Crap, I bought the Spritz egg kit because it was all I could find. Maybe I’ll hit the store on our way out of town to see if they have anything different.
I just got home from a trip to the garden center with my sister, and even though we said we were only going for bulbs I also walked out with a lenten rose plant for an empty spot in my front yard and three strawberry plants. This means that I need to spend at least a few hours now prepping my kitchen garden bed and the spot in the front so I can actually plant the things.
Also, my favorite aunt found a really good deal on airfare and flew out to see our side of the family for the first time since Christmas 2019! She's coming over to my house this afternoon to see it for the first time and just to hang out. With all of the adults in our immediate and extended families now fully vaccinated I suspect there will now be a revolving door of aunts, uncles, and cousins who want to visit after such a long travel drought. I'm not going anywhere until my kids can get vaccinated, but they are all welcome to come here!

England is allowing two families to gather (up to 6 people) outside, so we had two friends (married) come over to sit in our back yard for a bbq. We socially distanced, wore heavy jackets, had a fire going and blankets on us. It was heavenly to see someone other than my husband for a meal (I love him, but I've enjoyed his company a LOT). The rest of the weekend will be dog walks and relaxing/doing house things.

We’re traveling to the ILs today. We haven’t seen them in more than a year. SO excited to be with family again. They’re also really excited to see us. FIL tried to FaceTime/call us at 6:30 this morning to get our ETA, lol.
tacokick, I'm sorry you are missing your mom and grandfather this weekend.
I agree holidays are weird without kids. Easter is easier for me because I never had time off around it when I was in college/grad school and I was too far from home to ever travel without time off, so it's been over 20 years since I've consistently celebrated it with family anyway. I love holidays in general, though, especially Christmas and Halloween, and they often feel like kind of a let down as an adult and when we celebrate them alone. I hope your candy and special meal make it feel a little special this year anyway!
We don't have any plans for Easter at all. I am thinking we may order some pastries from a yummy place nearby but since I'm not 100% immune yet I don't want to go in and deal with crowds, so I'm counting on Doordash being able to deliver tomorrow. We will see if that's even an option since I'm guessing fewer delivery drivers will be working and the ones that are might be slammed. I guess we could try stopping in today, but I'm afraid they won't taste fresh enough if we do.
Thanks! I think I’m in the minority as an Easter lover. I really don’t like Halloween (as an adult) or Christmas and we all hated winter growing up so Easter was a real bright spot. No gift pressure, easy food, lots of candy in pretty colors. Cake.
Holidays are so kid centric! Yet not doing anything seems wrong too. It’s a tricky balance.
Depending on what pastries you want to get, they would probably be fine if you picked something up today. I don’t know if I’d trust Door Dash tomorrow or bakeries being open. I know all the bakeries near us are closed on Sundays anyway and for sure closed on holidays. If I was near you, I’d get the castella from www.shillabakeryusa.com which holds up for days! Or one of their other treats. We always buy a bunch and they are fine the next day.
We never dyed eggs using kits. Is the old food dye and vinegar method out of style?
I've tried everything and it all sucks. I accidentally bought a glitter kit this year so I think I'll be losing that part of the package before tomorrow.
Speaking of messes, today I learned you can really easily get stickers your child stuck to their furniture six or seven years ago off, even if you gave up long ago after a half-hearted attempt with GooGone and said fuck it, these will never come off, who cares. All it takes is a quick blast of heat with a hair dryer. 🤷 The more you know. 🌠
I just got back from buying 4 big pots for my backyard and one medium pot for the front porch. I'm so excited to plant things next month! It's my first time planting flowers as an adult. Also I'm super excited that my big pots are made of recycled tires! Next up, I need to get a lot of potting soil.
I was just texting my older college kid, and after a while I texted him an apology for something really awful I’d said to him years ago. I’d remembered it a few nights ago and I knew I owed him a sincere apology.
He had absolutely no recollection of it. Then he Venmo requested $10, so all is right in our world.

This time of year always makes me hate my clothes. It's still cool, but I'm sick of wearing my winter clothes and the colors all seem depressing. Plus I've gained weight, so I assume some older spring clothes don't fit. I do have some blouses that would work, but they require ironing and I can't bring myself to iron an outfit for sitting at home.
I don't NEED anything, though, because I don't leave the house and doubt my coworkers pay attention to what I'm wearing on zoom. I have a cart full of stuff from BR Factory that I keep "visiting" because I can't make a decision.

