Congrats! He's a cutie. I have the same answers that others have already posted, but I just wanted to add that if he's eating his food super quickly, you might want to consider a slow-feeder bowl for him.
Congrats! He's adorable and reminds me of our rescue a bit, especially the eyes and nose! We just did wisdom panel and ours is a true mutt with 15 breeds, but most surprisingly, he's over 40% chihuahua, which to me is crazy. He's about 20 lbs and also part Pomeranian and poodle. The rescue guessed schnauzer lol, these DNA tests are changing everything!
Ted used to graze but was putting on too much weight. We switched to fresh food and he gets 1/4 lb twice daily, morning and evening.
I like the name Gus too.. he looks like a Gus to me.

For poop bags, we got a Ubbi diaper pail and keep that in the garage, next to the trash can. So it’s all contained in tits own trash bags (obv also within the individual poop bags) and not stinking up the garbage can.
I bought one for my cousins’s baby shower, and figured poop is poop, may as well get one for our own usage - and it’s way nicer than the gross one I used for my own kids 🤪
We feed around 7 am and then around 6 at night. In the morning they go out when they first get up, my husband feeds them and then they go back to bed for an hour or so until I get up and put them out. On the weekends it’s more flexible.
For the poop, my dad has a second can for it but we line our big outdoor trash can with a giant thin bin liner so we can put things directly in there. We started this after random people were tossing trash in our can and it works really well.
We had a middle aged lady cat when we got our dog. We put a baby gate to the stairs and she stayed exclusively on the second floor for many months. She had her litter, food, water, and sleeping space with her. The dog stayed downstairs. Then one day, she just walked into the kitchen like it was no big deal. The dog was scared of her, too. He would whimper if she sat in the middle of hall until he learned how to jump over her.
I’d keep a leash on the dog whenever they are in a room together until they get friendly. It’s a good training method to leash a dog indoors anyway. You can clip it to your belt.
I used an empty flower pot by the door for poop bags. Then they got dumped into the trash bag before that got closed and put in the trash can.
Theodore... Ted/Teddy for short. Leroy Jenkins might also fit 🤔 😄
I'm no help with the other questions. Although I would love to find a solution to litterbox waste that doesn't involve plastic bags, and the idea of a pet septic tank a pp posted is appealing.

so cute! we have a lab and another food driven dog
2. I've never had dogs that ate on a schedule before, but this dog wolfs down his food so I am guessing that's what we'll do. How often do you feed your dog? And about how long after do you need to take them outside to pee/poop? As a puppy 3x per day. now 2x per day - 5am and 5pm with treats in between and after. We live in a house with a fenced in yard - so let them out immediately after eating for about 30 min - or until they want to come in - sometimes they stay out longer, other times when it's cold it's out and right back in. they're also really good now about telling us when they need to go out.
3. What do you do with your poop bags? Obviously they go in the trash, but our trash has to be tied up for them to take it so I can't just throw it in the can outside. Do you have a separate bucket or something? If we're on a walk and have the opportunity they get put in a public trash bin - if we carry it home - it gets put at the corner of the garage outside and collected the morning of trash day to put in our bin. At the other house we have a small trash container with a lid that we put the poop bags in until trash day. For the backyard - it "should" get cleaned up once a week the day before trash day - but depends on DS/DH and timing.

I definitely want to do one of these! I’ve always regretted that I never did one with my last mutt, so I definitely will with this one!
