He is risen, and by he I mean my 13yo son, who normally sleeps to 10 or 11 on a weekend but was up at 6 am for our family egg hunt and to ravage his basket. 🥱
We are at my parents’ for the weekend. DS and I just woke up, DH is still sleeping, and my parents have gone to church. I’ll get breakfast started in a bit so it’s ready for when they get home.
This is the first year of no Easter hunt for DS (11). I asked him if he still wanted to hunt for mini eggs etc. (that he never eats anyway), or whether he’d be ok with cash instead. He said he could ‘get on board with cash’, so a Lindt bunny and an envelope of bunny cash that is exchangeable for real money was waiting for him this morning. Easy peasy.
Happy Easter! We’re in FL visiting my parents and it’s been great so far. So cute to watch the kids hunt for eggs in a new place. We saw the SpaceX launch from my parents backyard last night and it was so cool!
DD sat out the egg hunt we went to yesterday, she is 10 and I'm a little sad that she feels too old for it. DS (8) still participated but after said he didn't think it was worth it 😂
Baskets of sugar have been found and they are having chocolate for breakfast, what could go wrong?
I put riddles and vouchers for things DS wants, like a Taco Bell night in his eggs, so he's still into it. Then once all the eggs are open, we refill them with dog treats and he hides them for the pups. Our 2YO dog is really good at finding them and we make her share with her brother.
Happy Easter! We did C’s Easter basket last week when my parents were visiting. I went very minimalist, and I still think I overdid it on candy. C thinks he loves candy, but he just never eats that much. Every major “candy” holiday he nibbles off his stash for a few days, then forgets about it. I like the idea of a Lindt bunny and cash though….
We’re traveling in the UK this week. The weather the last few days was glorious, and now it’s cold and cloudy again (which is more typical for this time of year). I wish I’d brought warmer clothes…
As a heathen with no kids, I keep forgetting it’s Easter weekend lol
We had no plans which is great because our April is going to be nuts so I’m just soaking it in. Today is my cleaning day, but other than that I’m hoping to finish my last book of March.

The egg hunt got started here at 6:45am. I’d been up since 3am anyway because I can’t sleep these days. Me and DD are leaving around noon to head to my mom’s and then we are going with her to a cousin’s for dinner and to see my mom’s new condo after. She closed on it Thursday but won’t be moving until the summer. The hour drive each way is going to be tough because the lack of sleep hits me in the afternoon. Guess I better pick up a Celsius for later.
No kids and no religion here, so we do Easter pretty low key - I made hard boiled eggs last night so we had those and mimosas for breakfast. I am going to do ribs in the smoker later because we have some that have been in the freezer for months and a holiday seemed like a good reason to make the effort of smoking them. But we are not leaving the house today so no other celebrations.
I bought stuff to crochet a blanket yesterday, so I'm starting on that this morning. It will be my first blanket so hopefully the almost $80 worth of yarn I bought will be worth it, lol.
I need to do my last assignment for my class and maybe get started on grading assignments for the class I am teaching, too.
We haven't done the egg hunt or baskets yet, but will later on. DS (9) knows that we hide the eggs, and we're waiting for the yard to dry up from some rain overnight. DD (2) is too young to know what's going on. DS never eats the candy he gets from anything, so I got him books, Pringles, a little lego set, Pez (one candy he'll actually finish), a Kinder Joy egg because he was eyeing them the other day and never had one. DD also got books, plus crayons, play doh, a little plush toy, and a bunch of Yumi bars.
I'm kind of meh today and need to force myself to snap out of it. Little disappointments and annoyances always get to me more on holidays because I think I want the day be perfect and special and fun, and then I end up ruining it for myself. Ugh I've turned into my mother lol. I need to just chill and not put so much pressure on the day.
We just got back from vacation last night, and I broke my elbow the week before we left, so Easter baskets are pretty meager this year. My daughter called her basket depressing, and she honestly wasn't wrong.
We all slept in and are just having a low key day. We will eventually going over to my parents for dinner.
I didn't get any decor out-- not even my cute paper paper mache rabbits for the foyer. TBH, I'd forgotten about them until last night when we went out to dinner with friends to a lovely Italian place that was decorated to the teeth in fun Easter things. I have no idea how long it took them to put it all out or how the store it all-- it's a big space.
Mom is ubering to my niece's house for an egg hunt with niece's half-brothers. I was invited, but declined as DH isn't the most social of creatures and nobody interacts with him at the parties except nephew-in-law's Trump-ass dad (the guy who actually prescribed Invermectin when niece had COVID). DS is working today-- I slipped Easter candy in his lunch. DH and I have a rare quiet day home alone like the old days.
I hadn't planned on making dinner, but since it's one of DS's "cheat days" (ugh I hate his diet language) I promised him homemade mac'n'cheese. I got off really easy. I need to run to the store before it closes. Maybe the local grocery will have lamb cake left-- last year we bought one day after 1/2 price and it was stellar.
I like any excuse for candy and to make fun food so I’ve already had my traditional breakfast chocolate. When I was a kid my mom realized no one actually wanted a real breakfast on the holidays so we always opened up our boxes of chocolate from the local candy shop for “breakfast” instead and then had our main meal at lunch so we didn’t pass out from hunger.
Today we are making crab cakes so I’m excited about that. And having the coconut cake we picked up yesterday. I think it’s cuter than last years’ lamb cake but still as odd looking as they should be!
We don't celebrate Easter and don't have kids so it's a typical day for us. Yesterday was a beautiful day and now today is cloudy and cold again, so I'm probably getting some of the remaining things for our vacation booked.
Random question: If you have been to Maroon Bells since they started requiring reservations, do you recommend doing the shuttle tickets or the car pass and getting there early? We wouldn't have problems getting there before 8 AM but I would probably like to get there later, which means doing shuttle passes. It just seems like a lot of extra hassle to do the shuttle.

