I got DS1 and appointment for this Sunday through our local children’s hospital. Got a follow up email that they have three dates where they are scheduling the second vaccine for those already scheduled for the first. Friday and Saturday both had like three spots when I checked and were gone after I refreshed. Thankfully Sunday had spots so I snagged one. Fingers crossed he doesn’t have bad side effects since he’s supposed to be in school the next day.
It feels like such a burden lifted to have both of these shots scheduled.
The best I could do is CVS on 11/12, but I'll take it! I'm hoping our pediatrician's office might offer something earlier, but they haven't announced yet, and I know they'll have a small supply. Feels good to have it on the books, and then if I find something better, I can always cancel this one.
My daughter is excited to be vaccinated, but she is NOT excited for a shot. She did not hug me. lol
I am headed to take DS for a covid test at 3:30. Coughing, sneezing, fever and at least 1 classmate and 1 teacher out with covid. We were SO CLOSE and I'm so mad at our mask optional school district full of idiots.
Thank you! I just made DD an app't for 11/10 for her first shot at Walgreen's. If her pedi's office offers something sooner I can always cancel, but it feels so good to have it booked.
We are traveling from US to UK this Wednesday. We have a 5 year old. The CVS website says earliest appointment is on Monday. I’m feeling incredibly stressed already just about prepping for and going on the trip. And now I’m just panicking about making a decision on whether to get the kid vaccinated before we go. What if he has bad side effects? Would book for Monday after school, and also don’t want him to miss school on Tuesday as he’s having 7 days off total (then rest of time school is out anyway). I personally don’t see this as much of an issue but it seems to be one for my husband. What should we do?
@iceblink , not to be a debbie downer, but IDK if you will still be able to get an appointment before you leave on Wed. 11/10. A few hours ago, Walgreen's near me had a single 11/9 time left and then a few times on 11/10. CVS had 11/15 at the soonest. Now Walgreen's is scheduling much further out as well. Maybe check to see if it would even be possible before worry about whether you should. Availability may answer the question for you. If you may want it, and still CAN get it, you should grab it. You can always cancel, and I'm confident someone will snap it up.

I would be having the same internal conflict. But I just want to say - it's ok if you wait until you get back to get him the appointment. You were going to take him on the trip regardless, so if you feel too stressed and busy and cramming in the first shot just doesn't work, that's ok. You can give yourself permission to wait. Maybe it would make you feel less stressed if you get an appointment on the books for when you return, so you at least know it's going to happen.

I'd get it done if you can @iceblink. From what I've read if kids have side effects they are typically less severe than what adults experienced and more likely to happen after second dose.
DS has to be vaccinated by our local children's hospital, and spaced apart from treatment days. We have an appointment for next Friday and I am over the moon! I need to call because it wouldn't let me schedule his 2nd shot. My guess is that they give you that date when you're there for #1, as that's how it worked for DH.
I know people are saying that kids often have less side effects than adults but can anyone remind me how long it usually takes to set in? The kids second booster I scheduled for Dec 3 which is a Friday and got early am appointments and then was gonna drop them off at school afterwards. Was hoping any side effects wouldn’t kick in till when they get home. Is this a terrible plan?

My kids are older - 12 and 14. 12 year old had 0 side effects. 14 had minor side effects about 12 hours after her 2nd shot. I think dropping them after would be totally fine.

We have to wait for our pediatrician to start giving the vaccine. DS will not allow anyone he doesn’t know touch or talk to him. The thought of a shot in an open setting is causing me undue anxiety. Fingers crossed they will have some soon.
So I called the pedi and they are giving it to DS today after school! I am so excited! They were a location for 12 and up Covid shots so I guess they were set up and ready to go. Off to go cancel my Walgreens appts. I'm sure somebody will be happy to snag those since I think they are booked up for much further out now.
Got DS in for 11/9. DD turns 5 tomorrow but they won’t let me select the COVID-19 vaccine for her I guess until tomorrow even though the appointment would be for next week.

I got a tip about a local independent pharmacy that's scheduling them for the 5-11 group, so I got DD scheduled for next Thurs. when she's off from school for Veteran's Day. She should be fully vaxxed by Christmas, yay!
