Agree with waiting til after Christmas, if possible. I got an awesome one from Target several years ago when it was 75% off. It was $60-ish instead of $250.

I bought ours the day after Thanksgiving and always got great deals. Target and Walgreens usually have an early morning door buster in their Black Friday ad.
Ours is from AC Moore (craft store). I think we were able to use MH's teacher discount, although I don't think they accept coupons for Christmas trees.
We looked at others at Target, Lowes, K-Mart, Walmart, and Home Depot.
Ditto the others about waiting until after Christmas and getting something on clearance. And I found a bunch when I was browsing Craigslist before we bought ours last year, so you could always get one there to tide you over until you buy a new one during a sale.
I bought ours at Garden Ridge. They ran a sale all T-giving and it wasn't as good as Black Friday but it was still really good. It's held up extremely well.
We got ours from Walmart last year for $40. It's about 6.5 feet and prelit. They had an awesome sale at the beginning of December last year on Christmas decorations.
We got ours at Sears about 2 weeks before Christmas. They had a huge 50% off sale. I think it's 7 ft. We were also looking at one in Costco. They have some great ones for a decent price but the one in Sears was a little cheaper.
How much are you lookign to spend? We bought ours last year at BJs. I think it was like $120 or $150 for a 7', very nice tree. The difference in quality is HUGE. We looked at Walmart, Target, Home Depot, etc, etc and most of the cheap tress you could literally see right through them. So it was worth it to us to pay more for a better one. Our last one we kept for 7 years, this one should last even longer.
You will get a better deal after Christmas, but the selection will be VERY limited. The tree we bought at BJs was sold out like 3 weeks before Christmas. We thought about waiting too, but we looked after Christmas and didn't like any of the ones that were left, so we were glad we bought ours early. Since we plan to keep it a long time, I really wanted a nice one so it was worth spending a little more.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of CL and then after Christmas pick one up.
I wonder if I can be that patient- I hate being cheap and impatient. It is not a good combo. I think I could stomach $150 for a nice tree. I sometimes have unrealistic expectations when it comes to prices. . .I am just that cheap

I agree with PPs...we bought our artificial tree last year after Christmas to replace the little cheap one we bought a couple of years ago. Regularly $300...cost $74 and it's GORGEOUS.

I have my 1st artificial tree for this year. My dad passed away and I now have his tree - it was only used once. It was at least $1,000 at Front Gate. Prelit, on a stand with rollers and its on storage bag. After hauling it 1,000 miles home, I realized that it has fake snow and pinecones on it! :-(

No, I am just as cheap. Although, in my old age (34) I have started to wise up and pay for quality. I had requirements for my tree (height, pre-lit, white lights, specific # of tips, certain # of lights, no pine cones/snow, etc) and $250 was the cheapest.

I got a 12 footer there after Christmas for 90% off!
