I'm annoyed with/mad at H for a stupid, childish reason. I think I'm just in a blah/bad mood so I'm not able to get over it. It's sunny and warm today, so I'm about to take the dog for a long walk on lunch. Hopefully that snaps me out of it. Along with my leftover Thai food from dinner last night. LOL.
I lead the parent committee for my daughter's scout troop. There are usually only 5 people at the monthly meetings, and 2 of them spend the whole meeting just being super know-it-all-y and trying to impress each other with who knows more about scouts. Like going out of their way to use acronyms and jargon and then acting like *I'm* the crazy one for not knowing what they are talking about. Over and over, every meeting. I used to be nice about it and say things like "Sorry, we are new to scouting, can you explain what you mean" but A. that usually just prompted them to go off about how great something is without ever actually explaining WHAT it is, and B. it hasn't stopped them at all. They are insufferable and I now just let them talk and then change the subject without responding, or if I really need to respond, just say flatly "I don't know what that is."
My DD is finishing up her second year, and I still have no idea how scouts is supposed to work, and she is tired of the whole thing. She is quitting at the end of the school year, and I've never been so relieved to be done something in my life.
(This random brought to you by what was hopefully my last ever parent meeting last night)
Came home yesterday afternoon to water pouring from the garage ceiling. The culprit? A squirrel family chewed through a pipe. Paid an after hours plumber to come out and fix so we could have water. Now we need to trap the squirrels.
Can’t do that today though because it’s Armageddon outside. Flooding rain, hail, insane lightning. 5 inches of rain in like 2 hours. No signs of a slowdown anytime soon. I’m on edge. And worried that DD may get stuck at school. Ugh,
I don't want to start a May reading thread because I don't contribute a lot....but I have 5 Audible credits I want to use so I can pause my account. So....hint hint...
DD is still recovering from her knee surgery. She's doing well, such a trooper.
Gus Gus, our other guinea pig, is doing better with his meds. He has pneumonia. It's likely the cause of his brother's passing.
jinkies I'm sorry you've had to deal with so much drama and stress about scouts. My dd is just getting started and it is overwhelming but she loves it so far. It seems to be a huge time and money suck though and I am not even volunteering for anything now.
The are around my eye is swollen and it is bugging me. I have no motivation to do anything.
I had a doctor appointment this morning. She asked if I was still getting regular periods. I said yes and pulled out my phone to give her the date. It was in March. So, maybe not?
Also, I have had a super stressful week, but have still managed to stick to my healthy eating and exercising I've been doing so I can lose some weight. Today for lunch I decided I was going to treat myself and went to DQ for a blizzard. Their fucking mixer was broken. Because of course it was.

Nooo mel! That would be so disappointing. I hope you can get a different treat to make up for it?
I miss DQ. I guess there are a few in this general area but nothing convenient to me (last I looked it was a 20+ minute drive). It's probably better for my health that there isn't, but nothing hits like a Blizzard sometimes.
Can someone explain how Rent the Runway works to me? I fell in love with a dress on there that I want to wear to a wedding this summer. I don’t think the 4 or 8 day rental will work because the wedding is out of the country and I’ll be gone for almost 2 weeks. I’ll want the dress at least a week before I travel in case I hate it and need another option. So - could I get a monthly subscription and then cancel after a month?
Alternatively- does anyone have dress suggestions for a summer wedding? Must be long and not green, per bride. I am tall- ish (5’8) and pretty ruler-shaped. Typically size 4-6. I don’t love showing off cleavage., but like patterns/color. I would like to spend less than $200 since I will never wear this dress again and will likely sell on Poshmark.
Can you show us the dress you fell in love with? Maybe we can find something similar.
Thanks to livinitup suggestion we have successfully returned the $$$ defective grill! It took two flat carts to hold all the parts but they took it! I’m thrilled because dealing with that was pushing me over the edge between my dad in the ICU and my FIL in hospice.
Oh my doctor called and told me she can handle my birth control refills after all. Good but WTF. That dragged on for literal weeks.
So two good updates! Still looking for a dog sitter though which has become very stressful.

Is this Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts? I did Campfire as a kid (similar thing) and loved it! I have been disappointed DD1 never wanted to do Girl Scouts and was planning to sign up DD1 when she starts K, but maybe I shouldn't?

