I'm excited and proud of myself. The job is different and challenging and the people seem cool and chill (not common for lawyers, ha). I'm also sad to be leaving my coworker friends who I adore and a little nervous about moving on from something I can do well and know I'm good at to an unknown.
Logic says go. Half of my heart says go. The other half of my heart says stay. All of me wants to just take a nap and not make any decisions. Or maybe move to Italy.
followyourarrow, I think that's an adorable idea, but I would not put highlighters or markers of any kind in there. I vividly recall my own 4 year old going to town on his carpet one day with a marker he'd hidden in something or other. Melissa and Doug make a really nice toy doctor's kit that has a lot of what you're describing in it plus a toy stethoscope, thermometer, knee reflex hammer, etc...
My random is that Kid 1 and I are flying out of town this afternoon, and it's going to be ~30 degrees warmer where we're going than it is at home right now. I'm having a really hard time packing appropriately because my brain is screaming that it's cold outside so I need long pants and sweaters, not t-shirts and sandals.

Just want to say thank you for all the feedback! I will hold off on reaching out as I'm not close enough to these neighbors and do not want to come off as nosy or insensitive.
followyourarrow, I think that sounds like a fun idea for your nephew! Probably not an easy thing to find (due to fraud), but if you can find a pretend Rx pad, that might be fun for when he is playing doctor. Maybe add a flashlight too? (He could pretend that it's an otoscope for looking in mouths and ears, or if he is playing detective.) And maybe a play phone if he doesn't already have one.
Have you ever been so annoyed with rude customer service on the phone that you just hang up?
I just did and don't feel bad.
On Sunday I went to the ER. I have been in contact with the colon and rectal specialist since last Friday via email. (Very nice nurse that has walked me thru great at home tips to try to speed recovery along) I'm still bleeding and need to be seem by their offices asap to figure out wtf is going on. Thr scheduler just called me and was all bitchy from the moment I answered the phone. She is tike "well we can get you an office visit on 10/25". Ummmm WHAT? I asked her if she had my notes in front of her about just having surgery and all...... She replies "yes I know my job". I tell her 10/25 is 3 weeks away. Her reply "I can count". I say "ok, I'm just gonna reach out to Megan again". Her reply "good luck with that."
I get crabby and cranky at my job too but come on lady.
I went to the dentist this morning and because of road construction (there is a TON of it by me right now) I had to take a winding, longer path to get there and then to get to the office afterward. Normally this would not bother me in the least except those other routes have extra traffic (understandably) and it's folks who didn't seem to know the area so kept hitting brakes, changing lanes, speeding up, slowing down BUT not paying attention the the cars around them. Saw so many near misses! Just pay attention! Speaking of this - the other I was driving home and a car ran a stop sign and I had to basically stand on my brakes and I legit came inches from crashing in to them. It was raining but thankfully that didn't make the roads slick and I was able to avoid them but sweet goodness did I LEAN on the horn at them!
I'm getting really tired of it being so cold in my office, our facilities folks really need to turn on the heat on campus! I have a heater going but I feel like I also need to bring in a blanket to try to be comfortable!
tacokick could it be something with the electrical supply? Ours stopped working a couple of weeks after we got it and it turned out to be an issue with that breaker. So we had to pay the stupid appliance place for coming out since it wasn't an issue with the dryer and then we had to pay an electrican to fix that. UGH
I don’t think so because we had put in a new breaker when we had it installed because we switched from gas. I guess I’ll find out! I don’t know which answer would be better. I hate dealing with repairs! I always feel like it goes the way it unfortunately did for you.

This reminds me that earlier this week I saw a lady turn into my school's driving range (which was full of new drivers in very clearly marked driver's ed cars) drive a couple of loops around the range while the driver's ed teacher screamed at her over the PA system to GTFO the range, then drive the wrong way up the lane to the main street so she could turn left right on top of the people who were waiting for the light to change in the designated left turn lane. I honked so hard when I realized that she was blocking traffic, and even yelled out my window that she was going to get hit by cars going the right way when the light changed, but she ignored me and everyone else who was trying to help her. So weird, and I'm still hoping she didn't hurt herself or anyone else that day because it looked like she was heading for the freeway entrance.
I'm having a rough week. But I just got a text that my new car is in! As of Monday, I thought it was going to be next week at the earliest. I can pick it up tomorrow. I feel like I have so much work to do to get everything out of my car tonight.
It's national gumbo day so we're celebrating at work.
I know it's too early for Christmas, but. Please tell me if this is a bad idea, my nephew is 4 and I'm thinking of getting him a little briefcase because he loves to play pretend, especially that he's a doctor. I'd put a badge in there, paper pads, pencils, highlighters, and a calculator. Would a 4 year old enjoy that? Or is it silly because no one really carries a briefcase these days. Or if it's good, please make suggestions on anything else to add.
At four my kid would have preferred doctor things like a medical bag, stethoscope, and otoscope over a briefcase, paper and calculator.