I broke my last screen protector. It wasn't bad, but we were going on a trip and I ordered new ones.
I asked H which ones I should get, and said they're all basically the same, get whatever.
So I got ones that I thought looked similar to ones we'd had in the past. They get here and H puts it on for me and says "oh these are plastic not tempered glass but it should be fine." I asked if I should order new ones and he says, "no it'll be fine."
I drop my phone last night.
My screen is now shattered, because lo and behold the plastic is thin and shit.
And he's all, "oh, well yeah it's plastic not tempered glass."
WTF H.
I'm so annoyed.
(eta: it's insured so I'll have them come replace my screen next week, but I'm still salty)

Had a really lazy and relaxing day so far sitting outside in the beautiful weather and reading on the porch. About to make snickerdoodle blondies (best recipe!!) and a Chinese smashed cucumber side to take to a grill out where we’re making kalbi by the lake. Uber is surging right now and it’s like an hour away on public transportation which is annoying. I could bike but I need to put air in the tires and get it together from its winter hibernation. Sure would be nice to have a bar, lolll. I put on red lipstick for the first time in like a year and I don’t know how I feel about it. I also put on these magnetic lashes I bought from the drugstore that I kind of love but also as a not drag queen don’t know if I can pull off.
Still feeling kind of bummed out about what happened with that guy I was seeing but trying to give him a little space to process stuff and then try to reach out to him tomorrow to ask if he wants to hang out (strong feeling he will say no, but I think if we can talk in person it would be a lot better.) Basically I think if we could keep seeing each other but just dial down the pressure and expectations then it could potentially work out. He came on so strong at first and in my experience that doesn’t normally end well. Blah, dating.
Also got the continuous heart rate monitor in the mail so trying to figure out what’s going on with that. My thyroid levels came back normal so that’s out unfortunately and I feel like is a less scary prospect than some of the other things it could be. Still need to schedule the EKG for next week

We dyed eggs today and went on a short walk around the neighborhood. Tomorrow we’re going to drive in church and then to my parents’ house to celebrate Easter and my dads retirement. My sister and her family are coming too. It’s the first we’ve all been together since last fall. 5/6 of us (adults) are fully vaccinated. I’m trying to not completely freak out about the kids, but feel like it’s about as safe as we can be. We’ll still spend a lot of time outside since it’s supposed to be so nice.
Due to various issues, I have not worked since the end of February. My boss just dropped off a huge Easter basket from my team with a bunch of goodies - both candy and non candy - and a gorgeous tulip plant. The cards had such sweet messages from everyone.
Kids went to Saturday at the y this morning. It’s a new thing they started where you drop the kids certain Saturday’s from 11-2 and then you leave for three glorious hours alone. I knew I should clean my house and car but instead I went mountain biking and then took a shower and drank coffee without doing any chores at all.
We took the dog for a walk and then hit the playground and the store for Easter dinner food. All in all they were away from screens for over 7 hours, woohoo. They are now ensconced in Minecraft and Zelda and I’m eating snacks. My house and car are still in very bad shape.
Easter was my moms favorite holiday and I totally went overboard for the kids in an attempt to distract them and myself. It’s not second Christmas bad but it’s more than they need.
I did finish the first of 2 beds in the front yard and I’m so proud of myself! I dug out grass/weeds, new soil, mulch and planted flowers over the course of this week & only needed DH to move these heavy pots I got.
My neighbor just asked my why I wear my hair curly when it looks better straight. Why do people feel the need to say rude shit to me this week? I always let my stylist straighten my hair because it's fun for a few days and I won't do it myself. It's different, but it's not better than my curls! And I'm salty because my H thinks I am overreacting to the comment (though, he thinks it was rude as hell).
We were going to die eggs, but lost electricity randomly for the whole afternoon and I hadn't made the eggs yet so that didn't happen.
My daughter is in a christian preschool and is going in hard on the religion. I grew up super religious and am no longer and idk how to handle it. Like she has a kids bible and all she wanted to do today was read it. When our electricity came back on she went "oh it's cause we were reading our Bible!" And I shut that down real fast 😬

My kids went to a Jewish preschool. We are not religious and were not raised Jewish. For a while they both thought they were Jewish. Some of my favorites:
We got a new stove and let them play in the box outside. DS1 insisted it was a sukkah. DS1 made a snowman-looking craft, but said it was a matzoh ball man (I asked him if everyone made a matzoh ball man and he said no) DS1 told me I had shofar-shaped eyebrows DS2 made a Haggadah and when he was showing it to us he said, "These are the frogs, these are the sores."
They've been in public school for a while and are back to being heathens/not religious like their parents.
What? The daylight is longer, this is not up for debate.
Well, if we’re being picky, it’s not LONGER, it’s just shifted later. Unless you’re talking about the general change of seasons and the lengthening of days. But that would happen with or without DST.

Just let us fight! This is not a place for actual facts.

Easter baskets are done x 4 ... I’m a firm believer that you’re never too old for an Easter basket 😊 J’s has Makers Mark in it 😜
We’re dying eggs tonight and then deviled eggs tomorrow. It’s one of the few things that Miss R likes about Easter.
Also I’m hoping I can hold it together tomorrow - since even before last Easter my mom made a HUGE push to have all of us kids at her house since the 4 of us hadn’t been together in years. As you know, she didn’t make it. It’s gonna be rough ...
Daylight savings time has confused me, too. Every day I am shocked when it is 6 or 7pm because it's still so light out and feels like late afternoon. I think this is a function of rarely leaving our house. Time has no meaning so I rely on the sun for some guidance. Now that the sun has changed, I don't know what's going on.
