-washing kid craft supplies - paint brushes, palettes, glittery shit - my 16 year old is a hobby artist, and this is her spot to clean stuff
-washing the dog - he's basically a 10 lb animated stuffed animal, and when he goes for walks/goes outside, if there's any moisture on the ground at all, it gets kicked up into his fur/underside. We hose him off multiple times a day in the utility sink year round (because snow turns to snow balls on him, and he turns into a mini yeti)
-washing gross stuff - carpet shampooer, car floor mats in the winter when it's too cold to do it outside, etc.
- holding dirty rags until ready to wash. Toss them into the sink to keep them off the ground/out of a basket that I don't want my clothes to mix with.
- dumping/rinsing mops and mop water. Where else does one do this?!
I have one and it is essential because this is where the dirty water from the washing machine goes. Little anecdote, when I had an old top loader, this sink was filled in half with water. Now that I have a front loader, the sink might be full less than 1/2 inch with water. If at all.
I use it all the time. Some of my kids clothes need to soak for 24+ hours and I use one of the pink plastic bins from the hospital and place it in the sink. We can still run the washing machine while the clothes are soaking. I also use it to pre-wash my paint supplies. H uses to wash the fountain parts at the end of the season. This is also where I dump the carpet cleaner tank instead of the toilet. I never had one before this house but now I couldn't do without it. I think a sink, utility or regular, is essential to a laundry room.

I guess I do. I empty the mop bucket there, scrub shoes/boots, and usually have a bucket of something or other soaking with bleach or oxy.
Honestly, though, ours has been put of order for about a year (has a leak that needs to be fixed) and I haven't really missed it - I've just tossed the water outside, scrubbed in the back yard, and set the soaking bucket on a mat on the floor. So 🤷♀️

When I first moved in to my house, the laundry was on the main floor and did not have a utility sink. At the time, I never missed it. Back in 2020 the laundry was moved to the basement and a utility sink was added. I've got to say, now that I have one, I wouldn't want to do without again. I don't use it frequently, but when I do need to use it, it is so nice to have.
My husband works in his garage a lot and he uses that sink to clean up when he comes in the house. It's also where I fill and dump my mop bucket when I do the floors.