He already has a couple of dr kits, so I was looking for something else, but similar.
snapoutofit, how scary! Thank goodness no one was hurt, but I can imagine how scared and confused your mom might have been. I'm glad you're able to be with her today.
After six months of consistent work on my fitness/health/nutrition for the first time in my life, I have reached the point where my current clothes mostly do not fit.
I've been starting to bring out clothes I haven't been able to wear in a long (LOOONG) time--the ones you save, hoping you'll fit into them again someday. This is mostly not as satisfying as one would think. It's great to not have to buy all new things, and there's some sense of accomplishment that comes with it, but ... they're old clothes. Some of them I still like and will wear, but only about 40% of what I saved. Although I will say that it feels damn good to be able to wear the aspirational jeans, that has 100% lived up to my emotional expectations.
I've been hanging onto a pair of size 16 Seven jeans for about 10 years, hoping I will eventually fit into them. I bought 2 pairs of 18s at the same time, and have since worn them out (thick thighs may save lives, but they destroy all of my pants in the end.)
Are they probably out of style? Yes, I have no idea what rise they are, and the popular rise amount has shifted at least 4 times since I bought them. Will I keep them until I fit into them or die first? Also yes.

midwestmama, late to the party. The only thing I'd add is if your neighbor is older and lives alone, or doesn't seem to have younger family around it might be worth checking in. My dad had fantastic neighbors before he moved who helped in emergencies, but they didn't have my number until the third ambulance call, at which point them telling me what was going on was heaven sent. You're a good person for even thinking of them to help, not to be nosey.
spindle92, that is unacceptable. I would gently remind the next person that you've tried to see the doc without escalating due to the nature of the issue, but were told the earliest avb was 3 weeks from now. I hope that original person would be coached through how to review an urgent case, or at least escalate to a manager to tell you the same thing, or get you in sooner. Hope you start to feel better!

I just learned that a business partner of mine who I find incredibly difficult to work with and is detrimental to the company is being exited today. It's all I can do to not buy binoculars and camp myself by the window waiting to watch them walk out.
It also reaffirms 10000% that I cannot relate to the "mind your own business" crowd here because I come alive for this stuff lol.

I really, really need my work to decide if they're going to close for the last week of the year or not, and announce that like...now. If we don't close I'll have one vacation day left to use for the rest of the year after vacation next month. I know there are really big problems in the world, but I'm burnout, and my H has to pick his remaining PTO for the rest of the year now. We just had a big thing over picking his remaining days off because he might have over a week off and I'll have to work if I don't get holiday closure, but I won't know until he's locked in. I think I'm more just mad that he doesn't understand my need for time off when he has a lot of days off every week (shift work), and acts like I'm upset over nothing.
Also glad I'm not in management because you can only carry up to 80 hrs in to next year (if you even have that much.) Employees are (understandably) holding on to PTO in case we're not closed and they have to fight for those days off. One of the really high level managers just asked HR about the closure and couldn't even get an answer, so I think it's a control thing that someone at the very top wants to decide and announce on their time ::eye roll::

thebreakfastclub , you need popcorn, and a really good exit song, even better than "nah nah nah, hey hey hey goodbye!" ETA: Maybe "Yes, I can't wait to forget about you" instead of "Don't you forget about me", lol
Also this completely unhinged, terrible excuse for a writer blogger in my general area just got arrested, and I can't lie I watched every single news story last night. I'm still not 1000% sure what they're even charged with, but I joked everyone should gamble how long it will take them to get re-arrested for breaking the terms of being out on bail? however they're currently free.

followyourarrow when DS2 and DD were younger I got them each a "briefcase". I got them something similar to the photo which is a handled craft box as they can now use them as pencil/art supply boxes. I included retractable name badges, pens, paper pads, a stamper and stamp pad, and sticker labels. I also got an old printing calculator from a relative so they could print long receipts like CVS.

