It took every ounce of self control to not respond with a coworker's mansplaining with "I'm not a effing idiot"'
I love Ask a Manager for responses to mansplaining "Well, of course." "You do realize that is a basic part of my job I perform daily." "I notice you frequently explain basic level tasks to me. What gives?"
When my HSA card has been declined, it's because my balance was too low to cover whatever it was I was trying to charge. Any chance that's the case for you?
ETA: Actually, never mind. This is your H's problem.
Another random - Im feeling very, “I fought the law, and I won” today.
My oldest and her cousin go to GS camp together every year for a week in the summer. This past week, they went to a water camp where they were supposed to be out in a lake in some kind of floating vessel every day, weather permitting.
They reported they didn’t do anything on the lake. They just swam in a pool and did crafts (much to my disdain as a 100% kid craft hater)
I complained and asked for a refund. And got it! They also offered them a free week of camp from the remaining weeks left. We declined, because scheduling wouldn’t work and why would we send them again when they had such a bad experience the first time?
It does make me sad because my daughter ages out after this year, so this was their last year to be campers together. But I’m glad we got money back - too damned expensive for pool time and popsicle sticks!
Did they give you a reason for no lake time (just because I'm curious)? So weird to advertise it one way and then it never happened.
“Uneven program application across age groups”
From what they described - there was lake time. However, the oldest group’s counselors just didn’t…do it with them? They just recently got a new camp director at the site and she is hard-way learning everything. She can’t seem to save herself from any kind of fuckup.
Patsy Baloney, reminds me of when I went to GS camp and all of the programs that didn't have enough girls sign up got put together. So I was there for tennis, some were art, and I can't remember a third.
I guess looking back my mom should have made more of a fuss, but the GS program is so poorly run, I'm not sure it would have mattered. I think the only program that had enough applications was horseback riding.
When my HSA card has been declined, it's because my balance was too low to cover whatever it was I was trying to charge. Any chance that's the case for you?
ETA: Actually, never mind. This is your H's problem.
Patsy Baloney did you complain to the camp leader or higher up? We had a really negative experience this year and I totally got the brush off. Camp was over $700 and completely disorganized. Last year, my daughter was at the other GS camp in our area, and the difference was night and day.
My appointment was completely fine. Zero change to my gums in a year. So I’ve been obsessing over this for months for no reason. I’m such a weirdo.
Another annoyance- H has a high deductible health plan and an HSA, and I am not on his insurance bc I have my own, but I’ve used the HSA for various expenses in the past. I paid for all my Invisalign with it 2 years ago. Just tried to use the card at the periodontist and it was declined. No idea why that would be. It doesn’t expire until 2024. It was also declined in May when I tried to buy glasses on Zenni but I thought maybe that was a fluke. I asked him to look into it since it isn’t my damn HSA so we know how that will go, I’ll have to keep bugging him about it until that gets done.
If they had asked for receipts for previous expenses and didn’t get them, they’ll lock the card down. It’s an easy fix, but your H will have to deal with it still. Best of luck! Lol

So, I have a pretty gnarly history with our council and have actually been told I’m on a “do not call” list of sorts, that they don’t like to put anything in writing with me, lol. I’m a known quantity with them. Anyway…
I went to the boss of the camp director with a friendly but stern email asking for a refund with a screen shot of the camp guide and list of the activities my daughter told me they did. I assumed they were likely to call my daughter a liar and defend themselves and was prepared to meet with the council CEO to give her a piece of my mind and fully quit scouts. However, the camp director called me back the next business day after I sent my email confirming my refund and with the camp offer.
I was shocked, but they also know I will fight and fight and fight. I don’t know if they would have responded so swiftly if I wasn’t such a bitch in past dealings.
My hot flashes this week are OOC. I haven't had them this bad in months.
I have new respect for one of my grad school professors from 23 years ago. Mid lecture she paused "Sorry, I have a river running between my boobs". I learned much more than the subject matter at hand from her.

Took DD and a friend to the playground and a group of 3 kids showed up, no idea where the parents were, kind of think they walked there alone. The oldest boy was throwing mulch at all the other kids there and repeatedly shouting "Boys are strong like King Kong, girls are weak chuck 'em in the creek". Inside my head I was screaming STFU you little Asshole!

