My eye doctor suggested dailies, but I didn't think they were pushing them. It made sense for me because I don't wear them every day (especially with WFH). As for waste, I try to think about how I'm not buying solution but I still hate the waste. I'll have to look into recycling programs, I didn't know that was a thing!
Mine totally did this. (He tried for 2 years in a row, and I caved this year.) The first time buyer rebate brought them down to the cost of my 1 monthers that you can sleep in. I have regret, but was trying to make an effort to not sleep in my contacts anymore.
I have lenses I change monthly, but back in Feb, I got a corneal abrasion and it's one of the worst things I've ever experienced, honestly. I asked my eye doctor what I can do to avoid that never happening again, and he mentioned, in addition to using eye drops multiple times a day to lubricate my eyes, going to biweekly or even daily lenses to help with the dry eye. I have not been back yet but plan to try them out and see if it helps.
However, your wishes should be honored, and I would be annoyed if I stated I wanted to keep my current lenses and the doctor continued to be pushy.

I had this when I was 29. It was very painful. I was already wearing dailies at that point because I had bad giant papillary conjunctivitis when I was 25. So 16 years of wearing dailies until about a year ago I started having trouble focusing up close. Now I have some kind of bifocal dailies but they don't work the way they are supposed to. I totally can't focus up close unless I keep my head at a certain distance when I have them in. On occasion when I have to look carefully in someone's mouth at work, it's nearly impossible for me to see the level of detail necessary with my head so far away. So I wear my glasses nearly all the time and only bought a 90 day supply of dailies. I wear them very sporadically, on days I know I won't have to do anything requiring me to have good vision up close.
I hate when people use pushy sales tactics. I don't know why he would push the dailies on you and then your family. I would be very annoyed and start checking out what others might be saying about the same office before I decide to leave or not. My optometrist said the price of a box of contacts will cost the same no matter where I buy them so I buy through his office. Maybe there's some kind of incentive program, the more boxes you sell, the greater discount on the price you pay to stock the boxes in your office. Some dental companies push their products this way (cough Invisalign cough) and I hate it. I'm going to recommend what I think is best for the patient and not some product I need to push to get to that next level discount tier. I'm not about to play games to get the discount, but so many offices do play the games and make more profit.
