A neighbor who LOVES heels - she actually got rid of most of them. Between never wearing them - they now just HURT - and then also not having a reason to wear them, she finally said "good bye!"
Oh man. I can’t even bare to think about my shoes. I love heels. They don’t hurt yet. And, frankly, they are mostly all pricey shoes (I quit cheap shoes years ago).
I currently have my work wardrobe folded in a plastic garbage bag in my closet. It was taking up a ton of space but I wasn't ready to let it go because I spent $$$ on it.
Someday I know I will donate it, just not yet. I have found that in the past I am most motivated to donate stuff when I find an organization I support. I would like to get this stuff in the hands of people who need it and can receive it for free. I know there are a lot of great organizations that do this for work clothing, I just need to bite the bullet and do it.
I also like to watch/listen to YouTube minimalist channels if I need some motivation.
Winner winner!! I think I will do this. Like bag/box up everything and then move it elsewhere for some period of time. I know my H will get on to me if it’s sits too long. And our basement is clean/dry.
YES! I *will* start this process this weekend (I have 4 days with the holiday)

I have WFH'd so long that my wardrobe is basically lounge clothes, workout stuff and travel clothes. I only wear the working-professional stuff if I am traveling, and that can be up to a week at a time.
I have trimmed it down over time, but I do still like buying a new piece or dress once or twice a year when I have a long conference or something. So I could definitely purge more. And probably should.
The thing that is hardest for me is shoes. I have two pairs of Dansko heels that are tolerable and beyond that I have gone 100% Rothys, because they are the only shoes I have that I can go from being barefoot 90% of the time to walking six or seven miles a day at a conference, and they don't chew up my feet. But I haven't quite been able to chuck my various heels in the donation box, occasionally they do get worn for church or a night out.
I have a bad feeling we WILL get recalled to the office in the next 6 months. I've kept most of my work clothes from pre-COVID. I wore a "work uniform" for years. Black or grey pants, black loafers, a long or short sleeve cardigan depending on the season. It makes life easier.
I’m in the same boat. I feel like I should keep my dress clothes in case I need them. Our office says to come in 2-3 days a week, but it’s up to your manager if you really have to. I, and most people in my location do not come in. My direct team is overseas, so if I do go to the office, I don’t work with anyone there. I will probably travel 1-2 weeks a year and I usually pack dresses and 2 pairs of slacks and a few tops with cardigans.
We’re renovating our closet at home, so I’ve packed up all my clothes and will need to organize with my new closet organizer. Maybe seeing all my clothes will make me donate some? I am on camera almost every day but usually wear plain shirts with a cardigan (my home office is cold) or a sweater and jeans.
I got rid of many of my dressier clothes from pre-COVID (most of them were getting old and worn or didn’t fit anymore).
After existing in sweats and workout clothes for 3 years, I ordered some nicer clothes online (2 pants, 3 tops and a dress). I’m going to spend 2 weeks in the home office in February and want to make a non-slob impression. Also, I’m craving the feeling of being pulled together.

We're doing 3 days a week in office, but even in office clothing has become more casual. I purged dresses I didn't like, didn't see myself wearing any longer. I kept 3 dresses total (work type) that can be used almost all year round. I got rid of a lot of skirts as I really don't wear them and only kept 2-3 that are comfy and I'll actually wear for work or when going out for a nice dinner. I now have a lot more long cardigans, sweaters & other tops, which I wear both at home and office, as well as comfy dark jeans/trousers which I can wear to work and at home.
I decided when I moved to London that I just didn't care if people saw me wearing a lot of the same things over and over because wardrobe space is at a premium here. I care less now.

So I realize that that what I have is no comparison to historic homes, but part of why I *need* to do this is I am spilling out of my closet. The closets we have are downright huge for the era of the house (1968), but small for 1990+. We actually have two bedrooms with walk in closets, though I’d call them more “step in”. Once you are in, you can reach everything. And then that just really emphasizes the ridiculousness of the American wardrobe. I like the idea of fewer pieces that last a long time.
I've done some purging, based on whether or not I truly like something. When I had to go into an office 5 days a week, I had a bunch of clothes that were fine, but I didn't love them. I just needed something to put on my body (and didn't need to be ironed). Now I only have things I truly love. I personally love clothes/putting together outfits so I still have much more than I "need", but it's all good stuff.
I am in office 100% of te time and my office is still dressy. Which is very annoying.
But if anyone is getting rid of size 10 work dresses, send me a DM please! I need some new things but prefer to buy second hand for environmental reasons.
