I have a Google pixel phone, and it does the most random stuff that drives me crazy. All google results are in km (maps app), pounds (any results with a price attached), or French right now. I went through to change it and there is absolutely no option for English. Like it's not a listed language. I've watched YouTube videos and am not an idiot, but it's just not there to choose.
I'm annoyed, and annoyed with technology. I got mad at apple bricking my iphone so I switched, but this phone has the quirkiest stuff go wrong so idk what to change to next. I'm also too young to be this bothered by technology lol.
My dad has very generously and unexpectedly offered to pay for us to put a pool in our new house. We were talking about how it's our plan to do it a few years from now, and he said he'd like to be able to give this gift to DD now while she's still young to maximize the time she will get to enjoy it for, like my sister and I did with our childhood home pool. But I'm not sure he has an idea of just how expensive inground pools have become, and there are a lot of "side" costs like redoing the lawn after they destroy it and whatnot. We have SO MUCH lawn though and this will help us get rid of a good deal of it. We would need a pretty large pool for it to look right in our yard. In doing the research and talking with friends who have recently installed pools, we are pretty interested in fiberglass. Some friends we know just had one installed and it's beautiful. It's cheaper than gunite but more durable than vinyl, and a much faster install than gunite. Anyone here familiar with fiberglass pools that could share some pros and cons?
We had a fiberglass pool installed in Feb/Mar. It was also a gift from my parents and was about $95k. We did a 16x36 with a tanning ledge with bubblers and a water spiller feature wall. It's the D36 on this website: www.riverpoolsandspas.com/fiberglass-pool-shapes
That did not include landscaping and the fence, which we covered.
I love it. Install was painless as we have an accessible yard and didn't have a fence yet. There was water in it by the end of day 2. We did end up splurging on a heater because they had one they had installed and then took out, so we got it about 30% off and it has been worth it.
I don't have any recent pictures online, but this was just after they did the pool deck concrete. The patio we did back in 2016/2017.
ETA: We have a massive yard, 3/4 of an acre. So we still have a lot to mow.
This is so helpful, River Pools is the site I've been looking at and watching the educational videos. I love that the pricing includes all the details and even the first water fill. I'm curious if they will need a crane to lift ours in though. We have access on both sides of the house and could remove the fence, but I don't know if that access is big enough. H is CONVINCED that a pool will not cost less than $150K because our friends did one that cost $175K, but their situation was different. They could only do gunite because they bordered wetlands and the water table was so high, but we don't have that problem. I'm going to attach a photo of our yard, but we'll be putting in a patio adjacent to the house next month, then a pathway to where the pool would go. I feel like we could do a pool for under $100K if we don't go nuts with options. Did you do saltwater?
This is the yard just after micro seeding, before we moved in. It’s all lawn now, but we are going to cut it off where our next door neighbors fences end, fence across and let the land behind that go wild. No one needs this much lawn!
L is sick and on his third day of prednisone, so he is alternately incredibly whiny about EVERYTHING (literally he told me not to breathe earlier) and literally the smiling devil emoji creating chaos and finding it hilarious. I feel like I should warn daycare that I will be sending them a Tasmanian devil rather than a human child tomorrow.
Our toddler is also a whiny, chaotic mess on prednisone (we call it baby roid rage)! We ended up not warning daycare about it, because he behaves way better for them anyway lol
Does anyone else lose all ability to make any decisions when hungry? Once again, H (who rarely even eats lunch) ate what I was planning to have for lunch and now I’m hungry and the only option here is scrambled eggs and toast which I had for breakfast and it’s 100 degrees outside so I don’t want to go outside and I don’t want to hear how we’re spending too much money if I DoorDash something and I’m AWARE of how RIDICULOUS this sounds. Does anyone else’s mind just break when you’re hungry?
Have you talked to him about this? It is incredibly annoying how often this seems to happen to you.
And yes. If I get too hungry/low blood sugar my brain cannot process things normally and make decisions.

My sister, bless her, is trying to help me pick clothes for some photos, but she’s making me crazy. Our styles are 100% different, she loves frilly and flouncy, I hate anything with a ruffle or that looks like it may be itchy. She’s 5’1 and maybe a size 10. I’m 5’9” and a size 22, so she doesn’t get it. Her newest thing is a midi dress, which makes my thick calves look enormous. I’m trying to politely reign her in, because she will be offended when I don’t pick something she chose.
We switched from Comcast to YouTube TV a year ago and no regrets! I still have Bravo, HGTV, etc on there.
This is what we have and it's like $60 or $70 a month. We also pay separately for internet obviously but if anyone is paying $200 for cable/internet, you can probably save at least $50 a month by switching to a streaming cable service.

That's interesting - which version of the Pixel do you have? I am asking because my H has had this issue recently- we went to Turkey and when we came back, everything was still in Turkish. He actually started using a different browser instead of Chrome because he could not figure out how to set it back to normal. I think he has the 5a?
I have the 7 and have not had this issue, even though we (obviously) traveled together and I used my phone constantly when we were in Turkey!

I think this is only the second or third time it's happened, but I complain here every time LOL he did notice I was just standing in the kitchen bewildered so I told him what happened and was very clear that it wasn't anything he did WRONG because it's not like I made it clear that I was going to eat those leftovers. I will be sure to let him know when I'm planning to use something particular for lunch in the future haha

A pool costing 100k+ makes that thread about paying $1000 for a summer pool pass seem so much more reasonable! Holy crap how does anyone afford anything?
starburst604 my parents have a fiberglass pool and they have been thrilled with it. I think they've had it 5-6 years now and they have had no issues and find it very easy to maintain. They use saltwater. They also live in a relatively rural part of the Houston area, so the 30kish they spent on theirs is probably really hard to compare to your area. My sister's kids live next door and use it almost daily in the warm months, so I do agree it's good to get one while your kid is young enough to get to enjoy it growing up!

