I harvested the first Purple Beauty bell pepper from the garden this morning. It's medium sized and so pretty. I'm having trouble deciding what to do with it because I want to do it justice. There's another one growing, but it won't be ready to harvest for another couple of weeks.
What would ML do with a gorgeous purple bell pepper?

My grandmother always grew these. I grow one every year in her honor. It tickled me so much as a kid because purple is my favorite color.
I cut into slices and eat raw with a little bit of salt sprinkled on top.

I love the simplicity of this ๐ I really don't want to do anything that overshadows the pepper, so this is probably what I'll do. ๐ค
H is going back to visit his parents again and for a variety of reasons I won't get into, he's going alone, driving and taking Donny. I am a) bummed he'll be gone for 10 days, b) sad to miss time in Red Lodge and b) super bummed that I'll miss Donny experiencing a lot of things for the first time. It was so cool seeing Stella see a deer for the first time and swim in a creek, go on a hike, etc.
I'm trying to make a list of things to do for myself during that time to cheer me up and keep me from being a wallowing annoying baby. What's tough is that we only have the one car that H will be taking. I'll be carpooling with a coworker on the (now 2) days I have to be in the office and might have access to an extra car of my friends', but I don't want to drive that TOO much for fear of something happening.
So far I just have ordering food from the Indian place I like that H doesn't like. It's over Labor Day so maybe I'll take an extra day off to just sit around and do nothing and not feel guilty because he's in the next room working.
We're hitting national news in Canada for our wildfire. They've declared a state of emergency, evacuations are starting. The wind is picking up and blowing towards town, it's nearly 95F, and we're expecting more dry lightning this evening.
I've taken pictures of everything in our house, packed our bags, now we just wait.

Damn that sounds scary. Really hoping it doesnโt come your way and you donโt have to evacuate. Thinking of you and everyone around you.
I was wearing my Doc Marten sandals from 1998 and unsurprisingly the glue holding the insole is getting a little wonky. Is that something a cobbler could replace? The rest of shoe is fine.
Yes! My Arizona Sandles have been repaired several times.
I had such a nice night out with my niece. I love living close enough to each other that's it's easy to make dinner plans on the fly. Her BF is adorable, too, and we always have a good conversation. I approve!
I had a moment of panic this morning. I was heading out the door to go to the office and was loading my bags into the passenger side front seat like I always do (laptop bag, lunch bag, purse). I closed the door and my car locked. Ummmmm...? I couldn't get any of the doors to unlock, it was like the car didn't think the fob was nearby. My H is in Denver this week, so I was in full-on panic mode trying to figure out what to do since my phone was also locked in the car with my purse. I was going to run next door to ask my neighbor if I could use her phone, then thank god I had the sense to go back in the house and check the tray we have by the front door to see if my H happened to have left the secondary fob there. SUCCESS! I grabbed his fob, went back out to the garage and the doors unlocked. But what was weird is that all of the settings were based on my fob not his, even though his is what was recognized when it was unlocked. WEIRD!
I have the most bizarre things happen to me when it comes to any kind of technology. Even my H jokes about it, because these things happen to me mainly when he's out of town for work. Oy!
Sending you all of my go-away-fires thoughts, heygrey!
I did something today I've been avoiding for way too long, I visited the dentist. The hygienist was so sweet when she found out I was really anxious, and she did a really good, gentle job cleaning my teeth. Then the bad news: I have 8 cavities. All are pretty small--I'm having no pain or discomfort--but I'm in for a really unpleasant day in a couple of weeks when I get them filled.
We (I) have been fighting a war against gnats for the last 5 weeks (yes, I am keeping track). I had time tonight to not only reset the sticky/vinegar traps but also Google pictures of the tiny beasties I'm trying to eradicate.
1. There are fungus gnats around the houseplants (sticky traps are working well, and I'll water with hydrogen peroxide for a bit).
2. There are drain flies around the fish tank = MAJOR FML.
3. The websites I visited during my research were horribly SEO'd. Why sacrifice grammar for search hits! It just makes me think you're a poor source!
4. I was in a rush last weekend and bought the wrong strength of Delta8. The employee was clearly in a happy place and told me I was buying the same thing I'd bought before. Ummmm... no. Pretty sure I was buying the 30mg not the 60mg. And there was a difference in price that should have made me pause. Definitely my fault. Not going to complain because a tiny sliver has me completely relaxed. This shit could last me a lifetime ๐
We are still just holding tight. The evacuation zone has continued to expand, but it hasn't reached us yet. The wind is blowing away from our neighbourhood right now, but that means it's blowing towards friends' houses so it's not really a win.
H is at work until midnight so it's just me and the 9 year old. DS is shockingly calm since this is the first evacuation we've faced in his memory (we've done several either before he was born or when he was younger). He was a little upset earlier today thinking of all his favourite toys (which is everything he owns), but he's understanding that an evacuation isn't because our house is likely to burn down, it's to clear roads for emergency vehicles and potentially for the city to shut off the electricity, etc. We will stay with our best friends if we evacuate so he's now thinking that it might win him a multi-day sleepover.
I have stressed cleaned every inch of my house and actually staged closets and cupboards quite nicely to take photos of our possessions, so there is at least one positive.

I don't know how long it's been since you've seen a dentist (you don't have to tell me!), or if you have an established relationship with this dentist, but I'd get a second opinion.
There seems to be two schools of dentists - the ones who are hyper aggressive about filling every little thing, and those who are more wait and watch types. My dentist is very much a wait and watch type, and he's been watching one spot in my mouth for like, 6 years, and it's never gotten any worse. Which is why when he freaked out about a different spot on another tooth I didn't question him, and a few weeks later that tooth had a melt down resulting in a root canal.
Anyway, ask your friends if they like their dentist and how that dentist handles cavities (and anxious patients). Filling 8 teeth just seems like a lot to me, even if you haven't been in "forever."

It's been five years, and I don't floss much. My H reads x-rays professionally and agreed with the dentist's assessment. But thank you for looking out for me! I really do appreciate it.
nsl, that's handy to have someone in the house who can read x-rays!
My dentist is kind of great, and my niece's husband is a dentist, so I always get a little nervous when I hear people getting diagnosed with so many cavities all at once (even if they haven't been to the dentist in years).
