then - defying Cleveland Clinic protocol set for the debate wherein only Wallace, Biden and Trump were allowed to be maskless - promptly took them off.
What would happen if Trump and Biden died? I mean, I hope Biden is okay but I don’t know the protocol for the death of a candidate so close to the election.
ETA I do know what happens if Trump dies! It’s the Biden part I wasn’t sure about.

This is bonkers to me. Why not have the candidates 20 feet apart? Or even in the same location? They did split-screen anyway, there was NO reason for them to even be 8 feet from each other.

Yeah, this is actually super frustrating if this is the case. 8 feet isn't much at all. 6 feet is a general guideline, not a hart stop. It's not like COVID can't travel an extra 24 inches! For some reason they looked a lot further apart to me on camera, so I hope Chris Wallace is just bad at judging distance (though I am too, lol).
I don't know why they had them at the same location at all. It actually seems really irresponsible given that Trumps team won't follow directions. I'd be very uncomfortable being in an enclosed space unmasked with anyone right now, even people who generally follow guidelines for safety. Being in a space with people who are unmasked who are clearly breaking safety rules every day would be a hard "no" for me. I wonder why this decision was made in the first place.

Why wasn't there a repercussion for his contingency blatantly breaking the rules? Why didn't anyone have these clowns put masks back on? This makes no sense to me.

There was at least one person there who approached them and offered masks, but he was waived off.