It is still worth giving Girl Scouts a try, but it is highly dependent on the council and troop leaders. I don't know that I found it overwhelming, but we do 1 meeting and 1 field trip a month and the other troop just does one field trip a month, so it does really vary. We did have to do the badges at the younger ages, but now everything is voluntary.
My kid got an invite to a birthday party on Tuesday. Party is happening on Saturday. Invite was just hand written on a regular card, bounce house and pizza at their house so seems low key. I texted the parent asking if siblings could come and they said yes. THEN my kid comes home saying she has to give the card back to another kid because they just let her borrow it. So now I'm not sure if my kid was ever invited, and am feeling extra ballsy that I asked about a sibling to a party my kid may not have even been invited to 😂. Idk what's worse to text now and see if my kid (and sibling now) are actually invited or just show up.

If it's the DQ off 26, it's probably the one in walking distance of my house. I've lived here for 15 years (how did that sneak up on me) and I've only been once.

So awkward! Did they get it from school? Our school has a policy that if the invitations were handed out at school all the kids have to get them. So maybe your kid was invited?

This makes me so happy!
I really appreciate the suggestion! It is such a relief to have it gone.

My kid came home with a Halloween party invite. Since our school also had the same rules I texted a friend for the details when DD lost the card. Turns out they were invited - the kid must have just handed out the invites without the teacher knowing. Talk about awkward.
I just got asked for my email for an invite to a birthday party for another child in her class… the same day we were planning on doing DDs. She and another girl have the same exact birthday so I had reached out to her mom to coordinate because DD wants to invite all the girls in the class and I didn’t want to make things awkward. And of course it happened anyway haha. Luckily DD wanted it at our house and I was able to call the bounce house place and move the rental to tomorrow so we are good but man.

That's funny! I used to go at least a couple of times a year when I lived by one. It seems our town only has bougie places that cost a fortune or Baskin Robbins which is fine but no blizzards there.

My dd is a 5th grader in BSA - she joined cub scouts in September and crossed over into an older troop about 5 weeks ago. Her troop has somewhere between 15-20 girls and they are affiliated with a troop that has around 60 boys. They meet every Monday night and have an overnight campout every month.
In the last 5 weeks she's done almost everything to earn her first rank promotion, tie dyed stuff with the other girls, worked on the design of big wooden sign to display their ranks, gone on a weekend campout, did a flag ceremony with the sheriff's office and mayor, and was supposed to do volunteer work at the state park but it got snowed out.
I looked into girl scouts a little but all the troops I found only met once a month and said things like there were already 5 girls and they were only accepting one more. I didn't want my kid to be the only new kid in a small group. I also prefer how the bsa program has a mix of requirements for ranks and flexibility in a lot of merit badge choices. It seems like it gives more of an idea of what you are getting in to than gitls scouts. This is all based on internet research though. I don't have any experience with girl scouts and minimal with bsa, and I ised to be anti scouting in general. I'm letting my dd go all in with bsa because it is almost the only activity she has been interested in.

It's Boy Scouts. She was in a girl scout troop, but they tended toward really girly activities and that's not DD's interests at all. So an acquaintance recruited us to a boy scout troop because it seemed more aligned with DD's personality.
My takeaway from having been in both boy and girl scouts is that the experience varies widely based on troop leadership. I wouldn't make any decisions based on someone else's experience unless they were in the exact troop that you are looking to join.

DQ party time!
edit rather than making a new reply: my coworker sent me three spreadsheets with 3 different search results. Great! I should be able to combine these to make a comprehensive list of things. Only, many things came up in multiple searches. So, I have sorted by the unique term where I can see duplicates. And I’m manually deleted the duplicates. I suspect it would take me less time to load it into R and write 2 lines of code and spit out the output. But, of course, I got a new computer and R is not fully functional right now. And well… I’m working.

It's not the same as DQ, but don't forget about SoftStuff on 40 and Cindy's in Elkridge. Neither are as expensive as the Charmery, and they're locally owned.
So we used to have more DQs, but a few years ago you had to abide by specific corporate requirements to serve the full menu. So the 2 drive up type ones we had went out of business.
We had one open last summer and it's about 5 mins away. I would say we go about 1x a month. My kid is a little obsessed with blizzards for dinner.
