Our daughter has her usual daycare cough but we all took Covid tests yesterday and today and we’re all negative, a relief!
My partner upgraded our train tickets to first class using points, so yay for alcohol on the train. The food is actually really good.
My grandmother is 106 so we’re gonna take pics tomorrow with her before people arrive for dinner. It’s her 2nd time meeting our daughter and I’m thankful they have this time together. It’s so crazy to think about what the world was like when my grandmother was born vs what it is now. Obviously things are shitty in the world, but to think about my ancestors and how my grandmother grew up in segregation and before the discovery of penicillin vs how things are now, wow.

I just want to say that I really love my little family of 3. We've been hanging out for days, just relaxing at home. We don't travel for the holidays, and that suits me just fine. We don't have a super big family, but the family we have is spread out all over the country, so we see them at other times (summer, weekends here and there).
H made a yummy healthy lunch today (cajun chicken--homemade seasoning!--peppers, onions, black beans, green beans and I added a little bit of hummus on the side). It was so delicious and I'm so full. I'm going out to get tequila later and then we're going to watch football and Christmas movies today.
The tree is up and decorated, the meals for tomorrow are planned (self-designed charc board + a pot pie from Costco!), the gifts are all wrapped, my house is clean, the laundry is done, and life is good.
I'm 'watching' an online training about child & adolescent development for work. If I had a dollar for every hour of training on child and/or adolescent development I've had since 2002/2003 I'd be rolling in some serious money. It's 2 hours long so I'm letting it play while I do important things.

I just finished wrapping everything and tonight's dinner is prepped. DH cooks Christmas breakfast and dinner, so that's it for me. I just have a little bit of cleaning to do. Then I'm taking a shower and lounging on the couch watching Christmas movies. I have no plans to leave the house until December 27.
We're 48 hours into winter break and I'm already over being a parent. I don't get a parenting break until the 26th at best.
Had to cancel plans to join my best friend for baking and her extended family xmas because little kid has a stuffy nose and a cough, and we don't want to risk all the grandparents who will be there.
My uncle died this week (no condolences please) after his third cancer diagnoses. He beat cancer twice over ten years, he had no fight left in him this time and I don't blame him. But I am SO GODDAMN ANGRY at him for entering hospice and only telling my mother (his sister). He didn't even tell his kids (my cousins). No idea if he even told his ex-wife (my cousins' mom). I am so angry for them, right before xmas and they get blindsided. And the fact that my mother had to keep this secret while he laid dying.
Thought we lost the snake yesterday. Legit thought he escaped. Finally found him where he shouldn't have been able to get into after tearing his terrarium apart.
We are on our way to my sisters house to celebrate Xmas Eve. Her kids and my dad have low grade colds, but we are pretty sure our family just had the same one so we are going. Tomorrow ILs will be coming for a low key dinner.
Done so far today: - 3 loads of laundry - Chinese food ordered - came up with a few indoor activity ideas for our Niagara Falls trip in a few days, as the daytime weather looks a bit iffy
Still to do: - make cranberry sauce - assemble make-ahead cinnamon rolls for tomorrow’s breakfast (trying this for the first time ever)
My husband is currently taking all three dogs on a walk alone and that is a present in itself!
So far all I’ve done to day is eat pancakes someone else made and watched Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas which I had never seen before. There is a whole scene about spinning wool. And a snake in a band! Who knew?

Is it streaming? If so, which service? For Emmett Otter’s….
H and I went to the bar at our hotel last night and I noticed a party celebrating someone’s 30th birthday. I asked the server to buy him a shot because I had the same birthday. When she went to tell him, he tried to order a $50 shot!
lol. Luckily the server had my back and she told him “No, you’re not getting that.” I ended up buying him a regular $10 shot. The nerve, man!

I would've just told him never mind. The audacity!!!

I had to laugh: wtf, man? But maybe it wasn’t as ridiculous as I first described?
The server came back and told me he’d tried to order a fireball first, which is reasonable, but they were out. Then he tried the $50 shot, she shut that down, so I asked her what she recommended and I went with that.

We're driving 2 hours to my parents' for cocktails, heavy apps and a gift exchange. We'll stay overnight at a hotel and drive back home in the morning for Christmas with SO's kids. This is my favorite day of the year!

