Growing up, presents were always put under the tree as they were wrapped. It was so fun watching the pile grow slowly over the weeks. Santa presents would show up, wrapped, next to our stockings in the morning.
As an adult we have no kids and I don't do a tree, so our presents get set on the dining room table as they are wrapped. I'd prefer to set them on the hearth, but one of our cats is a little too curious and messes with them if they are down low.
We put presents under the tree as they come in the mail from our moms and our brothers’ families (all not local). We put all our gifts—those from us and those from Santa—out after bedtime on Christmas Eve. When I was a kid, I just loved the feeling of coming downstairs on Christmas morning to a huge pile of presents. It didn’t matter that a lot of those turned out to be practical gifts like sweaters and socks from my parents. That moment of delight was everything!
thanks all for responding - this was so fun! Growing up, H's family was option 2, all the presents arrived under the tree on christmas morning. My family was option 1, where presents arrived as they were wrapped and santa presents actually arrived next to our stocking/fireplace on christmas morning. for some reason, we also always opened family presents on Christmas Eve, and so on Christmas morning the only presents under the tree were those for family/friends that we would be seeing that day.
We are still in debate about how we are going to do things this year. DD is 2, so she doesn't quite get it so we've got a grace period. meanwhile, my office looks like santa's workshop with all the wrapped gifts and selfishly I'd love to get them out of here!
All presents are put out Christmas Eve after the kids are in bed. Anything in the stockings is from us and is unwrapped. Santa gifts are wrapped and under the tree.
Growing up, we helped my mom put all of the family presents under the tree before going to bed christmas eve. This is mostly because my mom is wrapping presents until the last second. Then, our santa presents and stockings showed up Christmas morning. Santa presents were always the big gift and never wrapped.
Now, we don't have kids, and H always gives me my gift unwrapped when he buys it.
I have no kids, but growing up presents from Mom and Dad were under the tree. Santa was the big presents and they were usually not wrapped and put out Christmas Eve after we were in bed.
Growing up, presents from family went under the tree, and Santa presents were left unwrapped.
For us, presents to one another are wrapped in fancy paper that matches the tree prior and placed there before Christmas. Santa gifts are wrapped in fun character paper.
At my parents they have 2 fireplaces, one in the living room and one in the family room. The tree goes in the living room and the stockings in the family room.
In my family presents to each other go under the tree with most there before Christmas, but a few always seem to appear overnight to be there for Christmas morning.
The presents from Santa, usually wrapped, go in the family room.

Everything -- Santa gifts and parent gifts -- go under the tree after DS goes to bed. Otherwise, he'd be shaking the gifts and trying to guess what was in them.
I didn't read everything. DH and I disagree, but we have done it my family's way. I grew up with Santa putting ALL The gifts out, and that's what we've done. Partly this works for me b/c we are ALWAYS rushed and behind and often I haven't even wrapped everything yet or figured out exactly who is giving what until Christmas Eve night! I also like the huge reveal of gifts in the morning, and not dealing with any gifts getting shaken/peaked at/stepped on or anything else. This also worked for us growing up b/c sometimes my parents had to make "special arrangements" with Santa to come early, before we went to my grandparents' house. It was often a total surprise to us when Santa would come. Some of that would have been ruined if they started piling gifts up early.
DH's parents would bring their gifts out separately and keep them in a pile next to them until they handed them out to the kids. Santa put gifts under the tree.

For us nothing goes under the tree until Christmas Eve. We don’t say stuff is specifically “from” Santa or parents. Each kid has their own wrapping paper that they get a clue on when packages mysteriously appear Christmas Eve with new PJs inside (sometimes matching, sometimes not). My girls are both long over Santa, my son believes but isn’t sure if gifts are from us or Santa, which is fine with me.
