I don't know if you remember me mentioning that my company was acquired by another. I was offered a signing bonus and was cautiously optimistic about them. I wish I never took the damn money. They have me doing a job that I absolutely hate. I'm miserable. Plus, they have made some major missteps, including firing two people after saying our jobs were safe. I don't trust them and I'm in desperate need of a new job. I can't wait to get out of here. I dread going to work every day.

That sucks! How long do you have to stay to keep the signing bonus? Could you pay it back if you had to?

DH and I spent all weekend cleaning and purging and getting the place ready for the potential buyer tonight. I don't think it's looked this neat since before we moved in.

Hopefully you’ll find something better soon.
I have to stay until November. I could probably pay it, but it would be a struggle. I'm looking though. I've even been to see a career coach.
Thanks to the walking trails and not having a fenced yard, I’ve been taking the dog on 3-4 walks a day. Coincidentally, I noticed I lost 2 pounds this morning. Logically, it’s the increased movement. Illogically, my brain noted that the only times I’ve lost weight as and adult have been crazy low carb and cancer. And I’m not eating low carb.

I'm sorry you're miserable.
Are you in a field where it could be reasonable to ask a new employer "pay back" your signing bonus if you leave too early? Technically you'd probably pay it back, but would they give you a bonus to cover the amount?

Not really. In fact, I'm thinking about changing fields completely. So maybe I'd find myself in one, but I'm not holding my breath.
MeMyselfandI, that stinks. I hope you can find something to move to.
For any of you watching the Euros - this day has been a fabulous day of football/soccer. AND SWITZERLAND BEAT FRANCE. It's insane.
I asked DH to help me with something, and he’s like, “sure this game is over” with the 3-1 France and 89 minutes done. We came back to a tied game, and then he was like well hell, you don’t see this very often! Lol
Why the fuck are we so ingrained that we try to turn off an alarming fire alarm rather than gtfo and calling the fire dept? I have a friend that just posted that hers have been going off for 3 hours and she can't get them to shut off. How about because maybe something is wrong? Get out of the house! Call the fire dept! This is their literal job!

it depends why it’s going off. If you know it’s burnt toast, rhen you might not need to evacuate. Lol.
I have to say, when the alarm goes and there isn’t a fire, you do get push back from them. I’ve evacuated and called because my smoke/carbon monoxide one went off and got grief from them because it was caused by steam from the shower. And my mom had one malfunction and go off for an unknown reason and she got grief for it, too. Lol.

Agreed. I think the issue is so many false alarms for smoke detectors. Our smoke detectors used to go off all the time, sometimes due to cooking or the shower, but also randomly due to what was eventually found to be some kind of defect. The company ended up replacing them all for free, but that was after a few years of issues.
But I don't mess around with the CO detector! If that goes off, we are evacuating and calling the FD fast. CO scares the crap out of me. A coworker had hers go off and called and the FD found an issue with her heating system. They said it was a good thing she called them as it could have been very dangerous for her.

Which is shitty of the fire dept. We have alarms for a reason, and if we can't figure out why, then they need to come out and fix it. It's not like you called them for shits and giggles.

For the combo CO/fire alarms this seems....really dumb? on the part of the FD I mean. Unless you have the talking kind that says specifically if it's fire or CO I guess and it's saying fire when there clearly is no fire. But if my CO alarm is going off I'm getting out of the house, even if I suspect it's a false alarm for some reason.

Which would make you smarter than my dh, who fiddled with the alarm for a half hour in the basement before deciding to call someone. The basement was filled with CO, and the alarm was going off for a reason. I was so mad at him after ascertaining that he was ok. He knows better, and yet he still did the "fiddle before calling" routine.

Yeah - I still don’t regret evacuating - I didn’t know the cause and didn’t want us sitting around ignoring it. Similar situation with my mom. It wasn’t burnt toast, lol.

Woohoo! England beat Germany! (Not excited about the future idiocy from The Sun and the little Englanders, but happy for our guys who played their hearts out).

The streak is over! Anyone who beats Germany or France is a-ok in my book!
We called our fire department once when our CO monitor was going off. They were very helpful - no pushback. Turns out it was a false alarm (needed to replace the unit).

Oh also, I would hate to sit by the celebs (looking at you David Beckham in your super fancy suit). They looked so bored while all the other fans were freaking out.

Our power company called to tell us to expect power outages because of the heat here in New England. We have a generator now, but I expected we’d use it for winter storms, not crazy summer heat! I heard on the radio this morning this is the hottest it’s been here since 1991.

Oh, it's hysterical because even the Sun are trying to celebrate him despite one month ago completely slating him with all sorts of racist tropes. They are being called out on twitter so much as are a few England "supporters".
Update to the fire alarm - It was, in fact, a CO alarm that needed batteries that had fallen behind a hutch. She said the fire dept was very nice when they arrived.

DH and I will be having our first out date in a year and a half next week. We'll be hitting a jewelry store to replace his wedding band because his broke (tungsten). I'm slightly hoping I'll get to take something new home too, but probably not.
However, we're going to be eating in a restaurant and I'm so stinking excited.

I do not understand why we can’t get better low battery technology on these. Like how about it figure out when it’s a week away from being low and then just say “low battery”?
Once when we lived in DC, one of our smoke detectors stopped working. But our system was wired all together, so when one malfunctioned, they all beeped. So about every 5-10 minutes, all five smoke alarms would go at full blast for five seconds. I was working from home and had to call my husband to come home because we only had a stepladder and I couldn’t reach the smoke detectors. LOL.