I’m trying really hard not to snap. I told my kids last night, no iPad games today and tomorrow. They can play games with each other, outside and fish or play basketball, watch Christmas movies or help with Christmas prep. I told ds2 to give it to me because he’s the one who really has no control. He said no no I’ll be “good.” He’s been sneaking in to use it so I took it away and he’s crying. Then our elf brought cookie mixes that are easy for us to do with ds3. I told my ds1 we would start when o finished cleaning up from Christmas food prep. Instead he barges in and starts making chocolate chip cookies which we have a million of already and I don’t have all the ingredients out for. Starts getting everything out and asking where’s this, where’s that which I dont have because o wasn’t planning on making those. He uses the last of the brown sugar my h needed for a recipe. This is why I’m bah humbug this year.
mcppalmbeach, if you have molasses you can sub molasses (5-10% depending on what you needed) and regular sugar.
Amazon just reached a new low by delivering craft kits from my brother for the kids and slapping the shipping label on the kit box. No outer box, no shipping box, just on the item itself. Which in theory I don't mind because less waste expect that the delivery driver had to put them on wet concrete since it rained last night and also the kids totally saw what they were. New low, Amazon, new low.

Amazon now requires the buyer to check a box if you want items packaged in cardboard boxes instead of original packing. It's caught a lot of people by surprise.
rosiebear - OMG! You should have sent him a shot of penzoil!
I am tired! Last night we cooked all of the sides we’re bringing for Christmas Day, then we were watching a christmas movie and someone knocked, it was a couple in christmas sweaters, I thought we had carolers, which has never happened to me in my life! Lol, I opened the door and they were with 4 of our close friends, who were hiding under the carport:) Kind of like a Parranda! They came in and then I had too much wine.
I just stood in front of the stove for 3hrs working on the gumbo, but it’s done now! The roux took over an hour! My mom is coming at 3:30 and the rest of my family at 6:30. Ready for more wine, ha.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

Lego did this to me. Thankfully it was for myself but that was close.
We did gifts yesterday afternoon with my brother and SIL then went to a fancy dinner with them. Our girl dog spent the night at the e-vet and we were able to pick her up on the way home. She was supposed to get a round of meds at 2AM, but they said we could push it back to make it a more reasonable tme. Cue husband waking me up at 5 to help figure out her meds because they didn't send any of the OTC ones to get us through that 2AM dose.
So I made an online pickup order at Walgreens, helped husband started the brine for the turkey breast, headed to suburbia to pick up the take & bake cinnamon rolls we get from a local coffee shop each year, went by Whole Foods to get cheese and crackers for dinner tonight, picked up the Walgreens order and came home. Made tapenade that will mostly go with the salad tomorrow, but I thought it would be good on crackers tonight. Soaked the radiccho for salad tomorrow and diced up the onion for the salad dressing & brussels sprouts side tomorrow. Made boozy eggnog tiramisu while drinking wine.
And now I think I'm going to sit in the big round chair with my Christmas blanket and read/snuggle the dogs/fall asleep. I think we'll open presents when it's dark, have cheese/crackers/wine for dinner, and drink some spiked eggnog while watching Elf.

Today has been a nice day, we didn't have plans so I actually rested. I need to be better about rest in 2024. I met a friend for a walk and yoga, made an omelette with chives, mushrooms and spinach. I meant to use feta but used cream cheese--don't recommend. The teens picked up some last minute gifts for each other. We are having lasagna for dinner and watching a Christmas movie. Then we drive to MILs tomorrow, it's four hours. I've been on the couch a few hours reading with the dog and DD bathed the dog.
My parents were here for a few days, then left mid-day today to head for my sister’s house. So we did presents from them this morning. We’ll do the rest of them tomorrow.
We did our big mexican dinner a few nights ago when they were here (we typically do it on Christmas Eve). I was going to say “traditional” but not in the sense that it’s necessarily authentic, just that it’s our family tradition. Hats off to all of you making tamales today, we decided to mail order instead (Texas lonestar tamales, and they were amazing).
C knows the truth about Santa, but I think he’s in denial maybe because he keeps talking about Santa and reindeer and acts like they’re real, so we’re going along with it, but I’m honestly not trying to hard to keep up the charade.

We’re playing cards and watching the Taylor Swift Eras movie. We are definitely old because we are really enjoying this at home - pausing for bathroom and snack breaks, pausing so H can ask me all the questions. We opened a bottle of wine his brother sent us, and are cooking prime rib for dinner. It’s been a fun day here!
We are hanging out at my parents' house. Both my sisters are here, which is the first time since 2019. My poor sister with the health issues made it, but she has sent a lot of time sleeping and seems pretty unhappy in general. She is being pleasant to be around, I just feel bad she isn't feeling better. I know it's such a struggle and that sucks. Her new dog is adorable though. And very attached to her!