There are SO MANY unsafe drivers! One intersection where they are doing construction - normally it's 5 lanes with 2 southbound, 2 northbound and a left turn lane is now 1 lane each direction and no separate left turn lane (they added a left turn arrow though) and folks keep crossing over the double yellow lines to try to turn left in the "old" turn lane - I mean come on! Do you not see that now you are in the lane where people are trying to drive the opposite direction?!?! It's like folks have zero awareness of what the lines on the road mean anymore! So many posts on the community FB page about it and folks want to chime in and say it's confusing (spoiler: it's not) and maybe those people are unfamiliar with the area - double yellow lines mean the same thing literally everywhere and if they were unfamiliar then how would they know that is normally a turn lane?!?! People just plain don't pay attention or don't know the rules of driving. **Shakes cane**
Well, I am home from my crazy adventure this morning. Managed to make it to the embassy and the zoo, and get back home by 1:15. There were no pandas out when we were there. 😫 Not outside, not inside. The control room with the cameras showed no pandas. They had apparently retreated to the batcave.
I'm loving post-season baseball right now, especially after my Phils blew out the Braves last night. Thank goodness tomorrow is a wfh day, because tonights game got pushed back to 8:07PM so now tonight is going to be a much later night than I had planned.
I'm actually going out with someone tonight to watch the game. He's very handsome, seems very nice, but I'm struggling with him being on the shorter side. I'm only 5'1" so it really shouldn't be an issue, but I generally prefer taller men. I fell like a jerk for being shallow about someone's height. Hopefully he'll be awesome in person and I'll get over myself.
Dating is weird. I mean really. I'm finding little things about my bf that are just different than what I was use to with STBXH. Not Bad But different. BF is way shorter than my xh. But I'm ok with dating someone who isn't a whole foot taller that me. I'm only 5'3". He also hugs me differently (again, not bad just different.) It's hella weird after being with the same person for 16 years. It's also enjoyable too. Have fun on your date tonight!

I am out at 2pm today and I'm off tomorrow. We are flying to Santa Ana tonight for a memorial service for my favorite aunt on Saturday. We decided to sneak in a trip to CA Adventure which is why we're leaving a day early. But I had to keep it hush so I could use bereavement leave instead of PTO.
The last time I did Soarin', masks were still mandated on indoor rides. I'm sure you can imagine how a mask would dampen the enjoyment of that particular ride! I'm really looking forward to smelling all the smells. Have not been able to get any reservations for World of Color, and I've been checking daily for about 3 weeks.

spindle92, I'm appalled the scheduler would act so flippantly and rudely, given you recently had surgery and were in the ER. It seems they would have a SOP for your types of situations, where the person needs to get in urgently. It is more costly for everyone if you have to go to ER again to try and get it resolved.

litskispeciality, it is a family - I'm guessing the parents are late 30s/early 40s and 3 kids (youngest is around 6 and oldest is 13/14). If it was someone who lived alone (whether elderly or not), I would definitely try to follow up. A friend's mom recently passed away (she was almost 87), unexpectedly, and she was not found until 5-6 days after she passed, so that was reinforcing to me to be more aware of a single, elderly neighbor we have. (For the friend's mom, they only know the approximate date of death so easily because she took her blood pressure each morning, and they could see the last date recorded.)

How can I offload some cashmere sweaters? Has anyone had luck with FB marketplace? They’re all from Macy’s and in good quality but I wouldn’t know how to price them. Do I sell them individually or as a group as there’s about 12 of them, all stating 100% Cashmere.
I’m not as thin as I used to be so I know I’ll never wear XS-S again and I could use the drawer space.

You can't get WOC reservations in advance, you have to join the virtual queue beginning at noon on the day you are there. You have to be in the park to be able to enter the queue. We had our phones ready right at noon and were able to enter the queue pretty easily. The DL website has more info.
fangoriagurkel, I wouldn't sell all 12 as a lot because I can't imagine anyone is looking for that many all at once. I'd probably do lots of 2 or 3 that seems more reasonable. Price wise I'd search what other folks are selling similar items for in my area.
