I started the day with my annual exam. I got both the flu and tetanus shot and my arm is killing me plus she must have hit a nerve because the tetanus shot triggered an immediate headache. I could feel the shot crawl all the way up my arm and into my neck. My BP was high, they took it 3 times and each time it went down so it was normal by the time I left but then I came and Dr. Googled it and ugh. My doc also asked me multiple times if I wanted meds or a counseling referral to help me deal with the upcoming tax season and distance learning. I said no but she made sure to tell me multiple times all I have to do is call and she will send whatever I need in.
Work is crazy busy today and all I want to do is go sit outside in the sunshine.
I have one. My boss just submitted his retirement 6 months early. He was going to do it in July next year. But between the board nitpicking everything and not understanding things even though he explained them multiple times, and Covid - he is out.

I'm sore and hungry today. I went dirt bike riding yesterday so I'm sore from that. Then beau and I decided today was the day to start working out and eating better/less. But it's worth it because riding was fun and I need to desperately lose weight.

My mom had a talk with me about her concerns about my Dad and his memory issue. We are worried he is showing signs of Alzheimer's. He is still reaonsably mentally sharp when it comes to his own stuff - he's still learning Spanish for fun and has made very good progress, seems to have good grasp of new technology etc., but changes to his usual routine seem to be quite the struggle. For example, the kids slept over last night and my mom was to drive them to school this morning, and my dad asked my mom three times in the morning why I haven't come to pick up the kids yet.
I looked up signs of Alzheimer's and don't know what to think. They are doing all the right things. Both are in very good physical health, exercise a lot, eat healthy, has a decent social life, etc.
DD1 has an interview at a new school tomorrow. I’ve been trying to prep her a little. My sister sent me a bunch of questions that her kids had to answer when they were interviewing at various private schools in the area, so I asked DD1 to start thinking about them.
She just... won’t. And with questions like this, if she doesn’t want to answer, she will simply try to change the subject.
No matter how many times I say it, she just doesn’t grasp that there is a real possibility that she doesn’t get in. I can’t make her get it. She really wants to go. I have to try and be breezy because I’m making myself crazy.
traveltheworld, it isn’t necessarily Alzheimer’s, but that does sound like something is going on. It could be mini-strokes or another form of dementia. And the awful thing is there really is little to nothing to be done about it.
Random: we adopted a male cat during quarantine. He came from our city shelter. Supposedly he was neutered. Newsflash- he was not neutered. The shelter would do it for free, but considering they gave me an unneutered cat whose medical records clearly showed he was neutered, I’m paying our vet $300 to do the surgery instead. I don’t know if I got the paperwork for the wrong cat or the vet who was supposed to neuter him just decided “nah, not in the mood today” or what. But I don’t want them getting confused and adopting out my cat to another family or euthanizing him or something.
Random: I posted this on money matters, but I know we have smart financial people here who could help too. I only lurk on that board. I'm trying to decide if I should buy a new car or not right now. I'm going to need a new car in the next few months, but the timing of a new car with potentially adding a new mortgage is stressing me out.
I just found an incredible deal on a used car that's the exact model I want, super low mileage, and can get an interest rate on financing of about 2.75%.
Currently my only debt is my monthly mortgage payment. I have no student loans, no credit cards, no car payment, etc.
Will adding a car payment hurt me tremendously before trying to do the whole new mortgage thing in the new year?
For the new mortgage amount, debt to income ratio would be 28%. Adding in the car payment, I'd be at 33%.
Whine: I'm.. overwhelmed. Work is overwhelming, spending days in jury duty while I should be working is overwhelming, then coming home and having to deal with my family is overwhelming. My boss likes to delegate.. everything. Or to do a very topical review of something and tell a client/prospect that something is doable when it's not, and then I get to spend 20-80+ hours working a deal that is NOT DOABLE and it drives me nuts under good circumstances, but especially now. So basically, I'm definitely on the struggle bus, and getting ready to transfer to waaahmbulance.
Also whiny.. our most recent PTA email includes requests for SIX different fundraisers. SIX. The kids aren't even in school and they are likely to never return to school prior to the next election (I mean.. it's hyperbole, mostly, but at this rate, I'm not entirely sure I'm wrong.)
twinmomma, I would try to hold off on the car. Having the least amount of debt when house buying seems to be the most helpful. I've been told a few times I can't refi my 2nd mortgage because my debt ratio was too high due to DH's car payment. The mortgage isn't in DH's name and wasn't going to add his name but still a no go.

STOP ASKING FOR MONEY.
What do they need $ for? Our PTA is flush with cash because they haven’t spent any since February.

“To fund their programs.” 🤷🏻♀️
They canned the music teacher before the year started, there are no events.
k3am, that’s crazy. Our PTO buys pretty big ticket items for our school. Like, new playground equipment and flexible seating for classrooms. We are back in school, but even ours has said since we can’t do things they traditionally pay for like our Halloween festival, they are laying off asking for money.
sdlaura186momx My car is ten years old, mileage is high, it's going to need some repairs soon, and we literally don't have a car that comfortably fits all five of us in it. Right now we're borrowing beau's mom's car when we all go somewhere together (she's snowbirding out of state so its temporarily available.) Size was already an issue regardless of beau though - I can't pitch in with carpool or anything like that either and it's been an issue.
It's not urgent like my current car is dead, but definitely something I need to address soon to stop putting money into it. I've been watching used cars for a couple months to gauge pricing and this one is a really good deal.
Thanks for the car advice! I talked to our mortgage broker and he wasn't concerned. If/when I get my year end bonus, I'll just throw that at the car loan too to bring it down. Originally I was going to wait and use it for a down payment, but I wanted to jump on this deal. I test drove the car today, did some haggling, then walked away to "sleep on it." They just called me back and dropped the price even lower, so I'm going for it! It's a 2019, only 7500 miles and I'm getting it for about half the price of a brand new one!
I would donate for that in a heartbeat. But we’re not going back anytime soon and they aren’t indicating that’s what funds will be used for.
Our district also said individual schools can’t raise funds for PPE/return due to inequalities throughout the district.
Ditto. I suggested this to our PTA and got a quick nope can’t do that.
We are 💯 distance learning through Jan 19. Our PTO gave the school $ to buy notebooks and stylus pens for all the students. Beyond that, PTO hasn’t spent much $. They usually pay for the part-time reading specialist etc.
In the past two weeks we’ve had five adult employees in my school test positive for COVID. Yet we are all carrying on, F2F with masks and desk shields...🤷🏼♀️
We are experiencing another spike...well the country is but we definitely are too. No one is talking about it because election and whatever. But as a state we voted for the guy without a mask so. Cheers MFers!
BIL is having a big surprise 50th for SIL right after Thanksgiving. Inviting like 50 people who will be traveling from many states. Most will drive, some will fly. From a state that seems to be denying the existence of COVID. DH wants to go. School is requiring COVID tests and/or quarantining for ANY travel.
It’s just so risky, and I hate to the the b!tch and say no, but UGH WTF BIL!!!
