Hits: Turkey! OMG. The turkey was amazing - we used this recipe: www.cooks.com/recipe/tt9ug5b4/roast-turkey-rub.html We also did a dry brine before that, and it was just luscious. There were bits of caramelized pork on it that were basically chicharons, and the gravy made from the drippings was seriously the best gravy I've ever had in my life. SO GOOD. Stuffing (DH made it from scratch), sweet potatoes (America's Test Kitchen recipe), wild rice and sauteed mushrooms (no recipe, just put it together), roasted green and purple Brussels sprouts with pancetta, shallots, and pomegranate molasses, cranberry chutney, and mashed potatoes (just my standard in the Instant Pot).
Misses: Both pies that DH made were good, but could have been better. The pecan pie was overcooked and too sweet for me. The pumpkin was better, but the crust was underdone on the bottom, and the filling was a bit under as well. Still edible, but could have been better.
We also determined we have an oven that runs hot, so we're going to invest in an oven thermometer.
Anyone have a suggestion for repurposing mashed turnips? I made way too much. We’re ok eating them as-is but I’ve never heard of a way to repurpose the leftovers.

My apple pie turned out SO big. I made it taller than I have in a very long time. And miraculously, the apples didn't bake down too much, the crust didn't burn at all, and it looked beautiful. My mom declared it the prettiest pie I've made in a couple of years at least.
I also made creamed corn that turned out really good. I've never made it before, so that was exciting.

This was my first GF Thanksgiving after being DF for a number of years. I was kind of apprehensive and used a store-bought GF pie crust rather than making my own, for my pumpkin-praline pie. It turned out fine, but I think next time I'll try homemade.
The only thing I really missed was DH's fresh bread. That's one of my favorite things and I wasn't feeling confident enough to try a GF version.
We did two medium-sized turkeys, one roasted and one smoked, because we couldn't agree on a cooking method, lol. The turkeys were both great, but the roasted one was exceptional (good job, DH!). We have eaten a ton of turkey, DH made turkey stock yesterday and we froze a bunch of turkey and stock. I am currently eating turkey soup with almond flour crackers.
I tried a couple of new things and was very happy with them. I made a GF/DF corn casserole and it was delicious. I'd never had corn casserole before, and it is definitely going to be a new staple. I also tried a new cranberry sauce recipe with merlot and raspberries that a friend posted about on FB and it was FANTASTIC.
The one blip was that DH tried to make me DF mashed potatoes with some DF half-and-half I'd bought for something else, and they tasted weirdly sweet. So I made a second batch with chicken stock, which is what we normally use and works well.

I was going to make Dorie Greenspan's tarte noir for a dessert but my husband's birthday is 3 weeks before Christmas and he requested that as his birthday "cake" so I'm thinking maybe cheesecake. Red Velvet perhaps?