Glad it worked out!! This was always a pet peeve of mine as a kid, then H would eat my leftovers as like a midnight snack. He had to learn quick 🤣

wildrice ugh I know, that's why we thought a few years out, we need to save up for that! My dad sold a property last year for quite a return so he's been feeling really generous since then! Like everything else in MA, pools are $$$$, especially since the quarantine when everyone realized they wanted one. Glad to know your parents love theirs, I didn't even know about them until recently when we started considering our options and it seems like a great choice for us. I realize it's ridiculous to consider a dog with such a large purchase, but we have a young lab and it feels mean to get a vinyl pool that he can't jump into, but the concrete ones are big bucks and take forever to build.

And also, I'm an only child so I have a hard time when something I expect to be there isn't there when I didn't eat it lol

DD was an only for 8 years. It is so hard to break her for the it’s all min mentality. But that’s your food! You ate 1/2 of it. He can’t eat it. I would throw down over it.

It also can increase urination. Ask me how I know. Thank god it was just a 3 day course, so maybe tomorrow we won't have a constantly hungry, peeing monster on our hands.

Maybe in konapoppy's situation, but in mine they were joint leftovers from a dinner cooked at home. So. TOTALLY fair that he ate them, it just was a not great coincidence that I was counting on them for lunch because he usually doesn't eat lunch. I ASSumed lol silly me
I just listened to the latest Maintenance Phase podcast about Brittany Dawn and it made me so mad. What a garbage can of a human, both her and her H.
Did it say anything about how her husband shot their dog instead of taking it to the vet after it was hit by a car? They seem so horrible. And of course they're crazy cakes level of "Christian" too.
I got a mammogram this morning then went to IKEA and the post office. I’m not sure which stop was more exhausting but I’m ready for nap. At least it’s over and it’s still Monday morning?
I read this as "I got a mammogram at Ikea" and thought, man, that place really does have everything.

If it was IKEA they’d probably have some cozy ergonomic machines so I’d do it!

Same! Also, when something isn’t where *I* left it.
I have a girls trip planned in January, it’s a cruise. I should get a roommate, but also… I don’t share a room well. So I only kind of want to. (And this probably makes zero sense compared to most girls trips, but it’s the way this one - a charter cruise - tends to work. People find their own roommates and it just happens that it’s a bunch of girlfriends going)

Me, too! And I've never actually been to an Ikea! lol
I have stuff I want to do outside, but I know that as soon as I start, the people that need to check in today will show up and I'll have to come back inside. Oldest kid could check them in, but they aren't super comfortable doing that yet so I was going to hang out inside until they show up in case kid wants me to check them in instead.
I'm also super hungry and want to start cooking dinner but also know they will show up as soon as I start that, too. It's like a watched pot that won't boil.....
yupthisismyae, without the context of drinking, that seems like absent mindedness. Like, how much was he drinking before dinner to forget the meal? I guess I’m just thinking of people I’ve seen blackout-inducing drunk, and can’t imagine getting to the point of having them sitting down at a table and eating. How much had he had before each of these?
That said, I’m totally with you that it’s concerning that someone is drinking enough, say sitting around the house and having a normal life conversation about buying something. I’m biased though, as I don’t drink and get annoyed by run of the mill having multiple drinks sitting around the house doing normal life stuff.

yupthisismyae I feel like I need more information. I can't imagine someone being blacked out but still capable of having a normal dinner or conversation about a purchase, so I'm not sure whether you're aware in the moment that he's super drunk but only find out the next day just how drunk or if he's seemingly fine and then turns out to have been totally wasted? Is this out of the blue? How do you feel about it - you can feel however you feel, you don't need us to tell you! FWIW I'd feel icky about it because that's not a normal thing for my partner, me, our circle, people I consider fully functioning adults...and I'd be really concerned about him and wanting to get to the bottom of the cause of this behavior.
My kid is going to overnight camp and I'm terrified at the state her clothes will come home in. She is trying to insist on bringing a suitcase, but an old duffle will suit just fine. She's lucky I am not insisting on a black garbage bag.
I just unpacked my 9 y/o DS’ bag and it was way better than expected. I’m not sure everything came home (I know he lost all of his shoes other than the ones on his feet) but I was certainly expecting it to be much worse!

It doesn't have to be "blackout" like people usually think of where it's related to acute drinking, in order for memory loss to be alcohol-related. People can develop alcohol-related dementia (or other neurological problems) due to excessive drinking over many years. My alcoholic uncle did. I can't remember a time when he didn't drink excessively, but he was "functional" for most of his life, then he started to get forgetful, and eventually could not recognize people or care for himself. He had to go into a nursing home in his late 50s and died young. The trajectory isn't all that different than something like Alzheimers, but it's not technically Alzheimers--the neurological damage is from the alcohol abuse.
yupthisismyae, like many things associated with alcoholism, I don't know that there is much that you personally can do, it's going to depend largely on your H and his willingness to seek treatment and/or help. You can find a peaceful moment to bring up your concerns and see what happens, if you think you are safe. But this isn't in your head and if your red flags are going up, that's probably a good indication that something is very wrong.

Thank you for the replies thus far.
After the first (restaurant) incident we discussed it — I think because I was so taken aback that he didn’t remember it. He agreed it was because he had been drinking.
He lost about 80-ish pounds a year ago (what I mean is, he reached that goal weight a year ago after over a year of work) and he said it was because he’s having a hard time judging alcohol in his new lighter body. But he finished losing a year ago so…. I think he really believed what he was saying, but I’m not sure I do.
