Maybe I misunderstood the interactive and responsive nature of the message board 😶
Please feel free to post as much about ratios as you would like. It’s just not pertinent to me basically playing a Beach Boys song with regards to children’s athletics.
What’s happening here? Also I’m sure this isn’t how you mean to sound foundmylazybum but it sounds like you’re saying kids should be kept from trying stuff because the program YOU worked in was unorganized??
I just looked at the Easter basket thread on MMMoms, this may be an unpopular opinion, not a vent, but when did Easter become the 2nd Christmas? My daughter is 23. I don't remember getting her so much stuff for...Easter.
Agreed - Santa doesn't come to our house for Easter.

I think it was brought up because it’s not realistic for programs to take 30, 40, 50, etc kids for every sport/activity because they need to be supervised and at that many kids you need more than 1 coach which often isn’t realistic.
I'm not trying to be snarky, but no other part of your post was about trans athlete issues, it was about the history of women in sport, so it did not appear that way at all. 🤷♀️
I didn't take it as snarky, there's just so much talk about the number of states voting on this now I thought it was understood.
I assumed you know what you were typing. But I also appreciated a specific call out in case someone else wasn't catching it.
Calling out a dog whistle or discrimination is always worthwhile Even if only one reader learns from that moment.
For some things - like a basketball team with rules about how many players on the court at a time - this makes perfect sense. But there are definitely activities out there that seem to have arbitrary limits when they could include more people.
I have never been in color guard but is there a reason they can’t have more people in the group? Even if they had a smaller “competition guard” that was in the competitions and then a larger group that performed at the games?
I’m thinking of things like - cheerleading, student council, safety patrol, etc.
At some point you don’t have enough coaches to effectively supervise and coach a large number of participants. So if there is one coach, then any more then 15 or 20 would be too much.
Oh this is definitely something I never thought about. Thanks for the perspective
I've gained 20 fucking pounds since August when I started my current job, mostly due to lack of sleep. I'm averaging 5 hours a night but I'm also incredibly happy, except not about the weight gain. I'm hoping once I start my new job in June and have a normal schedule I'll be able to lose this weight. Living in scrubs is nice, but not once you go to put on your real clothes and nothing fits. 😩😩😩

I don’t fuckin know man, I just want the kids to play the sports they want with rainbows in the sky overhead.

I hung out with a friend last night while my partner was out with friends. My friend and I ordered "gourmet" personal size pizzas. I saved the other half in the fridge for today.
My partner came home after 2 am and ate all my damn pizza! Claiming that anything in the fridge is ours, grrrr. He has cooked for me the past 2 days, but that does not negate that I wanted that damn leftover pizza!
We have had several talks regarding leftovers. If it was my meal, I have 48 hours to eat it or let him know he can have it. It sounds silly, but when you are looking forward to eating something only to learn someone else ate it...it is infuriating.
I do not understand this leftover issue. How does one look in the refrigerator, see a meal they did not order, and simply go, “hey, looks good, I’m eating that”? Seriously? How is that ok?
Patsy Baloney, as someone with kids who want to participate but aren’t naturally athletic, I get your point. However, we are in a no-cut district with 2,300 kids in the High School. The result is ridiculously large teams. There are only so many minutes in a game…and so much space on a field. Many kids on teams are lucky to get a couple of minutes of play time all season, despite countless hours of practice.
Things like band are no-cut, but they have limits, too. You can’t have 39 percussionists, 119 flutes, and 1 trombone if you want to have a decent band. I’m not sure where the line is between encouraging kids to try things and developing a high quality program that allows those who are talented, driven, and have aspirations of continuing involvement in the sport/program to continue to improve.
We got a new couch yesterday. DH took the 2 old very worn out couches to the dump. We ALL kept offering to help, but he declined. Fine, whatever, but we have a love seat that needs to be moved downstairs still. Instead, my living room is full of couch. I’m super annoyed he didn’t take help. And he’s gone today. I’m willing to bet that it’ll be here all week if I’m not pushy. Lol
Last month my friend visited me on a domestic flight and lost her wallet and did not have ID to flight home. It was NBD. She checked in with TSA and they cleared her through security. Something about it being a return flight helped.
How long has the passport been expired? I was just at the airport and the TSA person said expired passports are good for travel (domestically - for ID purposes) for an additional 90 days or 9 months, not sure how long.
Um….8 years? Ha!
Thank you for all the reassuring replies! I’ve got all the electronic things to show -taxes, work emails, health insurance, 401k -anything they want! Plus the photo with my license also has my DHs license on it so they can verify his…I’ll go early.
My wallet was found! Supposedly with everything in it per the report. I can’t get it until tomorrow (at Disney lost and found). Huge relief.
The housing situation here is dire. So dire that I see Estate Sale signs and my first thought is “hmmm…that house should be coming on the market soon!” I am going to hell
We had at least three couples “shop” MIL’s estate sale….with their Realtors. I had our Realtor’s coming soon info at the sales counter and several people took copies. We were under contract in 16 hours.
My vent is that my H was being judgy yesterday about my DS (5) not having much appropriate clothing to wear for a funeral we had to go to. He kept saying "we really need to get him some nicer clothes" but by "we" he definitely meant "me." Sorry, I don't have funeral clothes laying around for a 5 year old who grows out of shit regularly. I used to have a few nicer things for him for when we'd go to church on holidays or whatever but that was pre Covid. On that note, anyone have suggestions on where I can pick up some decently priced khakis and button-ups? Now that he's out of toddler sizes I have no idea where to shop lol.
ETA he wore gray corduroys and a button up and didn't look that bad, so I don't know why H was so pissy. But H is a really good dresser and I am...not.
Anytime my husband uses “we” in this type of context, I call him out for using “the condescending we.” Makes me bonkers.
Vent: I’ve been up since 4am and can’t get back to sleep. I’m just laying in bed stressing about business stuff.
Update, 4am again and I’m aware and worrying. FML
Same. I fall asleep just fine, then get up to go to the bathroom and usually some word (usually the name of an employee) pops in my head and I just flop around for the next few hours. A friend told me that she says “my only job right now is to sleep” over and over while she tries to drift back to sleep. Sometimes it works, sometimes I still flop around, stressing. I probably need to cut back on liquids earlier so that I don’t have to get up to go to the bathroom. Actually, I need to set up a whole sleep routine because I’m so tired of being tired.

I always say: "We? Do you have a mouse in your pocket?" Someone I worked with forever ago said that & it stuck with me LOL
I didn’t expect my vent to get this much attention.
DD did not make the team. TR made gave good points about not everyone should throw around a 6ft flag or wooden riffle.
Ugh, I am sorry she didn't make the team. Yesterday I saw a request for those entering hs to try out for color guard. However, the request mentioned you didn't need any experience...but I thought well wtf does one need to do to actually do in order make it at some point (whether this or next year....). It should be a little more clear.

This is so so wrong on FI part. You should ask; you don't get to eat someone elses left overs without asking. I'd be upset too!

This is also how DH and I operate! There were a lot of cases of my food disappearing so we decided that I have a window of 24 - 48 to eat it, and if I don't eat it by that time, it's fair game :-P It works for us now and I don't get grumpy when he eats all the leftovers!

That’s why I mentioned it being like getting a job. You need experience but how do you get it? We don’t have a 6ft weighted pole laying around to practice
