I have no idea. I didn’t realize people regularly took their temp! (Other than ovulation tracking).
I live with 2 hypochondriac/hoping to get out of school kids and take my own temp first every time I check theirs as a baseline to demonstrate to them that the thermometer isn't malfunctioning (an actual argument BOTH of my kids have tried #childrenoflawyers).
I believe the discrepancies lie with the change in thermometers over the decades. We had two ancient ones we just discarded that consistently showed our temps 1 - 1.5 degree higher than all our newer thermometers.
I tried checking the Red Cross app so I had some actual data on this, but despite taking temp, they only seem to record hemoglobin, BP, and pulse. I feel like I’m normally low 97s, which explains why I am cold for eight or nine months out of the year. My husband and I discussed this yet again today when I had my heater on and he thought I was nuts.
I bet people with lower natural temperatures know what their base temp is more than people closer to “average” because we’ve had years of doctors and parents telling us 99° isn’t a fever when we feel like our body is on fire.
I know that’s why I’d randomly test mine on days I felt great! Vindication!

Around 97.6 as well. The only fever I’ve had in recent years was when i was pregnant with my daughter (who turns 11 today!) And had a kidney infection, and it was 102.4 so i definitely felt it then lol. Idk what temp i’d notice a fever now.
Lower, like 97 something. When I had COVID in 2022, I could physically feel that I had a fever but most of the time it was only 99 something. It got to 102 at one point and I thought I was dying.
My kids are normally 98s to 99s in the evening even when healthy. When they're getting over a fever I'm looking for that 98, I have to remind myself that a 99 in the evening is perfectly normal for them.

97 plus or minus a half.
In a high school blood drive they used those forehead strips which only go down to 96, and mine wasn't registering at all. The phlebotomist was so surprised she called over the others to witness it. I was told to put on a sweatshirt and sit outside and come back later. Lol. It worked!
House rule was 100 to stay home. I was 99.8 and felt awful, and said I run low, but stepmom got all nasty about how she knew my normal, that I was wrong, why do I have to argue everything, and I was going to school. This is obviously a touchy subject

I am usually close to 97.1. I have always run cold. My Mom said she doesn't think I ever registered a real fever in my entire childhood.
It's the same for both my kids. I think they've each just barely hit 99 a couple of times. I've never tested them at or above 100. Which really has been lucky. They have been sick, but they just don't seem to spike severe fevers (neither do I).