I'm a heathen with no kids living in a Muslim country and visiting another that recognizes I think everything.
I'm very confused.
I did get a free g&t at dinner tonight, so I'll accept that.

DS and I have been up and down since 415 this morning! Neither of us could go back to sleep. After rummaging through the Easter baskets DS decided to open something with a pair of scissors. He sliced his finger open. It’s boarder line needing glue. Of course none of the urgent cares near us are open. We are waiting to see if it stops bleeding. Happy Easter!

Wes, 11, just told me “thanks for the Easter baskets mom!” So I guess he doesn’t believe in the Easter bunny anymore. Lol. I’m afraid to ask about Santa. I know it’s probably past the time he stopped believing but it’s a little sad to lose another part of baby/childhood as he steps into the teens.
X is still sleeping. Damn teenagers. Where was this sleep ability when you were two dude?!?!?
We aren’t religious so no church or anything. We’re going to my mom’s for dinner. Funnnnnnnnn. 😬

I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
Been to church, kids got their Easter baskets, now I'm prepping for friends and my parents to come for late lunch in a couple of hours.
And then I have to be in the office tomorrow so it'll be a regular evening here. At least we don't have to deal with lunches etc. since the kids don't go back until Wednesday.
It is a miraculous day indeed! I slept until 8:53 and thought for sure it was like 7am when I looked at my phone. Apparently the lesson on how to close a door softly took.
We’re not doing an Easter egg hunt until we go to MIL’s later, but I need to give the boys (and puppy) their baskets now that I’m up. I hope they like them. I feel like DS1 is so hard to get stuff like this for at almost 9.
Hoping for some puppy playtime this morning and maybe a walk. I want to start a new book and cuddle with the pup, but should probably tire her out first. I also need to pack lunches food DS1 for school next week. I feel very ‘whomp whomp’ about going back to school and work.

I have a kid and I forgot! And yes we also have a crazy April so it has been nice to have a nice relaxing weekend and play things by ear.

Godless heathens of teens here, so no special plans. The teens hunted for their baskets and that was the extent of it.
And then we remembered AGAIN (because it happens every holiday) that stores are closed today. So I canceled my Target pickup order and H ran to the one grocery store that was open, before it closed early.
I'm always surprised so many chain stores close given that most people aren't Christian.

We have a leak from our bathroom (tub and sink only, thank god!) coming into our laundry/utility room, so h and I just moved the VERY FULL fridge out of there and into our kitchen. There are few smells grosser to me than fridge/freezer smell ugh

DD doesn't believe in the bunny anymore, but does still enjoy looking for eggs. We dyed eggs yesterday and I hid them this morning while drinking my coffee. We aren't religious, so just a basket and eggs for us. I put some cash and candy in the basket. Easter is probably my least favorite holiday, no day off work and one less weekend day to run errands.

No Easter for us, seeing as how we are Jewish and all 😜
DS has a birthday party. My dad is in town so I’m hoping we will find something to do outside the house today. It’s been rainy all weekend, but I’m ready to get out of the house. Maybe we will go bowling or to an arcade. Hopefully something will be open.

Trader Joe’s is open today if you need anything else (and have one nearby).

I'm pretty sure that my kid doesn't believe anymore (he's 12, OMG), but that doesn't stop him from participating. E Bunny hides the eggs in the yard (throwback to H's childhood), and then there's a basket with a plush rabbit (he still loves plushies) + choco rabbit (Reese's this year) ready for egg-collecting on the kitchen table. Hidden eggs have candy and a some with a clue to a small gift. We did a 3d printer pen, Guiness Book of World Records 2024, insane Uno, a brain teaser puzzle and a Nerf gun that he loves. He loves to search the house for the gifts.
I'll keep going as long as he shows interest. We went to Silver Diner for brunch and I'm making lamb for dinner.
This cabin rental has turned into a nightmare. It’s so bad I’m debating disputing with my cc company. We found out today that the dishwasher is broken. After it was full. The check out instructions says to run in when you leave, so like, what have the people here before us been doing?
Then we went to do a hike and the trail is closed from fires. I had no idea. My poor kid was not pleased.
She did enjoy her basket, but not the weekend any of us had planned.