Possible TW for those with doctor fears.
My skin biopsy went to shit. What was discussed vs what happened was two different things. All of it was out of the doctor’s control and was explained as a possible rare occurrence. I was hoping for a small cut with maybe 2 sutures. It ended with cauterization, 10 external sutures a few internal ones, and a 1.5-2 inch incision. The spot was a lot larger underneath. The dermatologist was amazing at explaining everything and letting me know what my next steps are. Path reports should be back next week. She is hopeful it’s a benign cyst. She did say she can tell I wear sunscreen and do a great job protecting my skin.
This could not have been in a worse spot either. It’s right where my bra strap sits and my shoulder blade ends. No lifting or stretching for 12-14 days. Also cautious when driving. I am going to discus WFH options since I’m going to need to leave my bra off

Thanks! That gives me incentive to complain about this one!
It is freezing in the office today. Why? I should have brought in a fleece.
My H and I are in a war with the neighborhood critters. We feed the birds, but the squirrels have been really greedy with our suet feeder and we are going through it too quickly, so I bought a higher pole to keep them off. That didn't work (though it caused some spectacular acrobatics!) so we bought a baffle to keep them off. Now we are pretty sure the racoons are taking the baffle down and stealing it anyway. This is all after we replaced our normal feeder with a squirrel proof one AND started feeding the squirrels corn separately in our backyard. I guess we are going to have to take down the feeders overnight. We just want the woodpeckers to visit! But it's become a battle of wills and they are winning.
My dad used to use a bebe gun to shoot at rabbits eating the garden, and my H and I thought he was nuts for doing that. We are starting to understand the urge now, lol. We will NOT do anything to harm them, but they are such cute little assholes!
May I recommend Mark Rober's squirrel olympics videos on you tube? Squirrels are surprisingly smart and athletic. I mean, these won't help you deter the squirrels, but they'll give you a good laugh and possibly give you some insight as to why most conventional squirrel deterrents are ineffective.
I honestly get just as much enjoyment from watching the squirrels as I do the birds! The only problem is that they are so damn greedy - if we put out a suet cake, they eat the whole thing in a day. The birds take 1-2 weeks to eat it! We can't be spending $100+ a month on critter food, so we need to either give it up or get them to stop. The squirrels are so cute though, and I'm amazed at how well their little feet hold them when they are dangling from a pole trying to eat the food.
I am truly not one to judge people's COVID precautions, but I am confused by people still wearing cloth masks, especially below their nose. Like do it or don't, but what are you accomplishing here? Have they not read a COVID update since like June 2020? Brought to you by airport people watching.
I always wonder this too. Nobody is making you wear a mask, so you must be wearing it because you are concerned about COVID. If you are concerned about COVID, why wouldn't you buy masks that actually work AND wear them properly? I can't imagine choosing to put a piece of fabric over my face that doesn't really do much of anything when I have better options abundantly available to me. Surgical masks are cheap and can be bought so many places now!

Question for anyone who does a massage/facial monthly membership type thing. Do you tip on the “member” price or the “regular” price? In this case it was $75 for members, $145 for regular so $15 vs $29.
Does anyone else let an appointment that they're dreading ruin their whole week? I have my yearly appointment with my periodontist today. I had a gum graft 10 years ago on one tooth so I get followed up every year. Just in the last year or so I've noticed the gum on another tooth receding so I am terrified about what he is going to say about that today, and it's literally been consuming my thoughts all week. I don't think it's at gum graft level yet at all, and my dental hygienist at my last regular dental appointment said it looked okay to her, but I'm still so nervous. I can't wait until it's over. I'm also wondering wtf I did to deserve this happening again because I am meticulous about dental hygiene and go every 4 months for cleanings.
So anyway, that's my Tuesday. At least I can go to Trader Joes after for fun snacks because there's one nearby my appt.
I just scheduled a medical test that I’ve been putting off for 8 years. Our vacation is this weekend, and I will go to the city for this scan on the way home. I am sure I will ruin the whole trip by being stressed about it.
Aww, I'm sorry arehopsveggies. I would totally do the same thing and think about it the whole trip I hope you're still able to enjoy your trip somewhat! And good luck with everything.

For some inexplicable reason, I told my neighbor I would do hot yoga with her tomorrow at 6am. There is so much wrong with that sentence. Oy. I’m in Florida. Every day is hot yoga.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
nancybotwin , my hair stylist is perpetually behind. Every time I had an appt it would inevitably be 20 before I was seen. I asked her to start texting me 10 min before she was ready since I only live 5 away. I will say I went to the DMV yesterday and they are punctual! There was a woman sitting near (in her 60-70s) and she huffed “we were here before she came in!” At least some places still honor appt before walk ins! That’s the way it should be.
I kept thinking of the Seinfeld episode "You know how to take the reservation...you don't know how to keep the reservation" 😜 I went somewhere else today and they were quick and wonderful so I am feeling better about it all.
The cloth mask comments got me thinking... When I wear a (KN95) mask, I wear a cloth cover over it. The cover isn't a perfect fit, so I think some of the edge of the medical grade mask sticks out. I hope people don't think I'm just wearing a cloth mask. At least I wear it properly over my nose and mouth. I like the cover because it adds some personality and style. I don't expect it to have any added protection.
