I did our taxes this morning, which was no fun - we owe over $2500 in federal taxes, and we're getting a $600ish state refund so that offsets it on a little. I guess we are now in a higher bracket, because we only made about 12k more than last year but we're paying something like $1300 more net taxes at tax time. I guess we should adjust withholdings for next year. I am especially annoyed because my "big raise" has basically been completely eaten up between higher health insurance costs, making up the lack of retirement contribution, and now this tax difference. I am not really working any harder in this new job so whatever, I guess, but it would have been nicer to finally see some extra money in our budget.
We are meeting friends in the city for dinner/drinks tonight. 3 or 4 of the 6 of us are vegetarians/pescatarians (my H and I are not) so I am blanking on suggestions for where to go for food. I guess I can let them figure out that part. I am looking forward to going out. We haven't been out in the city in quite a while.
No plans tomorrow, so I should probably do some schoolwork. We also need to fix a couple of cabinets/drawers in our kitchen. We are terrible homeowners because stuff like that tends to just end up being avoided - I never want to do it.
I got two whole hours of quiet alone time this morning. I drank two cups of coffee in addition to eating breakfast while I read and then watched some tv. Then DS(5.75) woke up, refused breakfast and barfed. So we'll be spending the day on the couch watching kid shows.
Both kids had regional science olympiad events today, so we got our butts up at 5:30 on a Saturday and dragged ourselves there. It's been a long (fun!) day.
The campus we were on has Starship food delivery robots, and they are just SO adorable in action. I am sad (because come ON- I am not the first person to wonder if I can get my own)- and a little encouraged (because no answer is ostensibly better than a public "nope")- that their FAQs don't address private purchases!
Went to Target yesterday and actually found a bthing suit for my kid that fits and she likes - it was like a minor miracle. But when I got home and looked at the reciept I realized we got charged twice for the suit bottom - I really need topay attention and start looking at recipets before I leave stores. I'm not sure what to do? I think I'm just out that money because I don't know how I prove that we didn't actually get 2 of the exact same item? I'm mainly just bummed at myself for not being more aware.
We also stopped by a local small business that makes really fun & tasty cookies. They're giant so we've been just breaking off pieces of the variety of them. One of the ones we got is a fruity pebbles one and it tastes really good but the texture is strange but I'm not letting that deter me. I'm so happy for this business - they went from almost closing due to lack of business to booming and just recently moved in to a larger space.
MY SIL texted earlier today asking if my kid was available for a sleepover tonight - uhhh, yes, yes she sure is - bye kid!!
It's sunny and 35 here today and I'm stuck on the couch In an aircast/boot, while it seems like everyone I know is out enjoying this weather.
I shouldn't complain because I need the rest. I just started a new job a couple weeks ago and between all the learning and then hobbling around with a bum foot, I have been exhausted every week night.
Today is the last day of my vacation. We spent a week in Disney World and had the best time. Our flight home leaves tonight at 9:45. I hope it all goes smoothly. I’m glad I have a 1 day buffer before returning to work.

bex1973 Target is always awesome for me on things like that. I'd take the receipt to customer service and I bet you get a refund. You may have to show your license. I think they look you up in their system to see if you return a lot and if not they err on your side.
The hunt for my missing shoes continues. I did find an eyeliner that rolled behind my dresser though.
Seriously though. How do I lose a pair of shoes?!
I lost one shoe.....I have no idea how. I think it might have fallen out of the car at work and then got buried under snow before I realized it was gone. However, I won't find out for several more months. lol

Oh this is encouraging! It's kinda far from home so I don't go often and I was not thrilled about driving all the way over there only to have them say they can't help.
bex1973 , I would try taking the receipt back to Target and at least trying. They are usually good about that stuff. One time, when I had a problem, they reviewed the security tape to see what had happened, and everything got straightened out.
I would probably bring the suit too, just to show them what I bought, but I don't know if that is necessary.
Yesterday I was doing the last class yoga class in a Peloton program and managed to pull a muscle in my back. I don't even know how, because nothing hurt/popped during the class, it started hurting about 5-10 minutes after it was over. It's in a different place than all of my other back injuries, and it definitely feels different than my previous back injuries, so it doesn't seem like a reinjury. So lots of ice, ibuprofen, and rest for me this weekend.
But I also just realized I didn't get credit for completing the program, and now I'm annoyed. I do all the work, on all the days, and I injury myself, and I don't even get my damn badge?? WTF Peloton.
In other news, I slept like crap because of the back pain, had my book club this morning, and now I'm procrastinating on calling my parents. It will either be an awkward 5 minute call with my dad, or a painful (re: sad/depressing 20 minutes) of not really talking to my mom, because she's not really with it and can't really hold a conversation anymore. Either way, I'm not looking forward to it, but it needs to be done.
Ok, also learning that one of my friends sings along to any music that is on and she is…not a good singer.
So
I Absolutely adore my Lucy. And she is so good at many things. But her singing is awful. And she’s so earnest about it! It somehow makes it worse. And she affects this weird accent when she does it. She even has the gall to criticize my singing. I can’t listen!

My daughter is also a terrible singer, though good at so many other things. Bless her little heart, she tried out for the school musical 😂

I feel like my kids have no idea how to actually sing. It just is more like spoken word poetry and I have no idea why they are like that!
I was doing really well not doom scrolling. But I can’t stop. Ukraine news has me scrolling and scrolling and scrolling.
It's so hard. I feel like I have a head start as I have been reading a lot about Ukraine in the past few months due to family history. We also went to the Holocaust Museum last weekend, so the parallels with pre-WW II Germany/Poland seem so fresh.

It’s like Dejavu. All 4 grandparents are Ukrainian refugees from WWII and the parallels are unreal.

I lost one shoe of a pair months ago. My H and I looked everywhere. It’s just gone. Total mystery. He bought me a new pair for Xmas. I thought the list shoe would appear after that but not yet. Where does ONE shoe go???

Today was the bonus son’s 10th bday party. I’ve known him for now half his life 😱 It also means that he has more memories of his dad and i than of his parents together 😳😳

You could try doing it through the online email or chat. I forgot what form it is. But once I did a drive up order and had an item missing so I messaged them somehow through the app and they refunded me immediately. It was just ketchup so nothing $$$. It was much easier then I anticipated though and I felt the same how would they really know if I got it or not so I was glad it was easy!
I spent what probably amounted to 7 hours online today making a 27 page photo book of our dearly departed two cats (both passed during the pandemic at ripe old ages). I was putting years on each page and when I entered the last one, 2021, i started sobbing. A good cry. $42 well spent.
