We do $1, except for the time our kid lost her second tooth on a weekend trip and we couldn't find cash. That time, we put a little plastic animal that we found in the parking lot under her pillow and she thought it was super cool. 🤪

I think I gave $2 for the first, but it could have been $5 and $1 for the additional teeth. DD no longer believes in the tooth fairy, but I still give her $1. I give the dollar coins.
As a kid I got $26 for my first tooth due to confusion and zero communication among the 4 adults in the house. The look my mom gave my grandfather that morning could have killed someone. I was so bummed to get 50 cents for my second tooth.
My parents tossed all our teeth, when I asked my mom what I was supposed to do with DDs teeth she seemed confused and horrified that I would do anything but throw them away.
$5 for the first; $1 for the rest. I lucked out with slow/late tooth-losers, because my 5th and 6th graders have both only lost 8 teeth each and now they know the truth about the fairy.
Lol, my kid lost her teeth early before her friends even started so she never found out about other kids getting money from a tooth fairy. We just planted it like I said in the other thread and moved on.
I opened this thread having no idea what the title meant. I was thinking ... to clean them? I have no kids clearly. LOL
Over the summer a friend's daughter lost a tooth at my house and she forgot it there (and forgot to play Tooth Fairy) ... the next day I texted her like, "Umm did you want that tooth or am I cool to throw it out??"

I had late tooth-losers, and they would straight up ask for cash when they lost one. DD would sometimes leave a lengthy note asking for $1,000 along with a carefully packaged tooth.
$1. The same $1 gold coin I raid from his drawer {ducks}. Though he lost a tooth when we were on vacation last summer and my husband had a random $2 bill he got as change in his wallet so the NJ tooth fairy pays out better than the PA fairy.
$5 for first tooth (paid in $2 bills and $1 gold coins). $1 coin for all other teeth.
We are coming up on the last couple teeth and I kind of love the idea of celebrating with a bigger payout. Especially since she's 11 and still believes!

Our tooth fairy leaves $1 plus currency from another country - “wherever she flew in from”.
But I believe start small. If you start with $5 they will expect that the next time and be disappointed that it’s less. (Unless you tell them tooth fairy leaves more for fist tooth, I guess).

once when I was a kid I swallowed my tooth and I freaked out about it and my grandparents who were visiting us shushed me because they wanted to hear what was on 60 minutes. I felt so sad that I lost my tooth and that my wonderful grandparents were mad at me about it (not the case, just how I perceived it as a 5 year old.) I remember sobbing to my mom who clearly told grandparents how I felt; that night bubbie and poppop toothfairy left a hundo under my pillow.
Also, related to the 2 dollar bill thing; every year for any hallmark occasion, my other grandmother sent all grandkids a $2 bill. Easter, Christmas, 4th of July, Halloween, etc. By the time HS came around I was rolling in 2 dollar bills and used them to buy gas or snacks at school, etc.
A HUNDO?! Â Amazing.Â
lol at you spending your $2 bills. It took me a long time to believe they could be spent just like any other currency, and to this day, I've never spent one. Just feels weird!
For a few years H would go to the bank and buy a strap of $2 bills to spend everywhere, to draw attention. The bank started keeping them on hand for him, but he still had to wait the 20 minutes or whatever it was in the lobby for the lock delay safe to open.

I keep a roll of gold dollar coins hidden away. $2 per tooth. $5 for the first I think. When DS had to have two pulled suddenly for cysts two days before Christmas 2019, I did $10 each. He was in a lot of pain and had to have a soft diet most of his winter break. I meant to do $20 for his last tooth but I didn’t realize it was the last one when it happened. She might make an encore visit when he gets his braces off . We still have a believer in DD so we have fun with it.

We’ve been doing $5 generally but sometimes it’s random like a pile of coins or a mix of bills and coins. When ds1 was learning to count money he was fascinated by it so that time he got a pile of coins to count because the tooth fairy knew he likes counting money.
$1. My eldest found out about Santa/TF while he still had teeth to lose. The best was when his younger brother went to bed & he was like “here’s my tooth. Can you just add a dollar to my account?” (At the time, we kept a spreadsheet & acted as their bank)
My H’s tradition was putting the tooth in a glass of water on the dresser. If you haven’t started TF duty yet, that’s A LOT easier than rooting around under the pillow. We had to revert to this bc we couldn’t find it one night without potentially waking the kid up. Tooth fairy left a sick note, an apology & asked for it to be in a glass for the next night.

We use a glow in the dark tooth box that they keep on their nightstand. We bought it after my son’s second tooth was never found by the tooth fairy. My kids have lost several teeth on weekend trips and vacations so now the tooth box lives in my travel bag along with a baggie of gold coins.

We always put the tooth in a good sized ziploc baggie - much easier to find under the pillow. I can’t imagine rooting around for a single tooth!

It was in a quart bag, I suspect inside his pillow as a test.

$1, but one of the golden dollars.
Parenting "hack" to make this work - go to the bank and get $20 worth, all at once (or 20 x however many kids you have), and keep the stashed in your sock drawer, or whatever. then you have them ready to go when teeth fall out, and you don't have to scramble to find one.
So our typical is $1 for "normal" tooth loss, but I bumped it to $5 when we had to have a few pulled by the dentist for braces/orthodontic work.

We did one better. We convinced our kids that they don’t want to chance the tooth fairy waking them and scaring them, so their teeth go in a little pouch outside their bedroom door under a guest room pillow. Bonus- we see the pillow in the hallway on the way to bed ourselves, so we can run back downstairs to get the money for the exchange when we inevitably forget!
We started with $10 for tooth #1 for kid #1 because his shark tooth involved such a long, painful process to come out. We felt bad for him. So now it’s $10 for the first and $5 for the rest

I unfortunately never had kids but reading this made me realize how many of our childhood "things" are "strangers" creeping around our house. Tooth Fairy, Santa, Easter Bunny.
I received a few dollars each as a child and also found my teeth collection in later years.
