I'm not looking for anything more than a mildly enjoyable 15 minutes from the half time show, so I really enjoyed it. I guess I'm easy to please, but I thought Rihanna's performance was visually impressive, and everyone but my H knew all the songs (He apparently had Rihanna confused with Arianna Grande LOL).
When the super bowl comes around next year, I will have absolutely zero memory of who performed this year, and I'm OK with that. I don't need it to be life changing.
It may be partially the fact that I am occasionally a very contrary creature, but I've come to the point where I've decided I LOVED that show. Every bit of it. The fact that she came out in a bulky outfit knowing full well people were going to expect her to strip to less at some point, and instead put on MORE clothing. A whole ass sleeping bag. Yes. The fact that she felt zero need to step up her own dancing or add random quick changes or clutter it up with guest stars. Just Her in head to toe attention grabbing red with a fuckton of backup dancers wearing hoodies made of duvets and some floating platforms, rubbing her belly and knowing we're all going "wait...is she.... " I'm not even a fan in any meaningful way, but like, it was enjoyable, I know all those songs, it was fun to watch, and I felt a moment of kinship with a famous person when she looked up and just smiled at the crazy fireworks while they lit up her face golden. My needs were met.
My needs were less met by the field conditions. can we talk about that some more? How the fuck was that ok?

I loved her performance too, and her coat was a tribute to Andre Leon Talley

I don't understand how a field is that bad when it's inside and only goes outside to get a sun tan once in a while. Did you see the video of them rolling it outside?

I have seen it before, didn't see it this time. The shot of the divots being pushed back in during halftime by an army of people was something.

There are 30 NFL stadiums (2 are shared by 2 teams) and fully SIXTEEN of them have real grass. How?! And in Arizona?!
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Field was awful. I’m surprised no one got hurt the way they were slipping all over.
dare I ask what folks thought of the last call? 😭
The holding call on the Eagles? Initially we thought it wasn't when we viewed it, but then the player straight up admitted it in a post game interview and had hoped the ref would let it slide.

I thought I heard them say that this was some new kind of grass? Apparently the field conditions were awful all season. I’m not sure how this is okay for the effing SUPER BOWL.

Yup. I mean, it was a hold…but looked fairly minor and I wouldn’t have called it at that point in the game. It basically decided that game, and I hate when reffing does that. Before y’all @ me, I know it was a penalty but I have seen refs step out of close big games because they don’t want to be the story and unfortunately, they are.

That hold call was trash and it wouldn’t have affected the play anyway since the ball wasn’t anywhere near him. We had a chance to bring it back and instead they got a first down on an absolute garbage call and they got to run the clock down.
Thank you mods for editing the title. I had stepped away.
I had the tv muted so I missed some commercials.
My takeaway is that she is not afraid of heights. I could see the safety strap, but I also saw the platform wobble for a moment and didn't know how she could barely hold the mic stand when I would be gripping it with both hands.
Hmmm, next year... maybe it's time for Garth, Tim, and Shania. I don't even like country but I feel like they are overdue. Or go back the the 90s with Green Day and Alanis.
It was touching to see so many tears from the Eagles coach during the anthem. Made me assume he really appreciated being there.

meganew, the next day commentary was saying as much. That they could have called this throughout the game on both teams, but didn't, so calling it then seemed like a choice.

Greenday and Alanis would be awesome. They haven't really had a rock band since 2016 (Coldplay) and no I don't count Maroon 5 lol. I like when they have a mix of performers from different types of music.

lol. Yeah, I didn't 'really count them either, but figured technically they are classified as rock lol. I think.

the eagles (and soccer's Union) use the same type of grass without issue. it's however they planted it/care for it.
which, i get is harder in AZ than PA, but truly, professional groundskeepers should absolutely know how to handle this and it seems very obvious that they didn't. and the KC kicker had been hurt earlier in the year on this specific field?!? come onnnnn what an embarassment.

I may have to change my assessment…my friend sent me a tik tok with the ASL interpreter and she’s giving me all the energy and excitement I wanted lol. She’s great!
