Currently reading The Fortunate Ones by Ed Tarkington. It’s good so far and a quick read.
Tomorrow, Crown of Gilded Bones (From Blood and Ash #3) is released and I have it on pre-order. They are smutty, fantasy/romance. It’s not a genre I read really at all but a friend recommended the first as an escape-type book so I went with it. The writing isn’t great but I enjoyed the first 2. They are long at over 600 pages each, but are really fast reads.
I use Goodreads and find many of my books that way. More recently I’ve been following local, independent bookstores on Instagram and they always share Tuesday new releases. I also follow Parnassus Books, where Ann Patchett is a part-owner, and they do Tuesday new releases as well.
I am also reading Ruth Reichl's, Save Me the Plums. I am really enjoying it, but I have enjoyed all the books I have read by her.
And recently enough, I have also enjoyed: David Chang's, Eat a Peach - a memoir focusing on his upbringing, his psychology, his early years working in restaurants, the nascent stages of Momofuku, and then his ownership and management of subsequent restaurants, and his struggles with managing staff, and his involvement in the magazine, Lucky Peach.
Tobias Wolff's, The Night in Question. Short stories of flawed/wicked characters. I also read his short story collection, In the Garden of North American Martyrs, which similarly were about not-so-great people. In the same vein, I liked Curtis Sittenfeld's, You Think It, I'll Say It.
And Britt Bennett's novel, Vanishing Twin, was good.
