Huh. I don't think of deviled eggs as anything but delicious, but if I were ascribe a social standing to them, it would be as sort of déclassé. But I do want to know her reasoning. Has she responded? Maybe she realizes that it was kind of a dumb thing to say and has wisely declined to make herself look even more foolish by elaborating.

I have never been told that there is one "correct" brand, but I do know people that believe that china sould be made by a respected manufacturer of either English bone china or French Limoges. Sometimes china from other parts of Europe is considered acceptable, but china that is manufactured in the US, Japan, China, etc. is not okay.

Please note that I do not ascribe to this postition and am not advocating for it--merely confirming that there are plenty of china snobs in the world.
